Yes, exactly. I want a totaltarian state because I mention crowd control and the study of the dynamics of large groups of people.
I stand humbled in the shadow of your obvious intellect and I never thought about that before.
When any social issues (like maybe when people talk not online) come to the forefront that requires critical thinking are you the person that stands in the corner mumbling to himself?
Then again, maybe I'm being too harsh on you and should be nicer. Get out much? Ever actually see how a riot happens? Maybe there's a Sims game plugin idea here. You're welcome to work on it in your parent's basement, just make sure I'm the Evil Bad Guy, OK?
You can't even peacefully wear a "No Bush" T-Shirt to a political rally now adays without being arrested for trespassing.
It is all about crowd control. And when I say "crowd control", I mean weeding out the nutcase that can incite a riot in a group of thousands of people just by getting violent. If he has his politically-naive-but-festering buddies with him, true havoc can be QED. All it takes is for one asshole to break a window (followed by buddies similarly and simultaneously creating chaos) to create mass hysteria.
Aside from sniping at the RNC, what was your point? Weren't the same controls in place at the DNC?
All agents of chaos know that it takes very little to instigate something newsworthy and security people are understandably extra-cautious since [you know when].
Shit, I thought that "crowd behaviour dynamics" were fairly well understood by the Slashdot crowd. Maybe a course in Sociology would help.
hassle from those nasty ignorant c**ts on the border
You insensitive clod, I am offended by your reference to our female government employees as "clits". Our border guards are often quite attractive. Some of them are even Quebec girls (ex-strippers). Mmmmm, French strippers with guns...
The reality is that jobs that involve computers and software essentially eventually make themselves obsolete. You haven't figured that out yet?
The greatest thing ever invented (on the shoulders of other technologies) was the internet. Now it's here, it only takes fine-tuning, not hordes of rampaging geeks building the infrastructure.
The end result of all this will be a Sim-esque big red button that is labelled "Run Economy".
I used learning AutoCAD as an excuse to myself to justify the expense, so I guess it had to have one. Never did learn ACAD until much later, but I had all the Doom levels memorized!
I'm still doing useless stuff with computers [Maxwell Smart="on"] and loving it.
-a 486DX66 with DOS (6.0?) for Doom + Windows 3.1
-a 15" 1024x768 noname monitor (that actually lasted a long time)
-8MB RAM for ACAD
-2MB video card
-2X CD-ROM
-40MB hard disk
-TOL Soundblaster card
Imagine all the job losses once this happens. I won't miss the greedy execs, lawyers or hype manufacturers one bit but the industry in its current state does employ a lot of people.
Yay, more burger flipper job competition (as if it wasn't already bad enough).
When will this cliche end? Porn is *not* the reason for all technology, it just happens that VCRs and computers enabled people to view it in the privacy of their own homes instead of wearing trenchcoats to seedy theatres with sticky floors.
First, this is NOT meant as a flame at all. I would just like to know. Who here actually backs up their DVD's or CD's?
I've never been a downloader of music (free or paid - I'm old enough to eschew anything but vinyl), but the attitude here seems to be that music should not be pimped. I *have* had to repurchase copies that have gotten damaged, however.
The ubiquitous "air-car" could only work if there were strict control over both the air-car and the pathways it travels combined with fail-safe recovery techniques in the event of mechanical failure.
As the father of a 13 year-old boy, this topic is growing in importance to me.
Aside from cuddling babies and the experience of boobies, there's nothing more satifying than seeing a kid's eyes light up with that "holy crap! I never thought of that before!" enlightenment.
I'm guessing that you are either: A) some college student who understands the universe from within a safe zone or B) Some wannabe political plant. Don't feel too bad about it, people are scammed every day.
I would say everything changed with the technology push surrounding WWII...after that, we became advanced to the point where we simply needed more time to learn everything that's necessary to make one's way in the modern world.
The US is the cultural leader for the concept of mass consumption to sustain an economy, right or wrong.
My opinion is that "college education" has become de rigeur for most higher-paying jobs. Unfortunately, this attitude seems to create an elite group who are only really interested in their own financial success and some variation of "inclusionism" that poisons society on the whole.
Also, IMO, the widespread use of computers has isolated and eliminated the "old guard".

So nobody else will be sitting in my chair (turnover) until you pry my sweaty, greasy ass off of it.
Thanks for the visual. Who would want it after that anyway?
I can code for a few hours, take a break and play video games, come back to coding for a few more hours, and then be ready to enjoy the evening
Same here, except at my age, replace "take a break and play video games" with "take frequent naps".

Plus they have useful nose-picker tools. oh, wait, that'sme!

Take the occasional horizontal nap as a refresher. That's where you're a Viking!

Besides, if you believe that size doesn't matter on the Internet, you clearly haven't been getting the same kind of email I've been getting.
As a jaded old fart, it takes a lot to make me LOL. That comment was hilarious. Thanks.
Is that the show with the Muppets?
You are of course aware of the fact that most jobs are "busywork" and depend largely on buddy networks and who you know.
Assuming that mass media (and PBS) considers itself to be "responsible". there should be no problem in advising the average idiot.
Then again, where's the profit in that?
Bingo! Let's slam the bastards.
I'm guessing that you are either: A) some college student who understands the universe from within a safe zone or B) Some wannabe political plant. Don't feel too bad about it, people are scammed every day.
Thnks for the reply.

The English language.
What is the etimology of "gry"?
It's just internet cleaning tine, you all are probably familiar with it.
In France, the criminalization of hate speech and hate-related objects makes them dangerously attractive.
Very well said. It's odd that sociology is not a mandatory subject in school, even for little kids.
