I don't know why you all think I am supporting SCO, I'm just outlining how they could conceivably proove the existence of code in a pre-linux timeframe. Not that I think they CAN or WILL do this.
Well if it were altered it would generate a modified binary right? And the binaries were publicly available back in the day. So if the CRC matches, it is MOST LIKELY unmodified code.
I figure they just take a previous version (the first to contain the code) and demonstrate that it compiles into the old version x binary. Then they essentially have proof that it was in the code at that time.
First of all, there is no such thing as a mathematically lossless MP3. I assume this was just a typo on your part though...
The reason I use MP3 (with --alt-preset standard) over something lossless like FLAC is because they work on my nomad jukebox, sound identical to the source 99% of the time, and are on average 1/4 the size of the FLACs.
Also, AAC is going to be used for things like digital radio, internet radio, streaming etc. You just can't do that with lossless due to bandwidth restrictions.
Honestly - I know lossless has a nice ring to it, but try comparing a LAME --alt-preset standard MP3 to the source WAVE any day (do it blindly though, otherwise its the placebo effect talking) and see i0012u can compare them. You won't be able to.
Technically IP has the checksum, regardless of whether it's TCP, UDP, ICMP etc. What he meant was that UDP does not guarantee delivery. IP in general does not guarantee that, It's only TCP at the higher level that does.
How about this then... It is illegal to use it for this purpose, but it is also morally acceptable. Do not confuse legality with morality. God knows the courts haven't.
as an added bonus, the slightly faster orbit would also be closer to the sun, and Canada would then be just about perfect (what with the warmer weather and all).
Sun: There was a thing with the Sparc3s i believe where you had to download a microcode update that turned off certain FP functions (which were busted), resulting in a speed hit.
Doom3 will not use direct3D, but it does use other components of DirectX. Of course you don't need a DX9 3D card to drive those, but still, Doom3 WILL use parts of DirectX (unless you are running on Linux).
Haha, that was I who posted that! I was about to do it again actually in this thread... Everyone please read it! Might make you think twice about supporting them in the future. Granted I think this Harvey fellow is a moron with no real access to the facts, he is still a company representative.

I'd just like to add to that...
XFS, while I love it for its performance, journals metadata only. So files won't be lost, but their contents may be. ReiserFS is very similar. EXT3, while much clunkier, does data journaling as well. For these reasons I use XFS on/tmp and/home/public (FTP/SMB area) partitions, and EXT3 on more critical ones.
The creative nomad jukebox 3 can. you need an external mic though. this is why i bought one of those instead of an ipod, even though the ipods are admittedly sexier.
you CAN get surround from two speakers, using things like Qsound. The problem is, you need to be in the sweet spot to hear the effect, which is why its not used much. Multi-speaker setups of course don't have this problem.
Wearing headphones of course, everyone is in the sweet spot. So it is very doable.
You are if that girl ain't your wife! :)

And Gentoo, and (with a few changes) Linux from Scratch.

Anyone else notice all the Velvet Underground references in Gibson's work?
Neuromancer's "Miss Linda Lee" is in the song "Cool It Down"
The book "All Tomorrow's Parties" appears to be named after a VU song as well.
There are others as well, but I can't recall of the top of my head.
oh come on, have you played them both? sure it's inspired by tribes, but Tribes is hardly a persistent online world.
PlanetSide is quite awsome. I'm not sure of its lasting power, exactly, but man... i've been playing it nonstop all week.
And it is very original.

real soon now = a couple days ago.
You are correct. They are called "Women".

Just don't confuse legality with morality, and you'll be able to sleep at night just fine.
*clap clap clap*
impressive. very impressive. The "Peace be to god" bit was a bit over the top though, otherwise... nice troll!

It's because of the enviro-wackos that the logging companies do so in the first place.
ah, but if you do it through 443 they'll think its just https, cause they are both connection'd and ssl encrypted protocols.
I believe it was:
"Linux is for people who hate Windows, BSD is for people who love UNIX"
I personally use Linux, however.
