I took it to mean that they would create their own "slang". Kinda like the difference between Austalian english and American.
I could be wrong tho. I just see creating your own language on the fly as being a litle overly complex for AI in a computer game. Not to mention rather pointless.
No one understands that anymore. I program in 6 languages, but I'm also a kickboxer and was state champ in wrestling in high school. Not to mention i still hold all of the lifting records (365 pound bench press junior year).
I grew up with a guy named Jerry Bohlander who was at one point UFC champion, as in Ultimate Fighting Championship. He got beat by Tito Ortiz tho. You wouldn't realize it looking at him, or talking to him, but he's a computer geek as well.
i'm so tire of this rumor. No one has found proof, no one can come up with a reason other than "I'm to cheap to actually buy anything so give it to me free on the crappiest hardware I can find at CompUSA".
slashdot needs to get off this, it's turning into another rumors site.
You could build a couple AMD boxes with quality assured hardware, tested and retested to make sure its bug free, that included Gigabit Ethernet, Firewire and a host of awesome applications such as iTunes, iMovie etc.... for 1600?
While if you're so great i suggest you start a company and put apple out of business.
Apple looks ahead, not behind. X86 is dead, everyone knows it which is why everyone (Intel, AMD, IBM) are moving to 64 bit processors. Why in the world would Apple port to a processor that's being phased out by everyone else on the planet?
Yes they have an Intel version of Darwin, thats been out fo ages. I gaurantee there is no OSX on Intel.
I would believe a port to AMD's 64bit processor, or IBM's Power4 (which isn't a port at all since there is binary compatability). They would never, ever, never, port to an old outdated x86 that they have been talking smack about for 10 years +.
Why is it o hard for people to pay artists for their work and further more leave their art the way it was intended to be?
This attitude that consumers have a say so in the art artists create is going to destroy art in this country. It's already been eroded by the FCC and religious groups.
TV shows like NYPD can't even say "bitch" on TV with out having a picket line in front of their studio. How much money has the FCC made this year in fines from radio show hosts who step over the line?
So what, movies are edited for TV because the FCC demands it and because the networks need them to fit their 2 hour fixed time slot. God forbid someone test the possibility of extending a movie 3 minutes past the 2 hour mark. The only network I see stepping out of the norm is USA, but they still censor every possible word(I heard "sucks" get censored to "stinks" the other night).
Why cant I just turn the TV on, that I paid for, to watch a service for which I pay for with out a billion ads that i dont want to see cluttering up an artists ACTUAL work? i dont care if a movie is 2 hours long or 2:18 minutes long. If it's enjoyable I will watch it.
Art on TV is degrading into "Big Brother" and "Jerry Springer" shows with an abundance of regurgitated nonsense such as the "Osbournes" on MTV and now that ex playboy bunny's reality TV show. I'm sick of it. The only shows worth a damn anymore are on HBO and even those seriously test my patience.
Perhaps. I do like to see targeted advertising however. I don't like going to cnn.com and seeing ads about womens tampons and such, but if I see one for a new line of servers or some new backup software, I'd like to see it and research it.
CNN and MSNBC both do a good job of that. I have recently stopped visiting nytimes.com entirely because of their pop ads.
if I see an ad that interests me I click on it. The problem is that most ads don't interest me. Who's fault is that? The advertisers seem to think it's mine. I don't accept that.
Just why is it so easy to get a drivers license? In California you don't even need to speak english (how can these people read road signs?). It's totally out of control.
I didn't even bother studying the test. I found out they only had 3 variations on the test so i failed it three times so I would have the correct answers to which ever I took. Then I got 100% on my 4th test. The actual driving test was a joke. Never once did we get on the freeway, no parallel parking, no traffic. It was really descriptive of the CA DMV. CA pays more to the DMV than any other state in the country and our DMV has to be the absolute worst. Where is all this money going too?
All your lame "solutions" are reactionary, not proactive. You would like to *wait* until they do something and then through them in jail instead of stop it before it happens? To me thats even more criminal. People like you that want to send everyone to jail are the real criminals.
Where should we draw the line in your reasoning? If they crash send them directly to jail along with their parents. Nevermind my parents never had ANY idea I drove like that, nor do any parents. Thats what this is all about *KNOWING*.
Knee jerk reactionaries like you make me sick. You assume you know whats best for everyone else. Are we all to assume you never exceeded the speed limit? Should we put your parents in jail? Have you never broken a law, ran a stop light, cut someone off, done anything stupid? Lets put your parents in jail, they fucking deserve it for giving birth to you.
You make me sick and your entire mentality is a curse and virus on our society.
If this was around when I was 16 (10 years ago) the roads would have been a much safer place.
I've done a lot of growing up and now understand why insurance companies charge so much till you turn 26.
On my 16th birthday I got an inline 6 alpha romeo that did upwards of 145mph and I pretty much maxed it out everyday, everywhere. I made it from Livermore CA to Berkley in just under 10 minutes driving in the shoulder of i580 at 120mph.
I was totally out of control as were 90% of my friends. A lot of my friends died (I should have on a couple occasions). Just think fo the lives this can save? Teenagers have no right to privacy from their parents. Parents can't do their jobs unless they know everything. I'm a parent now and will whole heartedly support this.
Driving isn't a right, it's a priveldge and teenage kids need to prove they deserve it. The DMV doesn't do a good enough job filtering out good drivers and bad. Cops don't have the resources to catch them all especially since the majority of teenage bad drivers come out late at night.
