PS1 had a huge launch compared to it's rivals of the time. Sega's bumped up and lackluster Saturn launch (although I really liked the Saturn at the time). Atari's promising but unfufilled Jaguar support (not enough Tempest 2000 and AvP quality titles). 3DO who?
A lot of game shops offered trade-ins for the system before launch. I traded a SNES and games for a PS1 and launch titles at EB.

It's funny that it took ten years since the invention of the first-person shooter for developers to start making first person games that use one's fists in a more realistic manner than Goldeneye's karate chop.

I hate having to call friends when I want to move my 32" Tube TV (because it weighs 120 pounds). Also, in small areas (like 1 bedroom apartments) Plasma / LCD are idea for size vs. space concerns.

When I started playing with Wi-Fi (circa 1999-2000), I read the manuals and went to online forums for help. That's how I learned everything I know now.
Anyone who spends hard-earned money on something and doesn't take the time to learn how to use it properly is just plain lazy in my opinion.

Actually, not that much underpowed. PS2 and DC are comparable in my mind.
Two things hurt the Dreamcast:
1. PlayStation 1 backward compatabilty on PS2
2. Sony announces PS2 when DC debuts to hurt Sega sales (and it worked).
Frankly, the launch games for Dreamcast were much better than the PS2 luanch titles.

Mini-discs are harder to pirate. That's the number one reason Nintendo is using them in the GC.
The adverse affect is that many people weren't buying GameCubes for a long while because games couldn't be easily stolen.
