and that's the point. There's millions of folks out there itching for an excuse to do what they already want to do. Fake news doesn't work on people thinking critically, but you're not after those.
the value of crypto currencies is based almost entirely on the illicit goods you can buy with them. Mostly Drugs and Ransomware payments. Neither of those things have much in the way of actual costs, which is why you see these crazy valuations. You can afford to 'lose' thousands in crypto currency when all you're really doing with it is buying a few real dollars worth of pot or using it to launder money.
The sad thing is there's plenty of legitimate uses for the tech and the ideas but at the moment they're getting swamped by the illegitimate ones.
but it's good news for anyone looking to buy a new graphics card. The GTX 1060 6gb I bought on sale for $220 in February is pushing $450-$500. Not sure if that's miners or scalper's preying on them but it sucks either way.
you're wrong about the money just going to paychecks. It'll go to services, just not bike paths. Taxes like this are used to finance tax cuts for the rich. Lotteries too. All sorts of things. It's a "regressive" tax.
and not because we want to shave the whales. It's a regressive tax. Oregon needed more money and they couldn't get it from the rich in the form of income tax so they're getting it from the poor by taxing bikes. The $200 limit is obviously an attempt to blunt the worst effects on the poor (you can get a decent used commuter for under that) but it'll still hurt some.
The left want progressive taxation. This is regressive.
they'll go where the money is. Meanwhile pissing off rust belt employees is what cost Hilary the election (our demented politics means a few thousand people decide the outcome of presidential elections).
Atkins 'works' because you can't eat carbs, and most of the junk food people eat is carbs (Soda, Cake, cookies, etc). People on Atkins clean up their diet. I went vegetarian a few years ago for the same reason and it's kept the weight off. I can't go to Mickey D's and scarf 3 double cheeseburgers when I'm eating veg.
of hotdogs every day and never gain any weight. Me? I can eat like a bird and gain weight all while doing 60 miles a week on my road bike at 15/mph average.
As science gets better we're finding out people aren't fat without reason. It's mostly genetics and gut bacteria as far as we can tell. Yes, the laws of thermodynamics haven't gone away. But there are massive differences in how two people process the same amount of food.
What's that old quote? For every complex problem there's a solution that's simple, elegant and wrong. Guess what, you just found one of those.
the vast majority of human beings work hard for nothing. That's not me grousing, it's just cold hard fact. If you're a factory worker in Indonesia you can work as hard as you want. It won't matter. Heck, there's people in India getting kidney failure because they won't take breaks while working the fields.
because you benefit from the work they do. That's what a civilization is. We all work together. Did you build your PC out of matchsticks on your Grandfather's deathbed? Did you invent the microprocessor? No? Then bugger off with your stupid right wing think tank created talking point.
You, me and everyone reading this owe those kids an education because our success was built on the backs of the last gen and our retirement will be built on the backs of the next gen. That's how this works. Anything else is just exploiting people for gain. You know this. Which is why you trot out trigger words like "Social Justice" instead of facing the real issues head on.
they might start showing some more interest. Originally Google Fiber was probably a hedge against the ISPs. They lost interest when the Obama admin sided with them. Kinda like how Valve dropped the Steam box when the Microsoft Store flopped.
I can answer that. It's because the media conglomerates that push the narrative of personal responsibility are owned by billionaires using that narrative to lower their tax burdens and claim a larger piece of the economic pie. Do I get a gold star?
the mortgage thing was a problem because the banks loaned more than the houses were worth and thus could not get their money back. Short of dying or dropping off the grid you're gonna pay those loans. Hell, if you live in the south they've got debtor's prisons for you.
for decades. Yeah, bad or unfinished degrees from people who's lives are a mess. A lot of them not all there in the head (I had a rough upbringing, so I know a lot of flakes). I can't get too worked up by this. The college graduates that make it more than pay for the ones that don't. And the folks whining about paying are the ones benefiting from their labor.
I'm pretty sure the majority of people reading this would like to see free college. The question is when are we gonna put our votes where our mouths are?
in the entertainment biz. Most celebrities use the publicity to their advantage and happily pocket the settlement money. That's where Gawker screwed up. They thought this was a routine legal dispute over a celebrity sex tape. That Hogan was in it for the publicity and money same as them. If Gawker really was just an entertainment rag this wouldn't be an issue. But then again, if they were just an entertainment rag they wouldn't have gotten shut down by a billionaire and his money.
For what it's worth Gawker did lots of good journalism and funded it with shlock. They were one of the last sources of political muckracking of the kind that exposes the worst of our system. And we just lost them. If you think we're not worse off for it you haven't been paying attention.
to me is this: Gawker didn't comply because they thought this was just tabloid style back and forth. They'd cut Hogan some of the profits they made from the tape in the form of a settlement and all would be well. That's pretty much par for the course in the entertainment biz.
What they didn't realize is that they were the target of a destructive campaign. We in America just had our legal system used to shut down a pretty significant group of Journalists. Gawker did a _lot_ of good journalism and funded it all with their tabloid shlock. People on this forum are massively underestimating what we lost and just how frightening an abuse of power this represents...
and financed it with tabloid style scandals. Normally they'd have been fine. What got them is they didn't know that Hogan had that billionaire behind him until it was too late. Hogan's sex tape had some legitimate newsworthiness. Specifically his racially charged comments. As a public figure Gawker is well within their rights to report on them. What's more, we've lost a legitimate source of good 'ole fashion muck racking of the kind that used to keep abuses by the rich in check.
Whatever your personal views on Gawker you're going to regret losing them as the billionaire class can now operate in shadow. Good luck starting your business if it competes with or even gets noticed by them.
First off, thanks for trotting out Karl Rove/Regan's tired old talking point about government. To which I'll say: A government agent paid for the life saving medicine for a family member of mine. While a capitalist declined to order some cat scans for said family member because they were afraid they wouldn't get paid if the scans came up negative and caused lots of complications. Google the phrase "Wallet Biopsy" sometime and be horrified.
Now on to the next point: I get it. You don't like Government. Well, tough titties. See, gov'ts are really, really useful. For everyone. If you try to do without one the rich and powerful won't. They'll make one for you. Well, not you per se. For themselves. And _only_ themselves.
And for Pete's sake pick a better sig. Sweden doesn't have a bloody police state. The USSR and China are not progressive. You do understand that people can lie, right? The folks who crammed your head full of those ideas did. Go read some of Liz Warren and Al Franklin's books. Then check their sources (they're all meticulously sourced) and then go read A People's History Of The United States. You've been had.
or a simile, I can't remember which is which. It was also meant to distract from the issue. While we're all busy laughing at him and going ha-ha he's busy convincing the rest of his country to go along with his scheme.
they'll lose their 3 hour lunch break and still have to work late.

when you've got unlimited resources and no morals you can do petty crap like this.
you're wrong about the money just going to paychecks. It'll go to services, just not bike paths. Taxes like this are used to finance tax cuts for the rich. Lotteries too. All sorts of things. It's a "regressive" tax.

we've always been at war with Eurasia.
Make it a Steam Box. Otherwise what's the point of x86? I guess the could run Windows but the cost would probably be to high.

Hey behind Medicare For All. That's real. UBI of still pie in the sky.
