The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency performed the first successful ignition of a scramjet engine during a ground-based test in September 2001. This involved using a gun to fire the engine to a speed above Mach 5.
Yes, I have felt a great disturbance in the Source, as if millions of slashdotters cried out in terror and suddenlyed silenced... I feel something terrible has happened.:-P
I have to correct you here; there isn't an outward force acting on the ball. There's a force toward the center of rotation and one tangential to the motion of the ball. This gives the illusion that there is a force acting on the ball away from the center of rotation. For example, if the string were to break, then the ball would continue to move along a straight line, ignoring all other forces, rather then away from the center. Anyway, I think the space elevator is a great idea for an anternate way in to low Earth orbit
From what I understand about hydrogen peroxide, (my chemistry is rusty) it's not possible to have a 100% solution of it; the oxygen radical is too reactive. But it's still some really strong shit, in any case.

Slight correction... that's miles per minute warp 18 would equal (200,880,000 miles/min) * 60 min = 12,052,800,000 mph. Not that it matter tho:-P
I would tend to agree with you that it seems that the people with the most money win, but where's the proof? I've seen so many people blame the corruption of money, but I see no proof.

I don't see why NASA doesn't make a Soyuz-style capsule and attach it to a Saturn 5-style rocket. That would seem to be the best of both worlds, imo.
Well, if this kid has already given his money to the RIAA, then they have already been paid off whether you donate money or not

Well, actually the animated Ghost In The Shell is based on the manga by Masamune Shirow, or at least that's what it says on the DVD cover :-P
