Another way to get around realplayers problems in windows is Tara's real audio winamp plugin. You still need realplayer around of course, but at least you never have to start it up again.
Browsing through the bugreport comments, I got a good laugh from the story of a guy who contacted some hotmail people about the blocking. I especially loved all the people commenting on how frustrating it must be, and then following that up with the most hair pulling answers imaginable. My hats off to this guy for persevering as long as he did.

I've contacted them and these are the replies I've had:
I am Roxanne and I am replying to your inquiry regarding the error message you received.
I understand how important it is for you to access and use your account without difficulty.
Please be advised to upgrade your browser to the latest version.
Download the latest version of Netscape Navigator at:
http://www.netscape.com/download/ If you have continued problems, please reply to this e-mail message with a detailed description. Let me know exactly what you did and where the process fails and include the exact wording of any error messages.
So I tell them I am using the 'latest version' so then:
This is Margarita and I am writing to you in response to your problem changing your password. I understand your frustration because you are receiving an error message when attempting to do so.
May I suggest that you use another PC when trying to change your password. In this way, we would be able to isolate the problem. It is possible that the error that you are encountering is caused by your system's configuration.
Please send us another email message if in case the same problem persists.
If you should have further questions, please feel free to email me and I would be glad to help you again. Thank you for your patience, cooperation and continued support.
So I tell them I've tried that and it still doesn't work. So then they reply:
This is Bryan and I've checked the account in question and it appears to be functioning properly. Hotmail is currently up and running on its maximum speed. We are not experiencing any technical problem as of this period. We suggest that you contact the Technical Support of Netscape Navigator regarding this matter. They can give you a much comprehensive help on your inquiry.
So I tell them that it's got nothing to do with Netscape navigator, and I'm not even using Netscape anyway, I'm using Mozilla. So then:
This is Gina and I am writing in response to your problem with using your Hotmail account. I understand your frustration regarding the matter.
I believe your problem is due to your browser settings and configurations. Please contact the support group of the browser you are using so that they may address the problem immediately.
So here I am contacting the 'support group' . But as we all very well know, it's them, not Mozilla...
I ofcourse presume that they removed the nag-like GPL screens of compiled apps generated from Kylix 1 in ver2?
Not in 2 at least. I had to make a program that some windows using friends could make use of as well, and thought the open kylix would be a great start. Knowing when a public release was made that the Linux version would look worse than the windows version, and have a nag screen was motivation enough to move what I had over to a nicely kde/gnome skinned java program instead. The last straw was when another friend came over and joked that my kylix aplication looked like a windows 3.1 shareware program.
Though I'm sure borland is crying over the loss of my $0.
Microsoft agrees to this, and in exchange Slashdot has to post a "Linux is dead" article every week along with the visual studio ads? Suddenly it all makes sense!
It's depressing, but the second you suggested people use the operating system that best meets their needs I knew you were going to be labled elitist. I compleatly agree with what you're saying though. I really don't care what microsoft does at this point. I tried what's out there, and right now Linux meets my needs far more than any of the others.
If I wanted a clone of windows, I'd take the more effecient route of simply using windows. I don't understand why people who sit around thinking about another operating system all the time they're using the one they have installed don't simply admit it's not the best choice for them and move on. I mean seriously, a lot of people have quite enjoyed their experiences with both OS X and windowsXP. Neither are going to eat someones soul, or cause you to be snubbed by the public. Using an operating system just to be "cool" on the other hand, even if another would meet their needs better is somewhat sad.
Instead, your application should adopt the look&feel of the target platform you're using. Do you really want an ugly GTK-looking thing on Mac OS X?
That's why they should be using skinlf, if they want a pretty
OS X'ish gui. Aparently it can even automaticaly load current themes being used in Linux. I havn't tried it yet, but pretty cool if it works as advertised.
It's quite depressing. I keep telling myself "good modules will come, good modules will come"
It'll take awhile, but I'm sure they will. I was somewhat active in the Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures comunity, a computer AD&D game which allowed you to make your own modules. It took awhile, but eventually there was a huge amount of very high quality material available. I'm confident the same will happen with neverwinter given enough time.
Who knows, by the time the Linux client is released there could be a lot already.
