    Gods, I hate Juno.
The first computer I set my parents up with back in '96 had it on there, as I didn't actually expect it to be used, and didn't see the point in getting them talked into getting a real ISP.
Then, my mother (Who IS a mensa genius, writes syndicated newspaper columns, books, paints, etc) got into the whole genealogy online thing. and mailing lists. etc.
Now I have to deal with crashes of a 100MB+ Juno repository of e-mail about once every 2 months; all efforts to switch her to something actually usable have been met with "but it's not as easy".
I finally settled on Win2k Pro and automated nightly ghosting; now when she calls I can just say "start>run>fixit.bat", works about 90% of the time.
The sad thing is that my dad has been using computers forever, but she won't let him touch it.

as a member of a gun loving culture, my viewpoint is perhaps a little more clear.

Families who have guns around, like for instance 95% of rural U.S. Families, aren't the ones who have kids shooting themselves; the kids KNOW what a real gun is, and only those which are mentally deficient are going to injure themselves.

Families who shouldn't have guns around, for instance Urban liberals who don't even tell their kids they have a gun hidden, let alone take the little kids out to the range to show them how loud & dangerous they are, shouldn't be surprised when little johnny stumbles across the "toy" hidden on the top shelf of the closet and blows his sisters brains out.

As for me, I think anyone who wants to give the state the sole option on protecting them and their families from violence should have that right; it improves the overall survival chances for the rest of us.
BTW, biometrics for weapons will not be a problem for criminals, just law abiding citizens; won't have a weapon that has it (except possibly to hack it).

As much as I really hate to say it, yes. I have a different personal interpretation of it, that the people described have an obligation and duty to keep and bear arms, while for people outside the range it's a personal choice thing, but thats an opinion and not specifically spelled out.
So it would be up to the states to say who within the non-militia group had a right to keep and bear arms.

  14. Re:This was... on Jon Stewart on CNN's Crossfire · · Score: 0, Offtopic

Ahem. Quoted from a answer to this statement on one of my sites.

"A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

But that's talking about the National Guard, right? Well, no, actually it's not.

    I refer you to U.S. Code, Title 10, Subtitle A, Part 1, Sec. 311

"The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard"

So the 2nd amendment would more accurately read "A well armed force consisting of all able-bodied civilians and female members of the national guard between ages 17 to 45 being necessary to the security of a free state...."

In the analysis, the problematic word is "regulated"; the meaning of the word in the late 1700's and the meaning of the word at present are different.

To anyone who has actually studied the situation from a neutral point of view instead of just listening to current commentary on the issue, it's really, really obvious.

The Large Blue company involved was so freaked out over it that we got all the RMA'd drives upgraded to non-mass market level units.
Then of course there is the FED, which used up until sometime this year 486DX-33 machines with 120mb drives & 9600 modems (mainly, there was some variation) to conduct the primary transactions of the largest economy in the world, without major problems (which is also about to end, with the upgrade to "modern systems").
Personally, i've had fail in the last 10 years:
a 340mb samsung IDE drive, lasted 3 years first.
3 v90 modems over a 3 year period, think it was the line voltage.
A IBM 8512 monitor, lasted 4 years (and it was 2nd hand). GREAT monitor, for the era.
My Kensington Expert Mouse. the circuit board developed a crack right after the warranty ended, and I can't justify spending 80% of the cost of a new one to get it repaired.
2 sound blaster 16 cards in 95. weird. most stable card ever, I got 2 bad ones.
some 30-pin simms. LOTS of power supplies and cooling fans.
Thats about it. all my hardware back to a 486DX3-120 is still doing something within it's capabilities.
