  1. Re:geez, got my hopes up on Apple's Present: iTunes Supports Ogg Files · · Score: 1

please forgive me if i mumble this incorrectly or something, but doesnt ogg/vorbis playback require a processor that supports floating point calculations? something that most mp3 players don't have...unless the ipod has one :/ not sure...

something to shoot for tho :) i would love to see more formats supported by the ipod

  2. robotic assistant? on Christmas in 2050 · · Score: 1

o please, spare me the futuristic jetsons babble. for years has the human race spoke of having robots as assistants in the 21st century...it's the 21st century people and how far have we come? i have one word for you - aibo.

it certaintly would be scary if one could read another's mind. i'm sure freudians especially would be pissed.

    merry christmas all!

  3. I pay $20 per YEAR on How Much Do You Pay to Host Your Website? · · Score: 1

luckily for me, i use namezero for my domain name. it costs 20 bucks a year for forwarding. i forward the site to my web server at home in nyc, where i connect to the internet with road runner...but i get road runner for free, so it works out well for me...furthermore, they dont block port 80, so it just makes it dandy for me!!!

"Who's going to make money selling burned CDs of lossy-compressed music?"

the street vendors who sell their CDs without letting the consumer hear a sample in the first place...god knows i bought a couple pirated CDs off the street without absolutely knowing if the CD were audible or not. for five bucks, you can't beat that!!!

  6. reasons why pda's are useful on Do People Really Use Their PDAs? · · Score: 1

i bought my first pda relatively late (when the palm Vx came out), but i still use it all the time. sure its a little more difficult to read or enter text than a regular old planner...but it can fit in my pocket and hosts a number of programs that i see very useful to me. first and foremost, vindigo is by far the most useful application to have especially if you live in a higly urbanized area (like new york :) avantgo is also a very useful tool. i stopped subscribing to the nytimes, wired, and the economist because you can get almost the same amt of content on ur palm. same goes for pcworld, etc. you can also synchronize all ur financial accounts from ur yodlee account into ur palm. very useful finally, with more and more devices coming out now that have more memory, wifi connectivity, pda phone combinations, mp3 players, etc..., i see less of a need to carry more and more devices, when you can have everything in one package. unfortunately i still only use a palm Vx...anyone wanna buy me a new pocket pc?

looks like slashdot kind of exaggerated in their post "gun wielding FBI agents". they seemed to be nice, according to the article at least...anyway, enough humor...i agree with the fact that they deserved it. i'm sure there will be some other similar stories in the future, but let this be an example for all you uncappers!!!

easy buddy, lets not scare the kids with that language...to reply to your comments, i think its as equally opportunistic to use a *nix variant than a windows based machine. i guess it all depends on if dad knows *nix well enough to administer it

  9. i'm a fan on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 2, Insightful

i'm a big fan of microsoft for many reasons - and i know all you open source junkies are gonna hate me for this - but it gets the job done.

i'm not really that big into configuring every little aspect of the operating system, etc, etc, etc, its just more of a convenience thing.

it all depends on what you want out of a computer. if you are the type to compile and configure every little thing, then i guess *nix would be the OS for you.

i, on the other hand, use computers for convenience (and thank god for win2k/XP cuz win9x was disastrous)...i honestly don't see how linux (for home users) is "convenient." sure its pretty "convenient" when it comes to the corporate world, but as a home user, it just is not all that practical. especially if i'm not the only one using the computer. however, i tip my hat to those distros out there that try to provide a very user friendly experience (redhat, mandrake, etc).

  10. Re:other messaging programs on AOL Selling AIM Gateway/Listener To Employers · · Score: 1

basically what i was trying to say was that there are many office employees that dont know what gaim/trillian/etc is (let alone know how to install it)...infact there are equally as many office network admins that don't really do their jobs...which basically means there will be many offices with msn messenger installed by default without employees having to do a thing...thus making it much easier to turn to msn as an alternative...
