I mean, is it really that much harder to make a virus that silently installs itself and listens for key strokes, then sends those back to you through a few cracked proxies? And there you go: account numbers and passwords.
You mean like the thousands of trojans+keyloggers which have been around for ages?
All these things can also be done on the SPEs. AI, audio, certainly work the SPE can handle easily. Feeding the video card? I don't know if the SPEs can handle it or not, but don't forget this CPU is pretty strong as it is and can do that too.
Indeed synchronization is heavy, but that's exactly why there is the "core" Cell CPU. Its main function is handling the synchronization between SPEs.
However, parallelization seems adequete for games. Atleast AI and physics can be handled seperately, in parallel, due the sheer number of elements that these areas incldue. For example a racing game, each car's physics can be handled by a different SPE and report back to the main CPU each frame.
While I certainly agree this works well for single player games, such as Zelda or MetalGearSolid (which btw does have a subtitle), it's hard to make it to work in games which are very competitive and based around balance between the warring factions. For example, you can't radically change game style in a fighting game since fans are will find it hard to adapt to the new features and usually these features aren't really important for the gameplay anyways. For this type of game, the companies prefer just tweaking the characters to keep the balance and try to perfect the gameplay. While it is not innovative, it's a noble cause imho, since they work more on gameplay and replayability, which is the most important thing in competitive games. Ofcourse they also enhanced the audio/visuals, but that is certainly not the main goal -> After you get used to the graphics, you only really care about gameplay.
Which is exactly where Nintendo is headed. They will be offering a good, while relatively weaker, console which will allow playing of all your classic games from a downloadable online library.
Last time i've been to one of my friends, he pulled out his old NES from the box and we had a good time playing some Crystalis, Zelda, Mario3, DuckHunt and such.
This is exactly why I think Nintendo will actually have pretty good sales. I believe their new console won't be as pricy as the XBox or PS3, but will offer more gameplay over graphics, as they usually did.
The only thing Nintendo hasn't released yet is details about their controller. Don't be surprised if it'll include a zapper/powerglove or some super-tilting-virtual-reality-gamepad.
Indeed. But both Sony and MS hype their consoles, because they are fighting head-to-head. The only company not hyping their console is Nintendo. They know they can't compete with the sony or ms, but they usually deliver more than what they promise and are quite profitable.
I still believe tho that this generation of consoles will be a very interesting, but I hope the companies won't go all out graphics like in PC games but rather think more about gameplay.
It would seen a better fit for the DS. Lemmings is a game that is controlled best using a mouse. The DS stylus can act as a mouse, so it seems lemmings on DS would be a perfect fit. The second screen can be used for the map and other areas of the world. Maybe have a shoulder button swap locations between the screens, so you can play on one while still paying attention to what happens on the other, not needing to scroll and miss the action.
Check this out (from TFA, emph mine):
"The problem is that the iPod only works with either songs that you buy from the on-line Apple iTunes store or songs that you rip from your own CD's."
"The problem is that the iPod only works with either songs that you buy from the on-line Apple iTunes store or songs that you rip from your own CD's."
She said the iPod only accepts iTunes tracks and songs she ripped from her CDs, but not from OTHER stores. That's what she's complaining about! She doesn't care that people rip music from their own CDs!
What does the DS have now? All the new games for the DS and all the games for the GBA aswell, and that's a huge library!
I haven't bought either so I can't really compare, but the DS apparantly has a much better battery life, while the PSP has a much better screen.
Something to note is that the DS is not the new GameBoy, it's a completely different setup. Having the stylus makes it closer to a PC with a mouse. One of the upcoming games, iirc, is a version of Age Of Empires.
No. The common belief is that Episode 4 will be better than Episode 3. The new hope is then that episode 3 will be better. I believe we all hope for Ep3 to be great (except for the SW haters ofcourse).
I disagree. The fact you can just pickup the controller and a random character and seem to play reasonably is actually a good thing, it means the game is forgiving for newbies. But button mashing can only get you this far. An experienced player will block impact or parry your attacks, cancel your throws, play mind games through fake moves or high mobility and throw so much pressure on you that make a mistake after mistake and even give him enough time to finish you off with style using some unblockable.
What I agree though is that the game is much more offensive than defensive.
Don't forget the XBox 360, also based on CELL technology.
But what's more important, from what I gather, is that the cell architecture is very scalable. That means you could take your PVR, music player, toaster or whatever, connect it to your PS3 and gain more power.
A new game needs more power? Sony/Microsoft sell a Cell extension pack. Profit!! But also not needing to buy a completely new system for more power.
Argh true. :
Every keyboard I use has the backslash in different locations. How can I use LyX normally without easy access to the backslash?
My favorite placing of the \ is just to the left of the backspace and just to the right of the plus/equals key.
Where's yours?

Recipe for evil:
Insert one human/family pet into deep frier.
Where do I get a human pet?

That's what happend to some people I know... ;)
They came to linux out of curiousity and stayed there for the games
A friend of mine apt-got a game pack for his ubuntu and the number of good games is surprisingly large.

Hey! Don't give Hideo Kojima any ideas.
Not to mention that the density of prime numbers reduces as you enlarge the numbers (iirc the number primes up to n is an order of log(n)).
Because of this, it is possible to reasonably factor numbers made of primes of up to 200-300 bits.

So what?
Or ripping music from your CDs!

No need to disable javascript.
Just unmark Options -> Web Features -> Allow websites in to install software.

Indeed, most likely I got confused. Thanks for your input.
Still interesting both consoles will be based around a PPC, either directly or using CELL.

Liar.
Results 1 - 10 of about 25 for "episode i was a good movie". (0.35 seconds)
As most players state, the real game only starts when you hit level 20.
Levelling up to 20 is a matter of 20 hours of playing, it's pretty much a "tutorial".