If my daughter wants me to stay out of her room I'll respect that because I know teenagers are sensitive in regaurds to private matters. But if she is driving MY CAR and she is IN PUBLIC then I fully intend to know what the hell she is doing and with who. There is no recoginized right to privacy in public places (yes the freeway qualifies as a public place) and there certainly is no right to it in your parents automobile when they paid for it and the insurance not to mention the clothes on your back the food in your stomache and the 300$ phone bill you run up calling all your giggly little friends.
Parents have rights too, not to mention responsibilities.
I've had nothing but buggy games and crappy internet service from them. I played Diablo2 a lot (worlds all time most unbalanced game) and I actually counted the number of bnet outages in one month (24 out of 30 days). Now the one side says since it's a free service I shouldn't expect better, but I say if they want me to spend my hard earned money on their product then they need to make a better impression. Don't even get me started on the bugs in their games.
I could care less about then suing the bnetd folks, that's just business as usual in America, however distributing a shoddy game(s) and tauting lousy service not to mention the complete lack of customer service is in my opinion not acceptable.
I could write a book about the lousy communities their games create, with people stealing other peopls accounts, kids running around in games telling everyone to fuck off for no particular reason. The rampant pk'ing that goes on. The game hacks that blizzard never does anything about, the cheats etc.....
Crap company, crap products bloated reputation. I can always tell when a game is gonna suck when the company promoting it uses CG animation trailers instead of in game footage.
Man I love this post! I actually got into it over this exact thing with my friends dad (born again idiot). Of course the world is only 4000 years old regardless of how many multi million year old fossils we find. The world is flat too, didn't you know Satan controls the scientists?
I'm so tired of the religious nut cases in the country. Mormons especially. No state is as badly infected with religious lunacy as Utah.
1) The former CEO retired before this came out, and recieved a 400 million dollar loan from WorldCom via the CFO
2) The majority of the big wigs at WorldCom right now are new thanks to restructuring. This is called "being handed the bag"
3) Stockholders can not be held criminally liable. Notice the stock is down, that's because they sold it all to make a profit.
It's blindingly obvious what happened. You sound like a "cup is half full" kinda guy/gal. However in corporate America business is war and the majority of business folk truely are corrupt greedy and evil. I know this from many many many years of experience.
In the military the officers are held liable (even criminally) for all actions, duties and personal they are responsible for. In corporate America it's exactly the opposite thanks to golden parachutes, shady accounting practices, hiding behind corporate protections.
When something is complicated, 99% of the time thats a sign of corruption. If it's complicated it means people are trying to hide something (security through obscurity). Notice how complicated corporate America has become. It's diseased and everyone is figuring that out. Stocks are down because no one trusts busnesses anymore. Managers no longer manage, execs are no longer responsible, stock holders want to sell company after company making larger and larger profits. No one wants to build anything anymore. I remember when execs started companies to build a product or service, and they would stay with that company for decades until they retired. The avergae life expectancy of a CEO at a company today is less than a year before they sell the business or it goes under.
Guess I'm just a glass is half empty kinda guy......
I'd say it has less to do with choice and more to do with allowing products to compete on their merits, choice in this context is a matter of consequence.
Competition is often refered to as war. The Japanese used to, perhaps still do, refer to business as war. Atheletes such as football players consider themselves gladiators who go to war with each other. Is it so far fetched that competing companies, even competing coders would consider their competition a war? Perhaps it's not politically correct, but the point is, refering to it as a war puts the individual or team of individuals in a winners state of mind. It's a battle for market share, hence a "war".
I started on Linux in 1996 or so. I used netscape then of course, like everyone. This continued until last year when OSX came out and I bought a Mac. I used IE 5 up until about 2 months ago when i started using the mozilla nightly builds.
Mozilla is slow as hell to start up. I'm guessing this is because of the mail client and composer etc.. I truely hope the Mozilla people release an installer for 1.0 that will allow us to pick which components we want. I use Entourage for email and wont be giving it up. I hate that when clicking on a mailto: link in mozilla it uses it's mail client, why wont it use the system default like every other browser??
Omniweb comes close but its just to buggy and slow. IE is also buggy, but at least its moderately fast. iCab is just downright ugly and Opera is cool but the interface is a joke.
All in all Mozilla is the best browser on OSX right now, hands down. If they would just allow us to ditch the crap we don't want/need and speed up its start times I would be in hog heaven.
I took it to mean that they would create their own "slang". Kinda like the difference between Austalian english and American.
I could be wrong tho. I just see creating your own language on the fly as being a litle overly complex for AI in a computer game. Not to mention rather pointless.

We're not all losers.
Traditionally Mac users have more than one monitor (being graphics people etc) so it's very nice, especially with dual 23" flat screens :)
If you run a browser in full screen on one of those you are wasting a whole lot of screen real estate.
The DVD player if I'm not mistaken was software aquired through an aquisition. Then ported to the mac. Its probably a remnent of the old application.
Maybe you should trade the crystal ball for a crack pipe. Your divination might be more accurate that way.
I'm so tired of this rumor and the morons that propogate it endlessly.

end of rant
No but there are some obvious things that can be done. Why send me tampon ads when I'm reading an article about Intels new chipset?
They can do a much better job at matching products with websites. Thats all I'm saying.
hehehe, nice one
Perhaps. I do like to see targeted advertising however. I don't like going to cnn.com and seeing ads about womens tampons and such, but if I see one for a new line of servers or some new backup software, I'd like to see it and research it.
