5 years, not unreasonable, guess its time to switch my laptop. Any recomendations for a distro? Dell Latitude LT: 200mhz PI, 64mb RAM, 4Gb HD. Also drivers for a WPC54G wireless card? I wouldn't mind switching my laptop to linux, but i'm thinking its going to be a pain, i couldn't even get Knoppix to boot on this.
None of what i said is bullshit, but you are correct also, the forced metabolism of sugar AND alcohol by your body will accelerate the depletion of B vitamins and make the hangover worse.
From: http://rupissed.com...
A hangover is caused by a combination of the toxic by-product of alcohol metabolism (acetaldehyde), dehydration, and Vitamin A, B (particularly B6) and C depletion caused by the chemical action of alcohol on your system. The symptoms are usually a dry mouth, nausea, fatigue, dizziness and headache and are caused by a combination of these factors.
Apart from the obvious toxic effects, you should realise you're suffering the effects of a mild overdose of a depressant drug and your nerves are reacting accordingly, and you have also flushed a signifnicant quantity of vitamins and nutrients from your system causing a degree of metabolic shock that your body is struggling to compensate against. This is why hangover symptoms often include disorientation and "the jitters".
Some drinks give you worse hangovers than others due to the actions of impurities called Congeners. While it's the ethyl alcohol (ethanol) that gets you drunk, amyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, propyl alcohol, and isopropyl alcohol is also found in most drinks to varying degrees, and the concentration of these Congeners will go a long way to determining the severity of the hangover.
Vodka and gin (clear liquors) are generally lower in congeners than whisky, rum and bourbon, due to the filtering process involved, and hence usually give a less intense hangover. Unfortunately the congeners also give flavor, smell and appearance to alcohol.
Another contributor to the hangover is the "freshness" of the alcohol since the natural oxidation product of ethanol is also acetaldehyde. Finishing off an already open bottle of red, or drinking beer that's been in the boot of your car for a week, will provide you with a ready made supply of acetaldehyde so you don't have to wait for your liver to make it in order to have a really good hangover.
IIRC 98SE is the most polular operating system on the planet. I have 2 boxes and a laptop at home, all networked, the older box and the laptop (PIs) both run 98SE fine, and i have my P4/XP box when i need to do more than surf and IM.
An EMT friend of mine (not a doctor, but still) informed me that a hangover is caused mostly by dehydration, as you mentioned, and vitamin deficiency. Alcohol dehydrates you and with that also saps out all the water soluble vitamins. He said a surefire cure for a hangover is 2 ibuprofin, like 5 multivitamins and at least 2 summerfest cups(su of mesurment for milwaukee) of water. Its worked for me pretty well, got pretty trashed wed night, took vitamins before bed and felt pretty good in the morning (well, i didn't get up till late afternoon). Also as you mentioned, impurities are also a factor, cheap liquor is a guaranteed hangover. Spring a couple of extra bucks for Kettle 1 instead of some cheap vodka and your head will thank you in the morning.
Amazon has partnered with lots of brick and mortars, toysRus, target, office depot, and if you go to borders'(brick and mortar bookstore) website, it turns into amazon.
Aerogel is sort of a silicon foam, originally developed on the shuttle, IIRC its the least dense/lightest solid material. Its also nearly transparent if formed right, and is used as an insulation between window panes and i think i heard about a jacket or vest using the material.
Some theories hold that the crucial organic materials for life, the amino acids and other things that eventualy became organic molecules, came from comets bombarding the planet in its early days. I dont really know the specifics though, IANA molecular biologist.
My manual inline 4 has smoked some assholes in, i'm assuming 6 auto, Cameros not to mention many a rice boi. It may not be a BMW, but the (pre '99, dunno about the later models) SOHC version has 150 or so HP stock, not bad for a very light compact car. 0-60 in 4 seconds and i'm still in 3rd gear, still wish i had an SRT-4 as an above poster mentioned. Mmm, factory turbo...
I saw this trailer friday before Return of the King, and was confused at first because i thought it was another "comercial trailer" for the next resident evil movie until the end when they flashed "three laws" on the screen. This isn't the first trailer of its kind, as i mentioned there was a very similar trailer i saw before Underworld for some product from the Umbrella Corp., so i assume theres a sequel to the first one coming out sometime.
Well a MMORPG in the dune universe would be interesting, you would still have WMD. You could completly leave stoneburners and other nukes out of the game, citing the great convention etc etc, but if you remember, lasgun + shield = atomic rivaling explosion. You could do it during the tyrant time when shields were banned, but that was a pretty boring time for humankind. Still, if someone made a decent dune based game it would be the only one i'd consider picking up. Galaxies seemed interesting, being a SW geek too, but i waited, thankfully, to hear that it sucks.
Use risk pieces and rules, but make your own board. Use a US map and go by states, or any other sort of map with about 40 some sections.note:a standard risk board has 42 territories, 48 states works well, but less border strategy, also for continents, north east, south, south west, midwest, west coast and northwest, i think you get the idea...
Families playing board games may be rare, but what about geeks getting real drunk and playing risk or monopoly. disclaimer: i do NOT recomend playing monopoly drunk...
"hey, how about a quick game before we get to work on the editing, its only 10"
"sure"
...
"man, what time is it?"
"6"
"shit!*throws board across room*"
Yeah, the movie sucked big hairy donkey balls, but grandparent poster was talking about the more recent mini-series on sci-fi, which, IMHO were pretty good. This and this.
If you want asimov theres a movie adaptation of I Robot coming out next year. And hey, guess what, starring none other than Will Smith!*points and laughs as you curl up on ground in fetal position*

Oh come on, the mini-series were pretty good, better than the old movie definitly. And loaning the dvds to people i've gotten a few really into the dune books.

Windows really isn't all that bad.

Thats why a proper geek has a chair with casters, or like my chair, full sized scooter wheels (100mm) that can make it through deep carpet.

Tux blasting clippy and balmer and such, i remember seeing something about it on here several months ago.
must've been posted the first time on the leap second, so it no longer exists and had to be reposted.

Someone ports OS X to the Xbox, fitting, isn't it.
i've had trouble writing aps for my phone because i cant read midlet without giggling
They're probably still pissed at us since one of the viking probes landed on top of their king.
Just curious, did you hear that from somewhere or Come up with that yourself or did you read one of my old posts about metric time?
Yeah, it makes a quarter in about 13. I've made some modifications. Intake and exhaust mostly, a bit of tweaking of the engine too.
