The attitude among security professionals toward critical infrastructure, regulation and working with the authorities after incidents can best be described as laissez-faire, maybe even lackadaisical.
As a self-appointed representative of security professionals, I have to balk at this description. Many security professionals are under incredible pressure. If, after a harrowing incident, they take some time to frolic down by the old Mill pond, perhaps take a roll or two down Mr. Jenkin's hill, or even skip through town while eating candy corn or gummy bears, well who can blame them? The incident was harrowing, after all.
They PROMISE to get around, eventually, to addressing the infrastructure, regulation and authority issues. But it's so warm and sunny outside. Why is it always "Work, work, work" for you, anyway? Have you never been happy?
take a look at the frickin' mess of an interface on this thing! Yeech.
On a separate note, why are they putting off until a later firmware update the ability to view pictures and listen to music at the same time? Shouldn't that have been one of the top priority jobs? Shouldn't they wait until they have that done?
you'd see that PortalPlayer's prototypes were kludgy, ugly starting points. They had parts of the hardware down, but it only would have sold to geeks. Apple brought in their reference design, redesigned the interface. Apple made the whole package work and work so damn well.
Just because Apple didn't make the parts doesn't mean they just "purchased" the iPod.
Their design team came up with a great concept, found people who could put it together relatively inexpensively (and in an extraordinarily quick amount of time). They have managed this project superbly. Everybody else (both in the MP3 player market and in computer field in general) had access to all of the elements that Apple did. None of them came close to putting together anyting remotely as functional, stylish, easy (and they still haven't)

But it may be encouraged by the success of a Japanese company that recently created a Boyfriend Arm Pillow - for women who miss being hugged by a man at night.
So, the men have virtual girlfriends on their phones, the women have arm pillows instead of boyfriends. Is it any wonder the birthrate in Japan is so low?
Unconsciously Desired Email Industry (Our slogan: You opted in in your heart!), I'd like to strongly protest the continuing escalation of technology against us. We provide the opportunity for hundreds of thousands of people to spend freely on products unburdened by simple heuristics of "they work" or "they won't make you ill" or "we'll actually send them". Why are you so intent on interfering with the consumer ethos?
That doesn't constitute a monopoly. It's a good head start with most of the race ahead of them. For Real (a company which has time and again shown it's contempt for end users) to act like Apple is an evil monopoly for not licensing to them is ridiculous. Real is a non-starter that is desperate to try and be part of the game. I'm avoiding them like a bottle of Perth Pink. This is not a company for buying from. This is a company for laying down and avoiding.
explicitly for trials of OSS. And in the end, they suggested a mix of OSS and proprietary software. They just pointed out the elements that would be more secure, effective and cost-efficient as OSS. Hardly villainous behavior.
The Microsoft-funded analysts on the other hand found any use of non-Microsoft software would be both insecure and expensive. They even suggested IE as the browser of choice "because Microsoft is very serious about addressing security concerns". In a world where "Internet Explorer" and security are intrinsically oppositional terms, that is clearly villainous behavior.
The council has an independent consultant suggest mixing OSS and commercial. Microsoft comes up with it's "study" showing the cost/security "advantages" of sticking with Microsoft. The council then goes into high-level, high-pressure negotiations and comes out with a great deal (except for the fact they are so going to be 0wned, big time).
They've set the new template for Microsoft negotiations. Of course, if they actually cared about the community they supposedly represent, they'd have actually followed through with the initial suggestion. But that's asking way too much.

"why not spread gangrene through the system from inside?"
I'd have to imagine that that sounds much more attractive in the original French. Let's see what Babelfish says:

Yes, I was right. That sounds much more attractive. I'd like some, but without the butter.

I agree!
It's not that difficult to do your own take on the mocking movies. They're trying to piggyback on the good will towards the real MST3K.
of the copyrights, the legal presumption is that the copyrights still reside with the original owner: in this case, Novell.
