Yeah, I am down with SomaFM. I even contributed some money. Maybe we should offer to implement a BB for them? They must already have solved the bandwidth problem.
Seriously, what is the status of the GTK file dialog? It is soo... bad. The best part is when Java made a swing version of it. Not sure what they were thinking.
Unless the grandparent was on crack, which is likely, "Finux" is the fictional operating system developed in Finland and is earlily similar to "Linux" in Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. I highly recommend reading it.
I am well aware of the fun of homologus recombination, since I routinely do yeast Knock-outs. I feel that getting living cells to take in new DNA though is at least 50 years off.
I think that hte best bet might be to make use of a proofreading polymerase with some correct versions of the affected DNA and hope for the best. I've also seen some papers by some folks who had a topical cream for introducing RNA fragmenets for blocking into skin cells.
So I am also a biotech person, and I have used Microarrays extensively in my research. I will say that they are a very cool, high-throughput tool, that enables insight into celluar function. They are not, by any stretch of the imagination, a means to "human programming".
While I like Microarrays, they have a number of drawbacks:
Noisy, the signal to noise ratio is almost unusable, unless you have REALLY BIG changes in RNA expression ( which is what they are measuring ). In the case of SARS I imagine that the differences were pretty high, so that it was relativley easy to detect the affected genes.
Sequence, in order to make an array, or "chip", one needs to do a whole-cell extract for the target organism, extract the RNA, reverse-transcribe it, sequence it, figure out where on the sequence it is, make sure it isn't a spliced form of some other gene, then spot it onto a slide. Basically you get the EST library. Not easy to do, still kinda unreliable.
All accounted for, I don't think that anyone is to the point of making monsters or playing god. In order to do that, we first need to figure out how to get cells to change their DNA which we are still at least 50-75 years away from doing.
So, if you have had the "fun" of dealing with credit in the USA lately you may have learned a few things:
You are FUCKED if something happens to you, like your old wireless company charging you after you've ended your contract and then not contacting you, then reporting you, then having them not contact you, then finding out when you try to get a loan.
It takes SEVEN years for a collection that you paid for to go off your record
The only way to have good credit is to be in DEBT!!! Nevermind that you made it through college, and several years after with no debt, and no credit cards, since you shouldn't really need them.
The credit reporting agencies seem to operate with no oversite, and there is no way to actaully contact a person at them.
It is BULLSHIT that you have to PAY for your own credit report!! This has become a critical part of getting stuff ( i.e. fun new toys ), and it does NOT cost them $10 to send me an e-mail.
If you are like me and really pissed off, and have some good advice on legislation that can be supported to change all this, please post it below.
Well, If you think about how many biologists who have been in the wet lab, and would like to use new tools, like computers, since not everyone is CS/Biology person, it makes sense that there is an easy way for non-cs people to use the tools they need.

In order to get some meaning full discussion I stated what is essentially a thesis statement, i.e something that can be argued from both sides. I think it was a sucess since it generated a fair amount of good conversation with some informed opinions.
FOSS is Free Open Source Software, which is NOT always GNU, nor BSD and rarely used by dentists;) I think it is a good term since it describes what I producem freely usable/modifiable software with no attemp to make money. Realize that plain old OSS could be a pay for it thing, but the source is now open to you.
I think that if you used vi instead of a full-blown distraction-incurring IDE it would be even better. I mean how many times have you read every help page?

Yeah,
I guess they should of thought of that. BUt then again I wouldimagine that they are aware of these problems and would release some clients at some point.

I guess the question is how well does the Kalender match up? There is no reason to use other programs if all the KOffice stuff works...unless you are like us and like options.
But in terms of being locked into software I would prefer Kroupware, including "Kolab" which is what this is actually called (RTFA?), over M$Office.
also why would you need to pay for licenses for a FOSS product?

It seems that/. folk are constantly talking about the need for a FOSS collaboration thingy, and this seems like it should be it. So, for all you folks who are always writing in telling how "Exchange is so great...blah", it seems like this is the answer.
I think they took out the BSOD feature, but I get periodic reboots on my XP system, usually when opening fifty-bazillion FirebirdTabs...for pr0...resarch;)
Your computer belongs to you. What happens with that computer is your responsibility.
Sorry, my account belongs to me, it is password protected and everything that involves me is in it. That I have an account on said computer is secondary.

Is it better on PC or XBOX?

no matter the content or expense - you've committed to a relationship for the time being.
It will be really special when wedding vows go like this:
Offial: Do you take this woman to be your wife for as long as there is mutual convienance for the time being?
Groom: Well, yeah, for the time being.

Usually when I type "ls" the output conforms to the terminal window I have open at the time.
Better yet, get a real estate for software deal going.

So back in the day my roomates and I designed an Operating System for the 21st Century, it was called: WEPOS.
WEPOS is the Warcraft, E-Mail, Porn Operating System.
I think that an off-the-shelf WEPOS system should facilitate all needs of the locals.
The Linux version is still pretty good. And spyware free ;)
Try Orbit 4 for Firebird, best looking them I've ever seen.
Flash click to View is the greatest thing ever.
The problem was that they had 7 other categories to put it under.
7 shall be the number thoust must count to, 8 shall be too many and 6 not enough. 9 is right out!
25MB...the gnu tools
and if you don't install emacs its like 5MB.
