WASHINGTON A virus seriously disrupted computer systems at the State Department this week, including the database for checking every visa applicant for terrorist or criminal history. The failure left the government unable to issue visas worldwide for nine hours.
The virus, which struck Tuesday, crippled the department's Consular Lookout and Support System, which contains more than 15 million records from the FBI, the State Department and immigration, drug enforcement and intelligence agencies. Among the names are those of at least 78,000 terror suspects.
A State Department spokesman said the virus, known as Welchia, did not affect any data on the name-checking system, and the agency's classified computer network - used to send its most sensitive messages and files - was not affected.
....That $1.2 million should be spent on something that really matters... like new textbooks?
It'd be nice if the a student's laptop doubled as the textbooks for ALL his/her paper-based textbooks, having them all on CD/DVD. Those stacks of books get heavy when you try to carry them home with you.
Also consider how many cell phones become 'obsolete' if you ever change networks. A friend of mine emailed a picture shot from his phone, there's a lot lacking in resolution and exposure metering. If you want to take pictures any/everywhere you go and portability is higher importance, get a Canon Digital IXUS or A60/A70/A80. Those cameras are very compact and can beat any lens/sensor slapped on a phone.
Marge (reads letter): Dear parents. Due to yesterday's unscheduled field trip to the auto wrecking yard, the school bus will be out of commission for two weeks. By reading this letter out loud, you have waived any legal responsability on our part in perpetuity throughout the universe.

Note We've taken great care to ensure that PowerToys operate as they should, but they are not part of Windows and are not supported by Microsoft.
I dont see the big fuss over this. He said 512K. It could have been read as K=thousand and omitted the unit. 524,288 kb = 512MB...i think that's right.
Good thing Patent and IP laws weren't in place when:
-The wheel was invented -The method of sparking a fire using stones and/or sticks was found -The idea of using some kind of 'tender' as exchange rather than plain trading. -A design of a boat/ship were devised -Crop-rotation was invented and implemented - etc, etc, etc
Hemos: (holds gun to RIAA exec) CmdrTaco: (shoves release-contract for CowboyNeal in front of RIAA exec) Either your brains or your signature, will be on this contract...
While we're at it, lets spoof the files with loops like "what the f*** do you think you're doing", "all your base are belong to us", or "f*** you I won't do what you tell me"
Most likely, your copy of Adobe Photo Deluxe is an actuall install CD (unlike those OS-restore cds) that you can give or sell to someone who can put it to use. I doubt that the EULA stipulates you must use it with the printer...
I'm able to use my x86 laptop as a DVD player using the Composite video out, DVD played with xine. No macrovision stopping me here. Hooks up nicely to either a TV or VCR.
Why anyone would buy a laptop with an integrated camera is beyond me. Aside from it being proprietary, the camera only serves as a webcam or a quick in-front-of-the-computer shot. I can't imagine anyone toting a computer to take pictures of the Grand Canyon or other scenic places. I doubt this camera will allow you to adjust the shutter speed, aperature, or other settings. Another point worth mentioning is that the camera (from http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-S tart;sid=LDp-rnTJAr5-kkvVW110pTvGOpFAyy8seS8=?Cata logCategoryID=7gwKC0%2eNOosAAAD2WYTZ7HTA&Dept=cpu& TemplateName=item%2fsy_item_b&ProductID=FAQKC0%2eN LzUAAAD2CJfZ7HTD&ContentItemPage=) is only a "CMOS 370,000 pixels (VGA 640x480)". Even a mediocre digital camera will outperform the integrated one.

Yahoo! and AOL does provide Windows, Mac, and Linux/Unix clients. Both also offer online Java clients for use on public computers.
IIRC, you can boot up a Knoppix CD and pass a desktop parameter to boot up Gnome.
So when a 12 yr old does it it's $2000, but when it's two college kids it's $12,000,000,000.

Microsoft Windows: Where do you want to go in the dark today?
How about a wind-up dynamo crank on the side of the laptop? Let's make it 1 minute winding = 30-60min power.
the 50mp/g I was refering to was for the v6 hybrid system that (hopefully) will release. sorry for the misunderstanding.
I just hope in a few years they'll release a hybrid equivalent of a Camry V6. Oh yes, I got 200 hp and gets 50miles per gallon!
perhaps a little too optimistic, but I wouldn't be suprised.

Last I checked, the Linux/Unix client released by AOL and Yahoo for their IM service didn't include the banner ads...just a thought.
I knew I've seen this done before:

"turbo" is old terminology, let's label it "go-baby-go!"

Hope they send the bill with a "postage paid by addressee" envelope. Let them have their $699 in pennies.

For example, TV and monitor tubes are opened with a special tool and separated into leaded and unleaded glass, melted and reused in new displays!
Hey this display looks like Regular unleaded....she needs premium dude... premium
....could it be because every other Linux distribution includes Mozilla browser?
