  1. Show them Facebook and set them up on How to Convince Non-IT Friends that Privacy Matters? · · Score: 1

*** Privacy is there for the imperfections of others ***

Idiots who think there are no (racists, homophobes, jealous girlfriends, criminals, dodgy companies) out there don't care about privacy.

People who think they are perfectly going with the flow think they have `nothing to hide`.

But these people are ignorant to the world.

Until you've been on the end something resulting from a privacy invasion you don't really feel it with all your soul.

For me Facebook has been the great teacher in this.

So the best advice I can give is:

tell them to add people from:
work, social life, gay lovers, all previous girlfriends, your mother, weird old school friends
all into one facebook account and see what happens.

    I have experimented with Nootropil.

It worked, in a subtle way. And bear in mind the down is bigger than the up, useful for getting out of a dopey mood. Could be a lifesaver if you had to perform. However, you should be able to make yourself alert without drugs.

    However:

    - it doesn't fix confidence, just the ability to think quick if you want it
    - you can still feel sleepy or lazy. If at a party it just prevents that mind freeze
    - the next day I felt as dopey as I felt alert before; i.e. the low is a little greater than the high so you have to be prepared for this
    - it creates dependency. You notice the times of not being on it more, obviously, the drugs don't work

I don't hate Microsoft as much. Like a tiger that kills it's prey they are just doing thier job in a focused way. Unfortunately this way highlights so many problems in life.

Non geeks don't understand why we hate Microsoft because they don't relise it when they are encountering it. They don't recognise the BSOD on thier ATM. They don't recognise the intregrity of a NT kernel flying a plane. They don't care whether the reciepe for their software is secretive - because they are ignorant.

If you don't use a computer it doesn't fly in your face that Microsoft are a pain in the butt. But if yoy're a programmer and you want to actually do something that uses the Microsoft API like making programs run on Linux... you're screwed. This is why the enlightened run with fear whenever Microsoft moves in on a new sector. Microsoft on your mobile phone? By this anyone using a phone you could then have to pay a fee to Microsoft for every 3rd party program on the phone. And like moving into a house you get dependant on this.

Microsoft is the landlord of computers. Microsoft sets the ground rent.

Microsoft leverages weaknesses in our world such as ignorance and capitalism through patents and agreements to it's advantage and our constant disadvantage. In doing so it reminds us in our daily encounters of the hopelessness of life by giving the impression that a balance of reward between consumer and maker by interlectual property (doesn't exist by the way) will never be fair. Since this underpins everything we do this leads to dispair.

This is why we hate Microsoft.

Maths: "For example if you calculate 73 - 6..."

Let's actually talk this through what's going on. I'm not very good at this. At all. Some people seem to do it easily and I have no idea why. There's something they do that I'm missing. In fact, most people can do this quicker than me.

What I do in my head (probably the wrong way, an insight in how to do it wrong):

    1) I instinctively remember that half of 6 is 3 so that takes it down to 70 by just taking off the 3.

    2) Then I take off 1 by 1 until I get to 67. I then remember that in a relationship of 10, 7 is related to 3. In my head things are based around 10's.

^ now you see this (probably?) is a silly way to do it. I suspect other people have remembered tricks to do this and that's why they're quicker than me. It's just that I've never seen it discussed and I wasn't taught it - I just remember counting pencils one by one one day, and then doing long division the next (which I still can't do).
