Decoding from, and then re-encoding to mp3 degrades the quality of a song signifigantly. A good example of this is recompressing a jpeg file.
Save an image as a jpeg, then open that file again, saving it as bmp or png, then once again open the file, and save it as a jpeg. The new jpeg will look quite bad. The same thing happens to mp3s when they're re-encoded, or any other lossy format for that matter.
Firebird has nothing to do with this, it's a service built into Windows. It's not MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger, it's just called Messenger. It's used to send alerts to clients over a network.
"In short, HTAs pack all the power of Microsoft Internet Explorer--its object model, performance, rendering power, protocol support, and channel-download technology--without enforcing the strict security model and user interface of the browser."
If fifteen percent of the people entering your store shoplift something, do you just spend your time throwing them out, or do you consider that there might be something wrong with the way your business operates?
Forget a bit, why not purposely 'corrupt' part of the movie? Not a whole lot, just one or two frames out of the entire movie. Something not really noticable unless you're really looking for it.
Personally I think benchmarking programs of this kind are outdated. I could really care less when the ATI Radeon 12500XTS gets 100 more 3DMarks then the GeForce TXP xi5000 Extreme. What does that matter?
What matters to me is real world performance. And by all means, let the companies 'cheat' in that area. If it takes away little/no quality, and makes the games I play faster, more power to 'em.
As odd as this sounds, I've noticed it myself; though I never thought it could be related to the flares. Everyone I know with some form of broadband has been bitching about download speeds, even my local college's T3 is running like crap. Though I'd blame something local before I blame the sun.
You seem to hate the government alot. Why don't you simply leave? No one is forcing you to live in this country, you're quite free to leave any time you wish.
If one of my CD's becomes damaged, the game will start to screw up. If I try using a backup of said game CD to prevent this, the game still becomes screwed up.
Of course they're going to replace damaged CD's for free right?
Can anyone tell me why none of these mobile ARM processors, such as the StrongARM, Xscale, etc, never seem to have floating point processing capabilities? Is it due to power contraints, or is it something else?
This thing reaks of Virtual Boy..
Adam Sandler - Ode to my Car
Found it on some shady mp3 website back in '97 or so.
I nominate this for the best comment ever posted on Slashdot.
You're forgetting the costs of recording equiptment, marketing promotions, etc..
Let's make that estimate 44 cents shall we?

Not everyone likes to pirate music. Some people would love to buy a song on iTunes and be able to listen to it on Linux.
I agree, it's great. It's extremely customizable, has active developers working on it, supports Vorbis and FLAC out of the box, and it's free.
None of that skinning crap either, full native Win32 GUI.

How many Libraries of Congress can it transfer per second?
I don't know, I might be crazy. When I first looked at the topic of this story, I read it as 'Viagra Arrests Man For Spamming'.

Yeah, right..
Most portable mp3 players also support wav as well as mp3. The Rio Karma supports FLAC, which is a lossless audio compressiona codec.
There's nothing like the consolidation of two evil companies.

Nope. I'd invest some money on a security guard.
How can they tell if you're skipping the ads or not? For that matter, how can they tell that you're even using a Tivo?
Also, why does this not apply to VCR's? I've always fast-forwarded through commercials with a VCR. I don't see advertisement companies crying.

How about a port? In my opinion, the Axim would be a great PPC to port Linux to. It's loaded with features, it's dirt cheap, and I'm sick of WM2003. :)
Seriously though, does anyone know the status of a port to the Axim?
Oh the drama..

..that they don't confuse metric and standard again.
Isn't MS still on a drive to create the ultimate MOS (Monolothic Operating System)?
No, they accomplished that task eight years ago.
What if you are American?
