>> a generation's ingenuity and intellect being diverted into toys and stupid shit
Which is exactly where our generation started, before we produced web browsers, Google, Facebook, etc. Fucking around with random shit is good practice for disrupting the real world later - I wish my kids did MORE of it.
Rooting a computer for the purpose of making it a proxy or a zombie to probe or attack other hosts has been a core goal of attackers for at least 20 years now. What makes this discovery special?
At a corporate level, the ability for IT admins to manage everything from AD is killer. For consumers, I suspect Microsoft will finally figure out how to extend XBox games to phones, build some killer ecosystem around major titles like Halo and Minecraft, and go to the bank.
Has anyone NOT on SlashDot NOT written a visitor/user/customer counter that started at a fictitious number and automatically incremented as time went on? (This is, after all, the culture of "fake it until you make it.")
>> Random marketing head says now THIS is last desktop OS
Um...Microsoft CEO Nadella said that Windows 10 was already going to be this great converged OS...back in 2014.

When all you know about handling exceptions is to Google for the next bit of code you should toss at them until they go away. (Citation: half of StackOverflow)

The actual AP materials still refer to "skills" throughout. I guess that means you can't just show up at the exam, pout, tell them your name is Marissa and expect to get your 4.

I think she's talking about a paper called "TA15-120A" ("Securing End-to-End Communications") that piles onto the bandwagon of turning off SSL 3.0 or something similar. But its always funny to hear a bureaucrat call paper "a product" as if it could fix anything itself.
Isn't this the plan? Let all the meth and coke kingpins out of jail because it's culturally insensitive that we locked them up? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/dec/18/obama-commutes-sentences-nearly-100-drug-offenders/
I was overseas near the Persian Gulf when the accord came together and the local newspapers were lauding Obama for helping their country water down the "shall" to "should." In other words the final version was considered a huge win for countries that want to continue to sell or use as much oil or natural gas as they can.
Short term, I guess its time for any remaining "programmers" to change their titles to "developers"...which is probably what's really driving the "growth."
>> software developers who may be more engaged with the business, analyzing needs and collaborating with multiple parties
In other words, don't ever let anyone figure out what exactly you do, and make sure you're attending more meetings than actually working. Mission accomplished!
>> humvees with a 50cal on the roof
To be fair, the 50cal is pretty quiet until it fires. :)
>> Why does the summary use the word "comprise" to mean "compose"?
Because the writer used phrases like "that comprise" instead of "in" to get his B- in his freshman composition class.

Hmmm...I wonder if some muckity-muck and their mistress got outed by some drone photography. The new ban ought to prevent that in the future.
>> Did you read the entire summary?
Hell no. This is SlashDot. I read the headline, glanced at the first line of the summary and then started to type my comment. :P
>> NASA Uncertain How To Proceed In Developing Deep Space Module
So...all NESA's noise about preparing for a manned Mars mission was just a joke then?

As someone who's lives in a world that's been without a global war for 70 years, I'm actually quite happy that nuclear weapons are still around.

More specifically, "Not in Former Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid's Backyard" - Obama still owes him big time for pinching out Obamacare.
