  1. Non satelite Gamer plans on Maximum Latency for ISPs? · · Score: 1

Some ISP's who use satelite also offer a Gamers plan that doesn't use the satelite and has a much higher ping. Of course since your bypassing their bulk buying satelite power you either pay more money or/and get less bandwidth.

Quote:"It's true you can register a copyright any time, but you can't sue [copyright.gov] for infringement until you have registered and you can't get certain damages for infringement that occured prior to registration

SCO still wants the infringing code to be in the linux kernel when they do copyright it, then infringments will occur after copyright.

You could good read 'hacking' books like http://www.hackinglinuxexposed.com or any number of unix books. i'm eagerly awaiting absolute OpenBSD atm :)

  5. Linux on a "Buzz word" high on HP Thailand Sells $450 Linux Laptop · · Score: 1

I'm not a flamer, really i'm not. Why is it that all these forign governments are all looking into linux? I believe BSD would serve a government better. Yes i'm on linux now, it allows a lot more fiddling and customizing, but linux is just too open for secure government type settings. Is "Linux" still on a buzz word high??

PS, i realise a lot of people reading this have no knowledge of BSD, please keep that in mind when writing replies. And for the BSDers, OpenBSD.

  7. SCO's first sue saves us from the second :) on What if SCO is Right? · · Score: 2, Insightful

If SCO is just trying to hurt linux to try get people going back to their unix, its a waste of time. Worst case, everyone will be using OpenBSD, i'm not sure about the other BSDs, but OpenBSD is EXTREMLY anal with their licencing.

The irony of all that would be in the fact that openbsd is a fork from bsdlite, which i believe came about from when SCO sued 386BSD.

if i can't buy the CD and play it on my computer and stereo, i'll just download a pirate version and burn that to CD, then i can again do both.

The question is, are there more people in my situation, or non-pc-literate people that can only pirate music because the P2P programs have a nice user interface?

I was in the same situation before DVDs came out, in my experience purchased VHS were HORRIBLE quality, you get a much better quality version by pirating movies.

Microsoft's EULA is a joke. Just listen to the operator giggling at you when you try recieve the refund clearly offered within the EULA if you do not agree to its terms.

This is of course refering to the long running (losing) battle against the "microsoft tax" for GNU laptop users.

In the end, the EULA will only be used as ammo against anyone that particularly ticks microsoft off, it doesn't mean a thing to the everyday user.

found out today that my adsl company has no record of my order either :\

I'd definatly like to see an online western digital shop.

  13. 12 months not enough for buisnesses on Red Hat Announces Product EOL Calendar · · Score: 1

I'm supprised this article took so long to come to slashdot, the death dates have been on redhats errata page for many months. As mentioned earlier, this plan makes redhat unsuitible for many buisnesses. Our company cannot afford the TESTING/migration/downtime/TESTING, nor the extradinary price of the RedHat Advan$ed $erver. I STRONGLY feel that redhat should at least support their .2 release untill the next .2 release, their current model will at one point support only 8.0 and 8.1 This new policy has forced (yes, absolutly forced) us to look for alternate distribution. We are currently in the progress of configuring/testing a debian system.

  14. I find beeps and flashing lights relaxing on Making Your Bedroom a Sanctum from Technology? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I don't find technology stressful, i love things beeping and flashing as me. My bedroom is my office, so i can keep an eye on things 24/7, i have them setup to "beep" if somthing goes wrong. I used to have a seperate bedroom, but i actually found that quite stressful, wondering what was happening in the office. On many occasions i'd leap out of bed and run in here thinking that i heard somthing.

The only thing i've done towards relaxing is getting a WiFi laptop, so i can sit under a tree in the backyard and code :)

I'm addicted to my work, lucky me :)

  16. They have a reason on Aussie State Gov't Seeks to Regulate Web Photos · · Score: 0

Its about that artist that likes getting hundreds of people nakid together and posing outdoors. Of course he's careful to hide people identities and the rest, but someone filmed the occasion and it has appeared on a porn site called somthing like Australian Nude Adventures. It clearly identifies peoples faces and privates. The Australian Gov has done this so it has a way of doing somthing about it.

I can't find a link on any news sites, i think the word "nude" trows them, its been all over TV here though.
