> we sure as hell wouldn't want the FBI catching CRIMINALS, because the FBI IS EVIL!
"I don't care about this terrorism act, that only effects guilty terrorists"... Interesting precedent... what do you do when saying anything anti-government becomes an act of terrorism. "Kill the king" can get you shot..... then imagine what happens if the oposition gets into power and you voted for the guy who lost...... and the FBI logged who you voted for, after all, the FBI are only there to catch criminals.
Sound far fetched?... Ever copied a video tape? We're all guilty of something.
I disagree, after all the scammer was willing to pay the inflated price for the 'notebook', and the folder was a work of art, created by the author. I don't think it'd be hard to argue, that even though the raw materials only cost $5, the artwork created by them was easily worth $2000.:) Besides, I don't think the government would've complained about the extra tax they got.
Hasn't everybody known if you rip the door off your microwave and put it on the roof of the house you'll disrupt all free wireless transmissions in the neighbourhood.
2.4GHz cordless phones are just as effected.
This is hardly something new? I don't understand why it's even newsworthy.
Here's some news for tomorrow:
A bug exists in DHCP where people can DoS it by stealing all the IP addresses in your scope with this new program which asks for an address, changes it's MAC, asks for another. etc. -- It's almost impossible to tell where the person is in big networks without tracing through your switched infrastructure.
It's simply not news. The designers knew this was possible, it was too difficult to fix and as yet nobody's been bored enough to exploit it.
I used SFU version 3, and unless 3.5 has been _drastically_ improved; it's worth every cent of $0... and nothing more.
It's worth the download just so you can read the manual and look at the limitations... Install it and you can find the beauty of your windows 'Nobody' account, Primary groups and the like.
SFU is a tool to aid *migration*, a short to medium term solution. Running it in production is going to cause the sysadmin some major headaches.
I haven't heard about visual artists complaining about photocopiers.
Art was never a career. Get over it.
I haven't seen a successful busker who's playing a CD and expecting money. People need to *WORK* for their money... if you're a musician, that means concerts, or selling out into advertising.
Did ford get sued by the horse and cart companies?
My standard server install script enables the guest account, puts it into the administrators group, and enables Terminal Services. It makes them much easier to remotely administer.
Now I hear this can cause open relaying and security risks??? NO!?? You must be joking. Bloody insecure microsoft, how dare they make a product so open.:)
This is silly, exchange 5.5 and exchange 2000 don't ship with "allow users to relay if they authenticate regardless of if they are in this list" checked by default. Systems Administrators need to enable that feature specifically.
Also, The guest account is disabled by default.
Saying exchange servers may be relaying because of this 'bug' is like saying linux is insecure because you can set a blank root password and enable sshd to accept connections as root.
"I did not want to hurt them, I just wanted to kill them"
Dearest sir, I only fear you if you are alive; and you will only retalliate after I have made the first strike.
I'm fearful of snakes and spiders... this doesn't make me less inclined to fuck with them... it makes me more inclined to ensure I kill them with my first strike.
Don't get too comfortable on your high horse there, there's an old saying from the streets... "You may be bigger than me, stronger than me, and fully capable of beating the f*ck out of me... But nobody argues with my good friend Mr. Winchester"
With an attitude like that I won't be at all suprised when you loose a couple of major cities to nuclear winter.
Not all americans are like their leaders we see making asses of themselves to the world.
90% of them don't even know where Australia is. (That's like, down near perl harbor isn't it?)
I sware I've actually heard one properly pronounce "nuclear".
I only hope the 10% who do actually know Australia isn't a town in Texas realise we didn't actually want John Howard as our leader, and we hate him as much as his bum-chum Bush.
Here's two questions: Should they? and: Why should I care?
If I buy a washing machine, and it fails to wash my clothes, I get my money back. That's called a gaurantee.
If I go and watch a comedy, and it fails to entertain me, Do I get my money back? Where's the gaurantee? Where's the incentive for the MPAA to provide a good product?
Well, my answer is: Most of the time what they produce is shit. Not worth my money. Hence, I don't pay.
You're welcome to disagree.. You're welcome to pay. Freedom of choice my friend.
But we can shut it down by getting to the source...
No, really. We can. Just like John Connor did. He was right all along. Believe us... or, better, see the film. (At the cinema. Without a student discount. Please. That pirate copy is a poor rip off. Don't watch that. You're only cheating yourself, It'll give away your personal information... to Microsoft.)
Yeah.... try a --help on any of the programs. oh, didn't work? okay, man djbdns nope, still no luck. Well, there must be a logical documentation of all the features on the website... nope, just a bunch of howtos.
Great stable software... pity about the documentation, support and overall useability.
Oh that's right, it's the OSS way. "I'll build it, everybody else can work out how to use it and they can do all the shit work I don't want to"
I had an 8086 laptop -- It was definatly before the 286 days, it ran word perfect.

It's easy to forge headers, everyone can read your email, it's stored on public record, and sometimes ISP's delete it for no reason at all.
GET OVER IT!
You work at a bank don't you? :)
Bush also said he could win the war against terrorism, and that it's completely unlike the war against drugs...
It's not really lieing as such, because he believes what he says... but just because someone says something, doesn't make it true.

Unlike the Open source community, when the average user has the ablity and the knowledge to edit someone's poorly written C and patch it themselves?
oh, wait... they rely on people reporting the bugs too.
Sorry, not saying it's a good process, just saying you're fucked either way.
wow, 10USD per hour... life must be tough.
The average family wage in australia is $10.50 USD per hour. ($35,000AUD / 2000Hours * 60c)
Tell me, how do they cope?
How to secure windows:
Put it in a room with physical access restricted.
Unplug any network cables / modems.
Done.
Here's your answer: They don't.
Here's two questions: Should they?

Is the theft of your personal information worth the free movie?
Since my edonkey client is reporting a max user count of around 1.5 million... I think the people have spoken.
YES IT IS!!!

Wow, It's times like this I'm happy I'm not a sysadmin for a DSL service provider with heaps of customers with 827s around. ... oh wait.
Boss. I'm at the pub.
The RIAA's only flaw in this is they believe they rule the world.
If they were unsuccessful in ruling out spammers, which, EVERYBODY hates... what chance do thay have for illegal music, which many love.
You're still not going to stop that old 'move it offshore' problem.
Glad I don't live in the land of the free
Why was Saddam invaded shortly after demanding America start paying for their Oil in Euros?
Now *that* is an interesting question for another day, which you won't hear about on CNN.
When was the last time you saw a UV lamp on the counter of your local maccas?
