  1. Re:NS on Natural Selection Mod to get Sequel, Source port · · Score: 2, Interesting

    Hi!

If you havent played it in a long time you might get disappointed. the NS community is very much split up about the changes the developers did to the origina gameplay. They optimized it more and more for fast clan games meaning that the play time was reduced to games under one hour. By these changes the original RTS- (Real Time Strategy - like Starkcraft as FPS) style of NS suffered alot and the game lost much of its complexety.

Ahhh.. those were nice times when NS games lasted up to 3 hours and the loss of the marines armory building was a big tragedy and could turn the game completely around. Now the loss of an armory builing is just a joke and you just build a new one.

Summa sumarum: IMHO it didn't get better and you can see that working by fewer and fewer people playing NS. I had stopped playing it for these reasons and playing it now from time to time to see if something changed to the better.

  13. Cheating Death on Do Anti-Cheat Systems For Online Games Work? · · Score: 5, Interesting

We are running six Half-Life (HL) servers with Counter-Strike and Natural Selection Mods and have found that Cheating death is the best viable solution.

Valve (the makers of HL) are offering their own security engine but its almost worthless since it gets updated rarley and it is aimed to detect cheats only.

Cheating Death on the other hand is aimed not only to detect but to prevent cheats (for example by moving the things you arent supposed to see anyway (player behind wall) to the players back). Because of this Cheating Death can't catch a cheater but his cheats are becoming useless. In addition to that Cheating Death is updated very often and so it is able to prevent most cheats.

    Conclusion:
A anti-cheating engine that isn't updated regulary is almost rendered useless in a long run.

Because its not glorifying for the circumstance that you did something for your country but that you killed people. If you want to be glorified then help people with problems in your own country. I bet there will be alot to do (like in every country there is). Serving your country can be done in many different ways but shooting other people or dropping bombs on them arent the thing that should be glorified. Its a shame that even for self-defense you have to do this... it should never be a pride. History shows us how big the desaster can be if glorification of violence, pride and eventually dumbness are working together.

  15. Re:I don't know about you... on America's Army - Development, Impact Analyzed · · Score: 0

    Well...

an army for _self defense_ is okay (as last ressort).
The problems are the limits of _self defense_.
Theses limits are getting softened everytime a nation is getting threatened in one way or the other.

My thinking of "banning army commercials" is founded on the danger of glorifying the army (which is happening alot in recent and older times) and by this glorifying blood, tears and war (even if it wasn't meant that way)

Calling and using the army should be the last ressort... unfortunately it is not happening that way.

Sometimes i have the feeling that only by glorifying the army some people can stand the pain when someone they loved died in country for some oil and faked mass destruction reasons.
