Blaming all the problems of the world on one segment of the population based on race, gender, sexual orientation, culture, etc, is a teltale sign of a simple and weak mind. Such minds simply cannot comprehend the complexity of the world we live in. They want the world to be simple enough to understand it, so they are hell-bent on making it simple.

But it's not. OK ? It's not. The world is what it is, not what you want it to be.

Would-be tyrants love simpletons though. Simpletons are easily scared by things that a simple mind can identify immediately: Race, religion, culture, etc.

And scared people are easy to control, because they will believe anything that will aleviate their fears.

This is the result of entire generations of people never having known anything but life in a civilized world. They've never had to wake up to the sound of bombardement sirens in the middle of the night, they've never had strangers with governement badges bust down their door and take one of their loved ones away, never to be seen again. They've never had to call the police for an emergency, just to have police ask for bribes before they do anything, if they do anything, except maybe gang-rape their daughter in the next room.

They naively and stupidly think that the only life they've ever known is the normal state of human society, while its true normal state is police state, tyranny, civil war, fear, suffering and bloodshed.

When you ask them "How do you feel about the fact that the real-life equivalent of Lex Luthor is now your president, that he has the nuclear codes, and that you put him in the oval office, knowingly, and on purpose", their reply is either "meh" or "yeah, but it pisses off libruls, lol !"

It's apathy alright. Apathy of someone who's never had to care. Until now.

Please point out to me where I said that I don't want the governement to have unbreakable encryption.

The governement will have unbreakable encryption. It is their duty, if only for national security reasons. But if the governement has it, then criminals and terrorists will also have it, because technologies never remain secret. Therefore, all the laws and regulations governements around the world are trying to pass to force tech companies to include a backdoor in their encrypted communication apps will be useless. They are already useless.

Please feel free to ask if you need me to dumb it down even further.

  8. Doesn't matter. It will be stolen, on Google Pledges To Hold Off On Selling Facial Recognition Technology (engadget.com) · · Score: 2

A technology only has to exist. Then it's just a matter of time before those who want it get their hands on it.

Same with encryption and encryption backdoors. If a backdoor is implemented, even if only for governement and law enforcement use, the backdoor will be cracked and used by criminals. If governement admits this and demands an uncrackable encryption without backdoor just for itself, again criminals and terrorists will get their hands on it and use it for themselves, making the backdoor useless to law enforcement.

In the end, only governements and criminals will have unbreakable encryption, and the backdoored encryption will be used only by ordinary honest citizens, to be spied on by their governement and victimized by criminals.

Boy, you guys seem to really, really hate taxes, don't you ? In fact, you're beginning to sound like a broken record.

But still, I'll try to give an answer to your question:

Why not convince folks to switch to greener tech because it's *better*, rather than trying to ram it down their throats as a tax? The latter has a legacy of 40+ years of failure and division.

Because the former has a legacy of tens of thousands of years of failure and division. Special interest groups (particularly the filthy rich ones, like the oil industry) will always make sure that fails. Always.

But I'll agree with you on one thing though: We really should try something new.
