    actually if you looked far enough with a strong enought telecscope - wouldnt you see the opposite side of earth since you would be viewing it from the opposite direction you are looking into space?

    check out Maxtor's 250GB drive - its still 5400rpm. Samsung also still has a good number of 5400rpm drives out on the market.

    yea, but they still had people testing to before it went to a releasable beta - after all, it had to be somewhat playable before they could send it you to those 10000 testers.

    why do people always say tape drives are slow? My tape drive writes about 170MB/min and restores at about 300-400MB/min (its a differntial scsi drive) yes, they are expensive, but when you by data quality tapes they last practically forever (I resotred data off a 10 year old 4mm tape two months ago no problem). I have recorded CD's that are 5 years that even with minimal use overtime still dont like to be read

    but when you want a certain file from the middle of a tape it sure is no picnic

    do you use some archaic ancient tape drive/software? I am usually asked to restore deleted files from our tape backups where I work every couple of weeks, and it takes less than 2 minutes. Sure its not as fast as copying off a cd/dvd where you just drag and drop - but once the tap restore gets going it moves really fast

    i would've guessed they'd use bitmapped indexing over storing everythign in RAM - but that just my guess. It may be slow for updates - but superfast for queries (bitmapped indexing that is)

    i believe that merely because greed would dictate it - also, if he intentionally destroyed them, the kurds & other rebel groups would probably get more support from the general population. Also think that how would he finance his war if it dragged on and he had destroyed their largest financial assets

    actually the US already has said they don't plan on attacking those since it would make rebuilding the country's intrastructure much much harder. Saddam has also said he has no intention of setting fire to them as he did in 1991 since he claims he would not destroy the wealth of Iraq since it wouldn't be in the intrests of his country.

    know your engineering of the cars - The TEAM is McLaren-Mercedes - but the car is built using a BMW engine - when merecedes teamed up with them they even hired away one of BMW's top racing engineers to help tune it

    Not to mention team tactics. Cyclist who are designated as a "helper" (in Dutch "knecht") is obliged to put effort into getting his teammate into a good position, an action which removes all chances of him winning.

    That comment just made me think of a race some years ago I saw where the teammates were so far out in front of everyone else, that when one ran out of fuel with 1/2 lap to go, his teammate got behind and pushed his car so he could still finish (and still win). How's that for taking one for the team - he could've passed him and won, but would rather have had a 1-2 team finish with him in 2nd, Can't recall which race it was, just that it was the Skoal car that won.

    The BMW engine is much better in the straightaway, however the McLaren is better at the corners

    doesnt that ignore the fact McLaren uses BMW engines in their car?

    The WinNT is also only compiled for Intel platform

    I thought it was compiled and used a HAL written for i386, alpha, and powerpc - that was supposed to be part of the beauty of NT - just write a HAL for an archticture and you could put NT on it

    we nearly flipped on the way to go skiing when we hit a patch of ice

    most offroad designed tires are really bad for winter driving, so that I'd be willing to bet that was at least a contributing factor to that. A friend of mine who had one always hated how his looked with slimmer wheels and snow tires, but made admitted it made it much easier to drive on snow/ice. Still, most I see on the road never swap them out

    What's wrong with the Hummer H2, and what about it would make the buyer an idiot?

    You want to go off roading - but a used Jeep cjX and save about $40,000+

    You want lots of space and 4x4 - get a tahoe - cause its $20,000 less and almost the same vehicle

    you KNOW you're guilty of looking down your nose at whomever because you thought you were smarter than they....

    Based on those two parts, My advice would be to not be so arrogant and not look down on them for not being as smart. I was a nerd in high school, but I also had plenty of social skills and was on the football team (and made all league twice) - I don't think I looked down at any of them because I was smarter than them, because there was always usually at least one thing that they were better than me at.
