Bill Gates in in despair as the EU fine him a zillion dollars. How will he cope with only $50 billion to keep him going?
It was better than the alternative, though. The court wanted to divide Microsoft in two. One half to run the software business, and the other half to calculate Bill's wages.
How can we help? Perhaps if the few people with Internet access and the necessary savvy work hard at sharing movies on the net, this could generate increased sales. Effectively through "free advertising".
If we all work hard enough this effect might be strong enough to improve the Movie Industry's fortunes. Sort of like how raido stations introduce people to new music? It's worth a try.

You might consider an 'Infinite Storage' optical jukebox. We ran one for awhile back for user files, but it wasn't fast enough with small files and it was replaced by SAN.
Perhaps with your large files it'd perform better.
Internet Explorer, Windows explorer and the Windows Desktop all seemed to be linked. I've often had a crash in one or the other necessitate restarting 'explorer.exe' from task manager. What gives?
Firefox is now running on my home PC, but at work I have to support thousands of installations of IExplorer.:(
Private Eye had an article recently pointing out 7,000 UK government security ID cards have gone missing from Westminster and other government buildings in the last year alone.
One way to reduce this ratio would be to send more legitimate email. C'mon, get sendin'!
Two further points. 1) Lots of comments are talking about how much spam they _receive_, this article was talking abut how much spam is _sent_. Naturally since spam is sent in huge numbers from few originators but most people don't send any spam, there's a greater ratio of spam received per user than sent.
2) Many comments say spam is easy to block, but then talk about blocking spam to only a small population or just a few accounts. The genuine email expected by one company that e.g. supplies bathroom fittings will be easier to avoid blocking than a huge diverse population e.g. a University, where people work in many different areas on lots of different projects.
When spam blocking, avoiding false positives (blocking genuine email) is key.:)
We have the same thing where I work. A few weeks ago, 7 days of spam quarantined in our Ironmail device would add up to 25,000-35,000 emails.
These days we have more than 70,000 total quarantined, and more than 50,000 of those emails are worms/viruses. I've been referring to this as 'the email virus storm' and it's been going for 2 or 3 weeks already.

Woods: Hey, you're Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, aren't you? I mean, you're

ask you, is it true you once worked 96 hours straight?
Apu: Oh yes, it was horrible I tell you. By the end I thought I was a
hummingbird of some kind. Woods: Oh yeah, you know, I studied your old security tapes.
[On tape, Apu imitates a hummingbird, flying back and forth
across the screen and emitting a high-pitched humming noise]
Apu: In a few minutes, I tried to drink nectar out of Sanjay's head.
Today my 2 kittens had to go to the vet for 'the snip'. There's always a tiny chance the anaesthetic would cause a bad reaction.
The vet just called me on my mobile to say they've both woken up and they're fine. I immediately rang my parents to let them know the good news, and emailed the breeder I got them from.
So that's 4 people who are no longer stressed out wondering how the operation went. Plus I don't have to carry them home in this freezing weather, I have a nice warm car. Yay for technology!
If his data wasn't backed up, presumably it doesn't matter if it's lost. If it mattered if his data was lost, he should have backed up his data.
Many people have to lose some valuable data to really learn that you need to backup. You can go to the shop and buy a new PC tomorrow morning and it only costs money. Data can be unique and irreplacable.
When you ask the ATM for 100GBP, it counts out 5 x 20GBP notes. If you ignore the notes, eventually they get sucked back into the machine.
Now on older ATMs, the notes were not counted when the machine sucked them back in. There was just an optical device to watch for when the notes were or weren't taken. So you could remove 4 banknotes, leave 1 note in the ATM, and your account wouldn't be debited any money at all.
That scan no longer works as modern ATMs do now count notes when they're retrieved by the machine. Ah, well:-)

These feel like you're wearing only socks, and walking everywhere on a thick carpet.
My favourite are the Ankle Boots with crepe soles. The soles wear out after about a year. After that, you can get them resoled for less than the price of a new pair. There's no other way to make comfortable shoes except having a soft sole that therefore wears out.
Plus, they go through metal detectors with no problems.:-)

My dad told me that back in the day the radio news would sometimes go like this.
"There has been no news today. So instead, here is some light music."

Do you have any photos showing the stuff installed on an ATM machine?
MORPHEUS: Why not? [an item] for every man, woman, and child in Zion. That sounds exactly like the thinking of a machine to me.
