    I'm sorry, but I'm a former football player and I think thats a pretty broad and unfair generalization. With an attitude such as that towards other groups, it would make sense as to why you might not get any respect.

    I grew up with Ultima on Nintendo, never really got into it on the PC - I liked the simplicity of the NES versions (III & IV)

    how much would 2.5 terrabytes cost in those 10K SCSI drives?

    probably about $14,000 (17x146GB 10k rpm drives) - dont forget that fcal is also much faster than ata itself.

    probably not so good - and considering you can probably upgrade to 15k RPM FCAL disk pretty easily, I think their 'cost only' comparison on apple's website avoids performace tests for a reason

    The whole point of this discussion is that nobody, but nobody, uses a serial console on their home computer.

    Wow, so the 2 sun boxes I have that I don't have video cards/framebuffers magically let me into their 'ok' prompt via some other way. No serial ports? Please, that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, I use them all the time at home and at work

    If you can find me six people in the USA who are using dumb terminals on their home PC's, I'll give you a cookie

    I know 5 people who use SunRay 100's at home (basically a dumb terminal) - I guess I just need to find 1 more and I can get a cookie

    same thing here in the US - in Texas MCSE's are supposed to call the E 'Expert' or something rather than engineer unless they have an engineering degree

    I just cant agree with that statement - its more a 'drivers written to function better in games' than a better graphics card. The one in the article uses a Quadro FX and I know lots of other people who use a 3dlabs Wildcat series - both of those cards wipe the floor with 'gaming' cards in 3d rendering for things like cad/3d studio/maya

    The government's primary job is defense

    The goverment's job is to look after its people and to do what's best for them. Defense is only a part of that. Things like living conditions, enforcement & creation of laws, education, are also parts of that.

    I dont know about that - neither of them is something I would call a person of high moral character. One of the problems I see is dubya's supporters seem to think if you dont like the job he is doing or dont agree with his views, you are unpatriotic, and that is one of the things that angers me most.

    claiming you 'need' and SUV to get high in the mountains and for being able to tow stuff is crap. No offense, but if that was such a big deal, you'd have a high torque diesel - which only comes in pickup trucks (and hummers, but they are an exception).

    most vehicles most people can afford get the same gas mileage as an SUV. whats the diff?

    You really think things like a RAV4 or CRX or Ford Escape have any real towing capacity? They are the ones that get the same gas milage, and I wouldnt trust any of them to tow anything.

    Seagate drives have the new fluid bearings, they haven't been the fastest on the block for a while now, what makes you think this one would be different?

    Methinks you have never looked at seagate model ST373453FC - 3.6ms seek & 15k rpm - sure its not meant for a PC - but shows seagate can still make them pretty fast. Good points on the other stuff about SATA

    The drives can be slid into protective cases or hot-swapped bare - a vast improvement over the bulky boxes required for current parallel IDE drives to achieve even warm-swapping.

    and those of us using SCA drives sit there saying 'nice to see the rest of the world is finally catching up'

    one thing I really liked about google over something like yahoo was yahoo no longer lets you submit businesses to their directory for free, while with google, I was able to not only add it free - within a week I no longer needed to use quotes for the name of the company to have it be the "I'm feeling lucky" result - feel free to check it out for yourself - search for charger films

    reminds me of the old 20mb western digital one I still have sitting in my basement. Those were the days - where when it went bad - you mailed it back - they fixed it, stamped on the outer casing which blocks were bad, and mailed it back. I still keep that thing beacuse its hysterical to look at (has about 1/2 the capacity of it marked as bad)

    netra's are cheap even when relativly new, so are used ultra 2's (ultra 2's really just sit in the shelf on the racks rather being truly rackmounted). If not ebay - check out some sun resellers of used sun boxes - sunresale.com is the only I can think of off the top of my head, but there are lots of them around

    I have a bunch of computers running in my basement running random things and testing out network stuff - so I've had quite a few to test with Here's my take on it:

    Drives I own made from 1992-1997: 6
    Number of those that went bad: 2

    Drives I own made from 1998-2002: 4 Number of those that went bad: 2*

    * - a 3rd developed a chunk of bad sectors but still works fine

    probably have better luck with a bmw V12 - smaller displacement of it would make it easier to fit. Don't think it can be done - check out this guy's k-car - bet he's made a few people feel stupid getting dusted by it

    I was at least glad in the Fast and the Furious - the only car they were "scared of" was the big ass '70 charger which was setup to be a real drag car.

    Some people just don't understand going fast for cheap.

    GM F-bodies (camaro/firebird) are cheap to buy and there are more sbc 350 aftermarket parts than any other engine in the world - always thought it was too bad that they got a 'white trash' image or maybe it would've been them instead of civics

    depends - you can get fiberglass body panels for those old muscle cars too to lighten them up - I've seen a '68 charger with a 528 hemi that only weighed in at 2900 lbs - looked stock on the outside except for the rear tires (interior was gutted though), and could run 8 second flat quarter miles naturally aspirated (low to mid 7's with nitro) - supposedly got 900HP on the dyno

    D. VOIP is moot as cell phones are becoming increasingly better and cheaper. I can call anyone in the country from anywhere in the country as part of the minutes I buy every month. Why would I want to step backwards to be tied down to a land line (ie: Net connection)? I don't.

    You obviously have never made international calls with your cell phone and seen the bill. One of my friends lived in Europe for a year and paid 5 a minute to call back to the US using VOIP - his cell phone company charged him $1.50 before that, and even with the international calling plan, his POTS line there charged about 50 minute.

    about as much time as IE for Unix got - maybe a little more. Heck - I even installed IE for unix when it came out, but there were already other things I was used to using that did just as good a job, and I am pretty sure it will be the same for me with wmp.
