What I don't understand is, isn't Patchou (www.msgplus.com) doing, more or less, the same thing?
After installing the MSN Plus extension you will still use MSN messenger, but be able to switch off the advertisements.
If this is about the way microsoft pays for the maintenance of the service, instead of the unlicenced use of their protocol (the licence then only being a tool for them to make you use their program, hence look at their ads) they will probably go after MSN Plus too.
So, Mr. Bell does not agree with the new designs, hm?
Well, I just so happened to be browsing a Russian site about space research and glanced at the researchers that 'helped' them with their research. Now, gentlemen, what did see? I saw that not one, not two, but three Bells are working with, or should I say, _for_ them and two of those Bells happened to be American.
Now here we are, reading an article about a Bell who does not agree with the American NASA's Orbital Space Plane designs...
"Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Drain his blood! kill the pig! Cut his throat! Kill the pig! Bash him in!" they yelled and started their intense dance under the darkening sky.
I don't seriously think the money that the money they use for the space program would be used for the people, but I do know that it _should_ be used for the people.
How?
- They should invest in infrastructure. The lack of proper roads slows down development.
- Investigations into corruption should be started.
- In most towns and small cities they don't even have real sewers. Heck, half of the people doesn't even have a toilet.
I didn't state the solutions since they are even more obvious than the problem is.
I do study Chinese polics and believe me, they need every single Yuan. The problem is that the whole Chinese system is based on 'The grander the project, the more positive attention, the more chance of getting a raise'. School funds are being spend on huge new science-buildings with telescopes on top, while the classrooms right next to it need new paint (peeling of the walls), new desks (students share the ones that are still in one piece) and new lights (at night they do their homework in the near dark, as only every one out of five lights work). I've seen it happen.
It's not just space programs, that's just one of the examples. They should cut the crap and start building their country.
China ought to use all that money and invest it in their economy, schools, health system, and anything else _but_ useless look-how-big-my-d1ck-is crap.
There are hundreds of millions of Chinese living a miserable life and finally their economy is steadily starting to improve. Finally they have a partyleader who actually tries to improve their living conditions, Hu. They should use this money for their country, not try to rival with the US.
//I lived in China and am currently studying 'Chinese languages and cultures' at Leiden University.
It doesn't really matter, but I couldn't just let it go; the book title isn't very original.
In 1971 Abbie Hoffman wrote a book with the title 'Steal this book'.
The book was about how to get things like food, transportation, housing and communication for free.
I think someone slashdotted the scratch robot, 'cos he aint doin nothin.
Now, slashdotting the scratch robot isn't a big deal, it isn't alive, but what about the skin-robot one? Their inventors claim it's alive. Would we be killing it?
people (we) here in China are no idiots, nor backwards developed.
I'm not Chinese, but I've been living here for quite a while now and know that Google is here, just as (almost?) everywhere else, the number one search engine. The Chinese goverment can put up something like this, but it's not going to be easier for them to be any kind of real challenge for google, just because they're communists.
Trust me, this is another useless attempt of the Chinese goverment to control the internet and it won't work anyway.
So don't worry.
But I do know that all the phones here in China support Chinese characters. Pinjin (the system to write chinese using the alphabet) is used for input.
I don't see any reason why pda's or smartphones won't have this kind of language support.
Hm, after a quick search on the palm os site I found this palm os page
A quote:
Arabic PiLoc provides the localization of Palm OS to Arabic, Urdu and Farsi (Persian) languages and enables Arabic, Farsi, Urdu on-screen keyboards, Arabic text writing from right to left and text sorting operation functionality. It is compatible with Palm OS 3.0-3.3.
I suppose it's not that hard to find plugins for other languages.
... for a while now, I think I can say that they had better spend the money somewhere else.
China is a relatively safe place, but that's only because there are so many people. It's almost impossible to do anything here without half the town knowing about it.
However, the traffic police, food and health-inspection people are only two of the many organisations who could use some more money to buy some real equipment or to just be able to pay their employees a decent salary.
The Chinese government and it's workers prefer investing a lot of money in things they don't really need but look good (what will improve their carreer), instead of investing in those important matters an outsider won't notice.
I don't mind the phonenumbers on the walls (yes, there are lots of them). I do mind health-inspection being neglected.
No kidding, Children are a lot like computer programs, Input affects output, but in the end its the programmer ( parents ) that direct the nature out the output,
For the ones who need a visual to understand such complex ideas.
My phone has only two extra buttons on the bottom.
The * and the # next to the zero.
It is what makes my phone this small and easy in use.
After I read the article I drew the keys to figure out how large it would be (I didn't see the link).
This way of integrating the alfabet will make it neccecary to make six more buttons. SIX more bottons.
If they start to really use this, making phones as small as mine (a motorola V series 60) will not be an option anymore, because of the huge keypad.
Everybody is talking about building quantumcomputers, but no one has thought of a way to stop the distorsion that occurs when making an electron spin.
The are multiple ways to make it spin, on of them is using a magnetic field. This will influence the electrons nearby. Other methods do have the same effect.
There are two ways to deal with this:
1. Find a method that will not create distorsion.
So far, no one has been able to come up with a good solution.
2. Compromise the distortion in the software.
This will reduce the extra speed, gained by using the quantum mechanics, to almost nothing.
Therefor, untill we find a way to make the particles spin in one or two directions without influencing the others, we will not be able to use all the extra speed.
Distorsion is not the only problem.
The order in which the particles are made to spin will also influence the state of the particles.
I didnt' read the article, so if this has been sad already, I'm sorry.

Or am I wrong about this?
That's a very political correct way of saying that I suck :)
I'll try to be funnier next time
Please wait a second while I go do my happy dance.

Coincidence? I think not.

Nice BricK(tm) design.
Ah, crap.
No more ut2003 lan until 5 am when I have to get up at 7:30. Kills my brain and my wit
Yes, Hu Yintao is the General Secretary of the Central Committee, for short: party leader.

Murderer!

No, you are right. The correct name is Pinyin.
Typo, my bad.

fancy schmancy windows, startmenus and clippies?
DosShell is all I need.
instead of a flying car and iWhatever,
my 2013 wishlist just says 'girl (real please)'.
But I'll probably have to settle for a wireless network and direct access to pr0n on my iWatch/iPda/iPhone/iNameitwevegotit.

Once popcorn is popped, you can't pop it again. In order to make popcorn you have to pop corn, not pop popcorn.
Therefore, your post should have been "...but can I pop corn with it...".
We wouldn't want the comments on Slashdot to be nonsense, now would we?
