I prefer learning everything possible. After all, information is power.
If you compare the income of someone who only knows one skill, with someone who knows hundreds, I don't see why people would prefer the ignorant way (other than lazyness).
"A deepness in the sky", the prequel to the popular "A fire upon the deep" by Vernor Vinge, has these things in action in a cool application. (This is a Sci-fi book, just to clarify)
The reason the Xbox isn't closer to the ps2 is that it isn't "cool" in japan, and thus the amazing console game creation prowless of the japanese isn't paying much attention to the Xbox(except for the companies that MS pays to create games). That, and the lack of good games aside from halo for the first year and a half of the Xbox's existance.
Physical property wasn't created by the legal system. Heck, before civilization people would fight to protect physical property, but I doubt they would care too much about intellectual property.
Schools can only afford low end tech salaries, and thus they mostly get one of the flood of ignorant MSCE sheep. And it doen't take much experience to realize how fanatical they are about Microsoft.
Sounds like he has investments, or some other finiancial interests, in embedded linux.
It really isn't realistic to say desktop linux is over at a time when it's never been so popular. Maybe "desktop linux profits" aren't so hot, but linux wasn't designed to make money with anyways. And maybe "desktop linux as #1 popular desktop" isn't seeming very likely either. But I see no reason why whithin the next few years we can't get a decent amount of application, games, and hardware support for linux. I'm doing fine right now, and since I never had ties to msoffice, photoshop etc, the native linux solutions currently available a fine for me. It's just people habits and windows app training that traps most of them. Also, as an nvidia card owner, linux gaming is good enough to fill all my gamings needs.
There is a big difference between "windows has won", and "linux has lost".
The sooner it is tested, the better. If there is anything legally wrong with the GPL then wouldn't you rather know as early as possible, then close your eyes and hide in ignorance , only to open them when something bad happens later?
Those are actually pro-windows trolls who don't want anyone to use linux. In my experience a linux user will never tell someone that linux isn't for them.
Why do ppl tweak cars? Why do ppl have sex without the intent to reproduce? The answer is that they get some sort of pleasure out of it. Although compilling a kernel isn't as pleasurable as sex, its atleast equal to installing special piston rings or some such.
I never fit into ANY paradigm I've ever seen. For ex: I am sometimes introvert and sometimes extrovert, I prefer to believe I am the best of both worlds though.
Who mods this junk up anyway?
Sure China is all "evil", but the previous poster was just pointing out that the US is "bad" and getting worse, while China is getting less "evil", and implying that pretty soon the USA is bound to cross that line to "evil", while China may possible cross over to "bad" in time. I hope that translation into you simple language will help you to understand.
Obligatory hhgttg reference:
Just watch out for when elevators are given an AI powerful enough to see into the future and know your request. Watch out for when they go sideways though.
That's wierd, last time I tried mandrake (9.0) it didn't need root for cd or disk, nor with all the 8.x versions. Are you using something older than 8.0? or did they maybe mess up 9.1. Now I use gentoo, with the supermount module for cd/disk mounting and it works fine. To fix the permissions(using the gui too!) run this without quotes: "kdesu konqueror" , and navigate to your cdrom and/or floppy, right click on it, and select permissions tab, and select the first 3 boxes in the groups column, and where it says ownership replace the group "root" with "users" . that should work unless mandrake is totally non-standard. I don't know why your having these problems in the first place, maybe your running a beta mandrake set? Hope that helps.

And it really sucks that I have to post this as AC. Damn I never have mod points when I need them.
Oh yeah? well I have an IBM ps/2 model 43, with a 20mhz 486, and it just won't die. Great box to keep around for old dos games.

It's not like selling an OS'less PC is illegal or anything. People are merely to afraid of MS wrath. Retail price for you puny vendor!

Don't know if it is like amiga, but It is better than the usual linux way imho.

Programmers could be the bounty hunters of the future, coding and chasing down bugs for profit and adventure.
Surely there must be some criminal charges that can be laid against SCO in some jurisdiction.
Maybe the RIAA can spot some money to the redhat fund for the favor they did of not including mp3 support.
This is exactly what was needed, now lets hope they don't back off, and keep breathing down SCO's neck.

Would be better and more secure, but that'd be one bloated bios, and would add an extra 250-300$.