I wish I could just pick the shows. I only reguarly watch a handfull of series, and I'd gladly pay a weekly fee to, say have them sent to my home on a dvd or legally download them if it meant no comercials. Not to mention it'd be nice knowing my money was being used as a vote to keep the show in production, instead of loving a show popular among geeks but not the general public and knowing it'd be canceled thanks to the current tracking system.
What I'd like to see are comercials that actually gave me a good reason to buy their product over their competitors. Instead you get car comercials with people jumping around, clothing comercials you can't tell are clothing comercials, and more teens showing how cool it is to use this and this. If your rice cooker or whatever is better, tell me how so. And if it isn't, I'm not going to rush out and buy it.
The young adult viewers whom advertisers are most interested in may be among the most likely to accept the idea of watching commercials and shows simultaneously, said Lichter of the Center for Media and Public Affairs. After all, he said, they are comfortable with a multi-tasking TV screen a la CNN's Headline News
Because there's nothing, nothing todays youth gets off on more than watching that CNN, to the Xtreme even!
I've never understood this attitude. It's like saying "All books are just Harlequin Romances. Toss away your books -- You'll like the results".
That attitude has always bugged me as well. I think in the end it's just people being too lazy to keep informed about what they might enjoy. The majority of any medium is going to be crap. Ignoring the entirity of tv simply means depriving oneself of one of the sources for the few shreds of intelligent entertainment still out there.
I wonder if there'll be a similar effect among users of modafinil
It'd sure be nice. I used modafinil a lot back when I was in school, and it was so much smoother than drinking coffee. No big high or low, just a banishing of tiredness and a minor feeling of alertness. Combine that with reducing risk of Alzheimers and you'd get one heck of a combo.
limiting the 5% of our users who used these programs
Wait, five percent? Out of curiosity, when did this happen to get that low a score? Things might be a little different in my location since it's a college town, but I've never met any cable modem user who didn't use some kind of p2p software occasionally. I would have thought it wouldn't even have been close to single digit percents.
On another forum someone made a good point about finding edutainment for his preschool age children. I think it's both the greatest strength and weakness that Linux will always be strongest in the areas of interest to we developers. I know the idea of building the next big scrabble game appeals far less to me than the next big dungeon crawl.
My solution, get Tux his own sing along coding cd. From what I've seen of friends with kids, their offspring will have listened to the thing so many times the parents will be singing "a is for array", hacking the kernel, and writing scrabble games before we know it.
I use MS because it allows me to create solutions quickly and easily.
Which is equally certain with Linux for someone who's trained themselves to use it, like you've obviously learned to efficiently use windows. I don't think he was implying windows users were some kind of illiterate lower class citizen of the computing world. Rather I think he was just complaining about the number of people who forget that they had to learn to use windows when they first were introduced to it, and then when they try Linux imediatly start complaining instead of just sitting down with a book, or using google until they get equivalent Linux experience to what they'd learned with windows. Instead you find a large number of people who install Linux, and when they find their gamepad isn't automatically detected start screaming about how much linux "sux". Nevermind the fact that it wouldn't happen in windows either, on windows they know to just flip in the driver cd which came with the pad. A common problem like that is easy to find the answer to with google, with a google search through newsgroups it becomes even easier, but instead a very surprising amount of people either give up or start screaming in anger.
Another way to get around realplayers problems in windows is Tara's real audio winamp plugin. You still need realplayer around of course, but at least you never have to start it up again.
Don't worry everyone. I spent most of my youth in the local arcade preparing for just such an event!

I've never used C++ builder 6, but borland's C++ builder page says it uses CLX.
it's an IDE.. the power of CodeInsight, code templates, etc can't easily be demonstrated through a screenshot.
What's odd is the one feature I loved most about kylix, the familier gui building tools isn't shown.
I ofcourse presume that they removed the nag-like GPL screens of compiled apps generated from Kylix 1 in ver2?

Too bad it still has the worst name ever.
I think you're seriously shorting the honor of Theora. I actually kind of liked the name ogg vorbis, but theora...theora!
and I'm sure they would be worried about a mad corpse
Only if they had sold the space to capcom.
Is BeOS still alive? Any positive futures for them?
BeOS might be dead, but at least there's the good chance of hope from OpenBeOS.
Instead, your application should adopt the look&feel of the target platform you're using. Do you really want an ugly GTK-looking thing on Mac OS X?

Given the level of intelligence displayed recently in the television industry, it wouldn't surprise me.

messy command line mucking about that is necessary for multimedia under Linux.
Eh, I just click an icon in KDE3 to start mplayer.
But was there any real reason to think support of 2.0 would suddenly be drying up?
