  2. Re:Pfft. on The Why of Space Program Races · · Score: 1

So why wern't they in space 20 or 30 years ago then? I'm not, in no way, diminishing China's achievement here. It's miraculous how China has turned itself into an economic powerhouse that has the money to spare to be able to build a rocket and crew pod capable of doing this. My point is, is that private enterprise will take over from governments who have "better" things to spend their money on. If a private enterprise uses billions of dollars to get into orbit, then it's only the shareholders who have chosen to be a part of that company that take the profits or losses of that grand adventure. If a country does it, then there are always large elements of the citizen populous who do *not* see the value of millions of dollars / roubles / yuan being pumped into sending a select few into the great unknown. China will eventually face the same stagnation in it's populace where space flight no longer excites them , and even though it's not a democracy, I beleive that the people of China would rather see that money go into further benefits on it's own land, than burnt in fuel. I can fully see private enterprise catching up and overtaking any country in the world when it comes to space flight. Either for tourism, science, or cargo.

  3. Pfft. on The Why of Space Program Races · · Score: 4, Insightful

There is no real country based 'space race' anymore in the western world. Corporations are going to take over where the governments leave off. China is 50 years behind the times, and eventually it'll be the corporations there that take over the space flights, too.

It wasn't long after that that I was spending my 10 p's (quarters, for our american chums) at the kids room in the pub, playing this game. Still a favorite after all these years. Way ahead of its time gameplay wise, far more akin to something like tetris than the space invader/pacman/donkey kong clones that were so prevelant in 81/82.

Oh, undoubtedly. 'Slipping' was probably too strong a word to use. Theres stacks of vinyl in the house I'm that are taller than me. I think what I was tryin to convey was that as technology rolls along, and the CD-decks become more and more prevalent, that vinyl is going to lose SOME (not all) of its grip.

And those CDJ-1000's are fun, arn't they? :) The CDJ-800 is a good lower priced alternative. All the features of the 1000 except the memory points, I beleive.

  16. Re:Last??? on Inside One Of the Last Vinyl Record Manufacturers · · Score: 5, Informative
Well, I live with a couple of DJ's, and while vinyl still ha a huge hold on the dance music industry in particular, its fading due to the accessability, drop in price and general features of such decks as the Pioneer CDJ-1000. And it s been a while since I've seen a set decks without even a low end dual CD player - something such as the Numark CDN25. Makes CD-DJ'ing accessible for even the bedroom DJ's.

Vinyl still has a massive hold on the DJ industry, but it's slipping... Just my 0.02.

Like everyone else, I blame Berman and Braga, who have single handedly destroyed one of the best franchises in Scifi history. - And I'm not even a rabid star-Trek fan, I just like good TV and Good movies, and since B&B took over, its all been lacking.....
