create several fake passport accounts
search your favorite P2P network for stuff like credit card.xls financial ect, the idiots who share out their entire drive, purchase a laptop, and a wireless card, with a range extender...find an access point and purchase stuff, having it shipped to an indiscrete place with the fake idenity, rinse repeat...
yeah, low maintainance.....i remember when i had to clean my mouse's balls all the time...they'd always be getting dirty, running around the countertop, dragging their balls on the ground...
yes, i've often toyed with the idea of making an article on my friends website, hosted on his 256k shared dsl line, and then posting to slashdot, no matter how many times it would take to get it on the site...imagine the recourse! it would be slaughtered in seconds
oh man, the submission didn't provide much detail, so i did something i, and most other/.'ers don't do often, i read the article, it's really intresting, some of his opnions may be biased, such as saying AG was the best, but atleast he provides some reasoning for it... what he said about the RIAA was very intresting, about how they claimed that they weren't doing a very effective job at blocking songs, but making filters is very hard, and the final way, with checksums on the first megabyte of mp3's was an ingenious way. i'm starting to feel that those who infringe on copyrights are hurting the P2P systems originally designed to share non copyrighted data, that's just trying to find some limelite. i agree with what the RIAA is doing on focusing more on the users who are sharing copy right infringement, i also feel that they need to question the user as to whether he owns a legal version and is just excercising fair use. in anycase RTFA (article) it's really quite good
why would you want them to consolidate, competition and all is good, right? anyways, i was forced away from ICQ and into MSN, which means i needed a windows box just for communication amongst friends. my friends are not that tech savy and all basically jumped on the MSN bandwagon after getting pressured by hotmail...so i had to leave the better product (IMHO) to use microsofts inferior product (seems to be a trend of their's eh?) it's a bit offtopic, but i tend to gripe about it at any chance, especially to my friends.....about 20 of my friends use ICQ, and 60 or so use MSN, the 60 include the 20 who use ICQ, and i'm a resource scrooge, so i just couldn't justify having two messengers open....
i can see this being a step in the right direction. with all the problems revolving around paypal, i hope that ebay can resolve it making it a service that's more responsive to complaints. i only hope that they don't make it an ebay only thing. think of the revenue they'd gain if they keep it open to everyone!
not true, the temperature difference (on average) between now and the ice age is only some 7 degrees IIRC, but i have no idea on which scale that was measured, it being a scientific paper i was reading, i would assume kelvin
i have over 5,000 mp3s, just because i have that many doesn't mean they're illegal though, are they going to search the P2P networks, and track people down, then audit them for no reason, what's to say i don't own all of my music and have a nice digital copy to avoid cd swaping? this is bunk...i don't share my mp3 directory, because it's illegal, however, as previously mentioned, many people share their entire drive unknowingly.....i think they're overstepping the fair use boundries, i also thought putting the annoying clicks in the cd was overstepping, it's great to see we have a politician fighting for us
if we all go back to smoke signals, we wouldn't have these sorts of things, it's great communication for disasters, they can't hound you with advertisements....and most of all, we can use spam to fuel it, not just the spam mail, but burning the people behind the spam alive...yes, a nice fiery inferno, and we could dance around it and celebrate...do you think IPoSS will work (internet protocol over smoke signal) with a non-return to zero encoding scheme?
That would make sense. I should have included an IIRC, but I swear in the press release that I read, you could have the extra devices. However that could be wrong, I followed links around the aforementioned article, and the MSI board with the new KT400 chipset has 12 serial ATA connectors. It is possible I misread the press release and thought that you got more devices by chaining them together....oh well
not too mention that you can have more than two serial ATA devices on each controller, effectively eliminating the need for raid enabled boards that take 35 seconds to POST
You're exceptionally ignorant, even for the general population. Let alone a slashdot reader. Peter Jackson didn't name the movies, J.R.R. Tolkein, quite some time before the world trade centers. I'm devestated about the WTC too...devestated at the amount of terrestrial espionage and internal strife from an outside conflict. I'm devestated that we still have to talk about it. I'm devestated that the patriot act shreded the constitution. Most of all, I'm devestated by the stupidity of people like you, it was tragic, but it happened, punish the guilty and get over it.
that's about 1/7 of the world population. That figure drops below that because most people who have bought a computer have bought two computers, we'll assume that 1/2 of all computer users have purchased two computers dropping it to 1/14 of the population. from there we'll have to consider how many people there are like me. i've gone through about 50 computers. and then we'll also centralize the computer sales to the less third world countries, since we're on slashdot we'll bitch about american centricity, from there we'll do another economic cut on the number of computer sales, cutting out the lower class citizenes who can't afford a computer, now we'll cut out the hicks who don't know what a computer is, we'll drop the middle class citizens who don't feel they need a computer. Now, by my logic, I own every computer on earth, and also the internet. The internet is half own by Al Gore, whom I contracted to design it but wouldn't sign over his IP.
I don't think that counts, because we don't have any malicious intent. We just want to read the news which they have chosen to make available, so what if a bunch of people want to do it at once, with or without slashdot's help.
But if some vengeful geek were to post a my website hosted on my cable modem in an effort to kill my connection, then I might get pissy.
I'm such a hypocrite. I can't stand how cynical and anal most of the slashdot readers are, atleast the ones who post flames and trolls that get +(integer) funny. The post shouldn't be taken so seriously as an ask slashdot, but more of an awareness bringer. When reading it ask yourself how many developers have signed IP contracts with previous establishments, then asked to resolve similar issues? On a note you should warn your employee's, then ask your own lawyer.

i agree, it's a solution to pirates, a free OS on hardware, you don't have to worry about assembeling your PC, and you don't get stuck for the bill.....i get so much more out of building my own computer, and i'm sure if i built a $500 system, it'd be a hell of a lot more machine than this microtel....
