It was used on me once. I checked my amazon account (recommendations I think) at a cybercafe once, and two weeks later that machine one-click-ordered a dozen explicit lyric rap cds for me. (Would it hurt amazon to put a "sign out" button on their website?)
I had never enabled one-click ordering but Bezos had thoughtfully done that automatically. I immediately tried to cancel when amazon sent the confirming email but to no avail. So yeah, its just a mechanism for pissing you off.
The games industry (in US/UK/Aus anyway) is indeed casual.
I imagine that if you apply to a games company (apart from maybe EA canada), the first thing engineering (as opposed to HR) would say would be "wow, that's the first female who's ever applied for a programming position" and give you an automatic interview. That was my experience anyway (the female in question was no longer at the address on the CV though, so that interview never took place).
I have heard rumours about female games programmers (e.g. seen their names in comment blocks in conversion projects) but not had sufficient experience with them (i.e. actually met any) to say whether modification would help or hinder your path. Perhaps you could ask his female colleagues?
So what is the chinese character for "gay" then? I understand the lambda symbol and the double mars symbol and I guess a pink triangle or a rainbow flag could be done, but I didn't know about the chinese one.
Don't forget the police DNA database, which is of full samples of people who may not have been convicted of any crime. A significant percentage of all males in the UK are already on this database.
When full sequencing becomes cheap, expect the authorities to order a few more hard-drives.
making Scotland look tiny in the view compared to the south of England.
But it is tiny, in terms of number of viewers. There must be four times as many viewers in the south of england as in scotland, why should scots get more of the screenspace (or more of the tax money, or more of the members of parliament) than those in the south?
Not at all! The old system was completely rubbish! A small picture of the country that always had a couple of suns and a couple of clouds planted over it at odd places no-where useful.
The new system shows the areas where rain is expected.
It would be greatly improved by better use of colour though, instead of making the entire country beige. Perhaps they were complaining about how PAL and NTSC have lower resolution in chroma than luma, but the relief can still be done in luma so I think it could be made to look better. Just make the sunny bits more yellow!
In the UK already a large proportion (over 10 percent) of black males and a significant proportion of other males have had their DNA taken by the police in the last couple of years (mouth swabs) and put on file. Conviction is not required, since the courts ruled that taking DNA is not an invasion of privacy. So I wouldn't count on those safeguards.

e.g. stupid new microsoft wireless keyboard, with the function keys spaced differently (and with silly names printed on them), HUGE delete key and home/end moved around, and a space bar the size of a ZX spectrum's since they have to have all those windows logo keys.
An acquaintance of mine got several months for that sort of thing (a group of people threw a bottle at him and his drag queen friend so he ran after them and beat them up). Since this was in London it was obviously caught on x dozen video cameras and the police were there pdq (pretty damn quick) to arrest everyone. The way the cops see it, you can defend yourself but you have to know when to stop.
Their chips would almost certainly be made in Taiwan, and probably assembled in mainland china. The only things that get made in the USA any more are flags and missiles.
Or you could get a gamecube and play against/with your kids while being in the same room and interacting with them. If I had friends/relatives coming round I would be way more interested in party games (monkey ball, smash bros, etc.) than in them being in another room playing a first person shooter.
Well when they change patent infringement to be a criminal offense like copyright infringement, programming will be de facto outlawed (and using computer software). The only reason software is still allowed in the USA is poor enforcement - a huge amount of it is bound to be infringing some patent or other. If they chuck people into jail for that, americans can get back to being subsistance farmers (as long as they don't plant any seeds that have not been paid for to the owners of their patented genes).
Is short for the name of the newbie game of "Association Football" (1863).
As opposed to Rugby Football (written rules 1845) , including the first football (rugby) club, "Guy's Hospital Football Club", formed in London in 1843.

Dang Vogons!
Mom: Look! Sue is taking her first step.
Billy [crawling on stomach]: Mom! Look at me! I can fly!
Ah, a Wing Commander fan!

Electronic tags have already become a fashion accessory amongst UK youth. It's only a matter of time before the cheap imitations become common...

The "more beautiful" part is a matter of opinion.
IIRC in mediaeval Iceland the speaker of the Althing had to recite the entire law each year, and anything not recited was not in effect that year.
My friend has a microsoft "wince" phone and it crashes many times each day.
You forgot Windows 286 :-)
Well that is where the murders and assaults tend to take place.
