Personally I think that a patent describing how to do something and code describing how to do something is the same thing only in a different language and thus why the term software patent is an oxymoron. The fix for this is not legal, but when/if we ever get to a stage where a machine can understand what a patent says then the patent itself will be in infringement. ...continue to swim in the direction of how knowledge flows

So in the end evolution will go with empathy unless forced against the flow.

I notice sex makes one narcasssistic. That is, the ego just grows on it if not watched.

Watching the bombardment squewing of bad news everywhere... it's too much. I can't be moved by the palestine crying on the TV, the starving african; it's just too much.

Lowering of empathy weakens humanity as a group at every level - from a 1-1 disagreement failing to see the other side to the argument all the way up to world wars.

But hieghtening it leads to sucess. A empathetic, high EQ manager is much more successful than the results driven one. This translates to economics. A community with a church ends up richer than one without, even with the problems involved with that.

So, asking ourselves, where does this stuff come from?

In times past, and for the religious, some might say The Devil!
But that's been worked on now,

so it must be the greys I tell you, The Greys! ;-)

Anyhow. This is a reminder. Every argument has another side to it. Hitler, Jesus. Got to consider both sides.
Empathy makes a group stronger in the immediate and the strongest group wins. Anything else takes constant effort to derail this, like money in a war. But on the other hand is the idea that with people fighting against each other produces a stronger product.

Lines of enquiry similar to science. This is especially interesting to read about how Taoist thoughts started, like Traditional Chinese Medicene the lines of investigation blur with the `science` of that time.

Science being born out of religion, too.

Strong link between spirituality and science. It's when this goes from the individual to a group and becomes a religion the 2 really start knocking heads. Religion often involves emotion and that blurs our vision. Religions tell us that is the ego cheating us, for example.

In some ways religion and science... a blurred line between them I think.

Science can learn from religion and religion can learn from science.
Religion can inspire science. Religion can teach science about the viewer in every experiment. Science can teach religion about how happy feelings can distort a viewpoint too (ego again). The Quantum controversally seems to be starting to link both both worlds.

  11. seems to agree to me on Synthetic Genome Drives Bacterial Cell · · Score: 1

The word `God` has limited connotations in English. If it just means creator then the creator is god to this form of life.

If alien life plants us a long time ago then would that alien life be god?

What if that alien life views not only out reality but knows much more than we do, such as operating through other dimensions... and the only way to communicate this at the time was through genetic knowledge of a creator and the concept of `god` that the meaning of which has changed over time.

If that is so, then does the relationship between the bacteria and the scientist mirror religious legend? (allowing for variation in the passed down knowledge by averaging what all the religions say).

Remember, most disagreements are misunderstandings on what a word means. God means different things to different people.
Every time we witness disagreement, examine the meaning of the words involved and develop agreement on what the words mean.

    - Negative ions are more common in flowing water; is Bluehenge & Stonehenge built over a lay line (Druid name) -aquifer (hydrogeological term)
    - Charge can be measured with a multimeter so try this: measure voltage with a node in each hand before and after:
    1) a brisk swim in the sea
    2) 10mins of Tai Chi
    3) A mountain climb
    - large masses, like big stones concentrate that negative charge with increased density moving charge from the underlying water to the air

I like this way of addressing the problem because it's addressing it with a new angle of a new law, allowing right to repair.

Another way is through the weak antitrust, fair competition regulators.

Small garages need to band together to survive.

2600 ran a piece on this 5+ years ago over podcast with lots of info.

The OBD-II standard is very basic. It mostly covers safety measures and emissions. To get the really interesting stuff you have to move into manufacturers codes. They do obfuscate. I'm not sure if car makers have attacked reverse engineering attempts.

    Prices from the UK:
    - VAGCOM (VW) £250, reverse engineered, I think, but RossTech haven't been sued as far as I know
    - Do it all machines. Took a while to come out but here they are. Seen prices at £25,000 (~$55,000), and £7,500. The £25k one is updateable with OS onboard and everything.
    - ebay, generic cables and warezed software. ~£15-100. These sometimes break. Could be bad at handling odd voltages from damaged cars perhaps?

The only option out of all those to the person who actually owns the car is the ebay £15 option because you might not use it again.

This is a major thing to think about when buying your next car. BMW are particularly bad for it and it's been getting worse and worse with newer cars. Reverse engineering is always one step behind. My girlfriend isn't going to understand a thing like this. Nor is my dad. In fact, the vast majority won't `get it` until they get hit by a massive bill from the manufacturer garage, and even then they might not understand -just like OpenSource. Things change in time.

I always ask what a mechanic drives. They seem to go for the older cars. Vauxhall(opel) Vectras seem popular.

Ask yourself, can I see if my mechanic has lied to me?

I've had these experiences with car mechanics:

    - crashed shortly after a service including wheels, no investigation so can't be sure
    - welded over brake pedal (emergency failover in case of brake fluid loss removed)
    - replaced brake pads that didn't need replacing, showed me other pads worn down, which I knew weren't mine
    - put standard tyres on when I said I wanted something for Ski resorts, not informing me of snow tyres

Thank god, I now have 10 year old vehicle and a mechanic I trust.

So, get yourself informed, before it literally kills you!
