As an employee of Comcast, lately they have been forcing us to learn the words "That was then. This is Comcast" Basically meaning that the big bad cable company will listen to what its customers want, and give them exactly that. And will stop doing dumb, and unfriendly things.
I guess the exec that closed TechTV didnt get this memo
This is another one of those lame court cases that will go no where... Google isnt purposely putting competition advertisements on searches for other companies, the competitors are putting advertisements on their competitors search results. Shouldn't they be sueing the competition for copyright infringement? If they are really concerned about copyright infringement, they should sue every page on the internet that mentions their name or trademark.
I agree with our cut-off policy for people infected with worms. Right now, we're not actually terminating their service, we're just blocking their SMTP and POP access so they cannot transmit viruses. In the rare case, our system will disable a customers account if they are transmitting a virus.
But, users are dumb, and I'll agree with that. Last summer when the blaster worm came out, we emailed out customers ahead of time telling them they need to download the microsoft patch.
On top of that, the Microsoft Windows Update popup that comes up by default, once a week, users still continue to ignore it because they don't know what it does.
Personally, I'd like to see more type of this internet policing by ISP's. They should also be blocking people who have open SMB shares on their Windows Networks. I cant count the number of times I've purposely went in Someones SMB share and dropped a text file telling them how to fix it.
I, however, disagree with the Government policing of the internet. I believe the internet should be policed by the people who pay for it to be there. That would be us and the ISP's
Currently the local telephone company has been running fiber optics down every backlane and underground tunnel in the city. By the end of 2005 every house in Winnipeg will have Fiber Optic to their backdoor.
Microsoft if worried about Apple gaining a monopoly on MP3 players... So what is microsoft then? an entry level company trying to gain a footstep in the industry? Microsoft is just worried that people will stop using their substandard equipment and software to use something superior.
Thats one reason why I dont have an Ipod now is the lack of WMA support. My Creative MP3 player will play pretty much anything I tell it too.. Including microsofts limited wma files.
Once apple gains a foot hold more or less it will be better for the consumer
If I had a choice of 10 crappy products or one good product on the market I'd take the 1 good product
I live in Winnipeg, Canada and our Internet provider shaw cable provided its full speed residential internet for $48 including taxes, but its lite-speed internet connection costs under $25 a month.
The full speed connection runs at upwards of 3megabit a second and the light speed runs at about 1.5megabit.
Our DSL service provided by MTS Sympatico runs for about $36.99 a month plus taxes
Okay, the movie was cool... the story line ran together flawlessly, and if you've seen the animatrix then it makes even more sense.
But Im slightly disappointed in the ending... from what it seems they're back at "Matrix" again. Zion is mostly destroyed. The "one" is dead(apperently) and the oracle says to the arcitecht that the people will now be free to leave, they will have the choice... But in the second movie, the architech said they've done this 5 times before... So, does that mean that as usual, they make the agreement, the same things happen, and they just reset the matrix like they did at the end of this one and everything goes back to normal?
Ya, probably... but I really want to know why neo was able to see outside the matrix even though he no longer has eyes... what the hell:P they never explained it.
Well sure, cluster 2 thousand of those bad boys and you'd have a sauna... oh, and a real computer.
I still dont see the point, some hobbies are better left, not hobbies.
Why not do something useful, like program your clock radio with linux. or your remote control. Something people use:P
You could do what my University Prof does, hand out different copies of the assignment. he hands out 4 different assignments, and keeps trackof who he gave them too.. that way its harder for people to cheat
No Canada is not that bad, (no offense to Americans) But unlike Canadians we take pride in our low crime rate and low fatality by Guns(Please watch Bowling for Columbine). If you watch the movie, you'll understand why Canadian security is high, and why our crime rate is low.
Wrong... If you do not have a drivers license you can present another form of ID such as a Military Card, A Senior Citizens Government Identification card, a Native Status Ship card, or an 18+ card which is available from any one our liquor marts. The card cost is minimal and is accepted just like any other government issued ID.
In Winnipeg Manitoba(Which for you who dont know is in Canada), almost 90% of our bars have had this system in place for years and hasnt had any reportings of being abused.
Here is how our system works. You walk through a metal detector, get patted down, they put your drivers license under a magnifier/camera, and take your picture, both are saved in their system.
Now, if you do cause trouble, or the cops come looking for you, they simply say "yes he's here" and point you out. If you do something dumb at the bar, their computer is then programmed to ban you for a pre determined time..
I have no problem with this system at all, Im not doing anything bad, so I have nothing to worry about, as for photo identification, I think its a great idea, I have photo ID at work, School, when I goto the bar, etc... I feel alot safer knowing the establishments I patron know who is in their facilities

The reason why shopping sites show up in the top results of google is purely because they have the most links back. PageRank technology is based on the number of returning links to a site. So if a shopping site has 10,000 affiliate websites of course its going to show up in the top.
Users just need to learn to be more specific on their searches. Instead of searching for "flowers" a user should search for "growing flowers" or "planting flowers" something to help limit the results
I have no intentions of buying an LCD monitor until the prices are more reasonable. I mean, really, who wants to pay $700+ for a 17inch LCD Screen? not me...
I think the standards should change slightly for POP3, and make a new release for POP4.
When a user recieves a message from an individual for the first time, the server should send an authorization request to the recipient asking if they want to recieve messages from *******@*****.*** with the subject ********
The server should not send more then one authorization request per address/originiating domain in a range of 12 hrs.
One the recipient authorizes the email to be delivered that user will beable to recieve mail from this person.
This would allow a user to only authorize their friends/family and other address's they want to keep, everyone they block will not be delivered, and authorizations will stop for 30/60/90 days.
What do you think about this solution?
When did Nullsoft Winamp start doing the Translucent window thing.
Also, ATI Video cards do transulucency for the TV overlay, and vice versa.

Next time I complain about my job please remind me of this article.
But who in their right mind would do these jobs...

*buzzz* wrong... Comcast is increasing its bandwidth in some markets to test to see if its possible to ofter it to all consumers...
Current Comcast Bandwidth for Comcast Residential(the basic package) is 1.5Mega Bit down and 256kilo bit up.
The Trial run is 3.5Mega Bit down and I think 386kilo bit up.
