The CNN article's emphasis on voluntariness -- "whether schoolchildren can be allowed to recite the Pledge voluntarily" -- is grossly misleading, almost propagandistic.
Kind of like not letting people decide if an article is propagandistic on their own.... i mean make a comment as yourself because i don't think a lot of people understand that the news is cnn posting that, not your interpretation of the news.
At least where i'm from, a conservative utah school, i didn't see that as the case. Being labeled "anti-american" was far from any issue on our mind. I was editor of my newspaper, and no one really batted an eye when any of my articles about the patriot act being patently anti american (in the sense that our liberties were, and are, being taken away from us) and the anti conservitve viewpoint i shared was met with little more than "you think too much."
I really don't see a problem with someone reciting the pledge, but if you don't want to, then don't. Prayer in school isn't outlawed, its just not encouraged. I'm more interested to see if kids really care whether or not they recite the pledge or not, my guess is "i dont care either way" responses would prevail.
i have a hotmail account, and believe it or not, i get 0 spams a day. My email address is something like name number word and its not very guessable. I use it for family, and as you can see, dextr0us @ s p l . a t is my e-mail address for spam. It works quite well.
in tv, people use non competes a lot. They say you can't work in the same market area for a year, or two, which makes sense. Say i'm a company, and i build an image for an anchor, and then another station would reap the benifits.
BUT in the gaming industry i dont see how this applies. Someone fill me in!
Often times, a public place requires a permit to film. Not stock footage shots, for example the golden gate bridge in san fran, but say i own "super chow's restaurant" and some porno uses it for an establishing shot, i have a right not to have my restaurant in a porn. I have control over its rights.
dude, actually, each year has better gameplay, and conversley, worse gameplay. They always tweak gameplay mechanics. EXAMPLE Nfl 2k1 dreamcast kicked ass. nfl2k2 wasn't so great. SAME GAME, different balance.
Not to mention this guy is a douche. If you read his article, it all seems to make perfect sense, but then he gets in flame wars with his hate mailers. I mean if someone hate mails you, post an elegant response, as opposed to a conversation like this:
"MACS R0x0r S0x0rz!!!"
well, i'd have to disagree, because my benchmarks and analysis R0X)R S0X0rzzz !111!! LOL OMG!!
Unless you're a gaming mag, you're screwed. In my experience, as a tech reporter, we seldom have luck getting game companies to respond to requests, in any form other than "news releases."
Appropriation applies to any form of media, where someone can be identified. [on a side note, identificaiton means that they could be one of 15-20 people] In the news, we always have to be quite careful when releasing names and not photographs of people [confusion of a rapist is probably not a good thing].
I cant imagine fifa not having some sort of players association that they could liscence through. If they dont, they need to get their head in the game. Look at the NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, NHL, even nascar. They all have players associations that handle likeness issues.
just because someone sends a ceist and desist letter, doesnt that mean they have to take you to court? and if your work is clearly a parody, couldn't you just go to court and defend it yourself? get a media law text book, cite some sources, etc...
Do you think that the DMCA has had an effect on the media? Using 2600 as a prime example, don't you think that the media's free speech rights are restricted for fear of persecution? [media including websites]
wow, i'm so confused that the crap hardware, and terrible execution of the idea led to a lack in hardware sales? someone please explain!
WTF, really, micheal used to be good at articles, now it seems like slashdot is his own personal rant page.
i get to rant, but it doesnt get on the front page of slashdot.

In the beginning i thought it was pretty lame, but by the end (plus the SSHing) i thought it was awesome.
hey, how do you guys add games.slashdot headlines to the front page?

I thought that companies like verizion were common carriers, and that was exempt from subpoening [SP].
Steve ballmer is the obviously the best choice of person to talk to about their product.... not the
DEVELOPERS ! developers !
DEVELOPERS ! developers !
DEVELOPERS !
because steve ballmer loves this company, yeah.

i think this will probably net some cool celly-telly designs. i'd like a t-mobile sidekick, with the screen/speaker.
