I bought one of those 2GB video watches. They are a bit bulky, but quite cool/nerdworthy if you don't mind recharging the battery after about 8 hours of it just boringly displaying the time.
On it I have my limited MP3 collection and the Black Knight scene from the Holy Grail.
You wouldn't believe how many chicks find this sexy!
These things are great as backup if you have an additional device (like a camera) that uses SD cards. Here's another one. Are there other makers of these thumb drive-sized USB adapter/readers?
Even cooler would be a micro-SD card inside an SD adapter inside a thumb drive reader - matryoshka-ish!
"Colossus: We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom, freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for human pride as to be dominated by others of your species."
America does not have a disproportionate percentage of stupids, it's just that every possible stupid thing done by an American gets videotaped and broadcast to the rest of the world.
Don't ask me to explain reality TV or professional wrestling though.
Sometimes shit happens, and that is called an unavoidable accident. How often do the events you mention actually occur?
Now that I'm typing this, I realize that you're right. It's pointless to advocate or force better driver training since it'll never happen as long as technology provides a promised, no-effort solution.
It's kind of like using unpatched Windows as an operating system: "Sure, my machine got pwned, but it's not my fault, it's Microsoft's!"
(Which incidentally leads me back to the reason why MS is so popular for some businesses: If eff-ups happen, it's not our fault, the computer made me do it!. It's blame deflection/transferral.)
If you depend on the government for all of your safety, then the rest of your rights are meaningless.
Well said. I'd rather count on anonymous Joe to do "what's right" in extreme circumstances rather than rely on the cops. Some people seem to be afraid of gun-ownership, but this fear usually reflects back to those who are just in (or want to promote, for various political reasons) a state of fear as a matter of course.
If the next bioengineering genius is French I want to make it very attractive and easy for him to immigrate to the U.S. rather than stay in France.
With the way the US is going, it wouldn't surprise me that people would not want to move there. I don't travel much, but hopping to or through the "land of the free" is a major consideration.
We still need to provide working class jobs, because we will always have a working class
The "service" economy as is exampled by software support is one way where workers have no control over the quality of the job they do. Those jobs exist at the whim of some well-intentioned executive and can be cut/exported at the stroke of a pen.
Joe Smith moving from an assembly line job where he has at least some control over the output is not going to enjoy software-related work.

A team like the Cubs that haven't won a World Series since before the first World War would be nothing without a VERY sympathetic fanbase.
I wouldn't know much about that phenomenon, I used to live in Montreal.
Why didn't the Cubs just float a few dozen large balloons with obstruction devices hanging from them during games?
Does your username reflect having more than usual holes in your head? If so, did it hurt?
Sorry!

That might work unless a major profit centre for spamming is actually selling email addresses to gullible wannabe spammers/"businesses".
Uhh... wait a sec...
No, no more secs, please figure out the ramifications of your words *before* you post.
Why no, I'm not British, why do you ask?
I'm getting of your lawn now.
Please mod up Ralph's comment.
And the humans, having been removed from the decision loop, aren't in a position to stop it.

"Nearly" would seem to be the key word here. Why didn't it happen?

I've got one mod point left (3 days late), too bad I couldn't mod this to Hilarious!

D'oh.
Do the "bad guys" have to go through similar safety training, background checks and vetting?

If you answered yes to all three, congratulations - you're a fully-paid-up brainwashed member of our generation.
Let me guess - if we don't stop Global Warming RIGHT NOW, we're all going to hell in a handbasket.

Psychologically-speaking, unique, not-recently-smelled odours can also trigger memories...oh, wait. It was just a fart, false alarm.
Upon closer inspection, Oh, crap!
