People are lazy and don't care, until it affects them directly. Like those EULAs, no one reads them, even if you might be agreeing to Apple performing biological experiments on you.
Culture of corruption? You mean like how US politicians are in bed with the banks? Why weren't there any bankers thrown in jail after the 2008 meltdown, which was caused by MASSIVE corruption in the private sector and the public agencies that were supposed to oversee the banks? Why did the SEC go after Martha Stewart for a measly $200K, while they ignored Madoff and his $40B Ponsi scheme despite many tips from people in the industry? Oh, and the war in Iraq? Guantanamo? The Chinese are pikers compared to the Americans.
RIM has been too slow. I can't blame them because new Android phones have been coming out at a furious pace. I'm looking into buying a smartphone now, and Blackberries are completely out of consideration. The only thing they have going for them is rock-solid security, which is still attractive for the business market. I hope this kind of situation will put the fire under their asses to come out with something more competitive. The next few years for RIM will be rough.
My question is, why is Apple into the advertising business? They are selling premium devices that consumers more than willing to fully paying for (instead of being subsidized by advertising in some way), and they are already making money hand over fist. Using the iPhone for advertising in any way makes me feel the iPhone is less than premium. Why would they risk pissing off their premium paying customers?
Your argument makes sense. Use the existing supply to satisfy the demand to prevent new supply. But the existing material was made by exploiting children and I cannot stomach allowing this material to exist. Perhaps CG material could be used as a replacement.
They did destroy themselves in 2008, but thanks to the Fed and the US govt bailouts, they were saved. Now they're bigger, more powerful, and more destructive than ever. Note that Bush started the bailouts at the beginning of the crisis, and Obama continued them. So essentially you have a two party system where both parties have the same policy on the financial system. Yay for democracy!
That was the exception to the trend, and Intel got severely punished for their mistakes. That's about the time when AMD gained market share with their platform supporting DDR2.
But if we switch back to paper, we would be creating massive carbon stores. I know what we need to do, we need all governments in the world to increase bureaucracy. With the amount of paper we would all need to store, we would be offsetting our CO2 emissions!
And don't forget the move to e-mail from snail mail. Also, computer equipment has been getting faster, cheaper, and more energy efficient every year. I would bet that the Internet has been steadily improving the bits/Watt every year. And think about the huge energy savings when most people switched from desktops to laptops, where energy consumption all of a sudden became important. Greenpeace is way off on this one. I think they've been smoking a little too much of the green.
A friend of mine argued this advantage of the imperial system. In construction, the foot is very convenient for because it's easy to divide into 3rds and 4ths. This advantage is outweighed by every other disadvantage. Like why is an Imperial pint different than a US pint?!?! BTW, that means that in the UK, your beer is bigger than the US!
Deflation helps savers and punishes borrowers. As saving rates are really low in America, and America owes China and Japan huge amounts of money, it's simply easier to inflate away the debt. Not that this is the right thing to do, but I can understand the motivation to inflate.
I have never had to deal with an American ISP, but I suspect that Canadian telecoms are worse than American ones. I recently read a financial article that said that American telecoms need to follow Canadian telecoms to achieve better profits. ie - charge more, provide less. Canadian telecoms are world leaders in monopoly power abuse.
Piracy is a HUGE competitor to iTunes. With the Internet nowadays, it is impossible to have a monopoly on music distribution. The RIAA is just too stupid to figure out that they should use their huge music catalog and start their own store.
Yeah, but think about those bastard aliens who are pirating songs from radio signals. They should pay up too. You have to consider the GDP of the universe!
Have you read how many people were murdered or starved to death under Mao? It's far more than Hitler and Stalin put together. However, I have to say that the current Chinese government is doing a very good job industrializing their nation. I'm not sure that any other way would have pulled so many people out of poverty. Of course they have a long way to go, but they have a billion people to deal with.
I would bet the computer would explode if you ran the lyrics of a Bloodhound Gang song through this software.
The solution would be to come up with many regulations
I'd rather see very few smart regulations that would achieve the same thing without adding so much cost.

Re-read the comment you dummy.
You still exhale CO2, you environmental terrorist!

Let's face it, Bush and Obama are part of the same party, just with different names.
So you think that a large portion of people have the time and will to do this? I doubt it.
Canadians and Americans don't know what choice means for telecommunications until they go to Europe or Asia.
Science is absolutely not a competition.
But it's the sign of the times. Bright people are lured into finance, rather than science, for the big buck they can earn at Goldman Sachs.
I beg to differ. Bell is very competitive in providing poor service.

I disagree. It takes a lot of smarts and hard work to steal trillions from the working class.
