It's still quite damn sutipid conversion engine which
can be written by animal. I guess MS is employing
monkeys to develop it. Using MS-IME is like pounding
your nail with a hammer.
I use it just because MS-IME comes with my office PC.
It's the reason why I like to write docoments in English
rather than in Japanese although my native language is
Japanese, I have never lived outside of Japan.
The reasoson is NTT Docomo has started to support GSM cmpatible USIM card on 3G phone(it's called FOMA Card). Just inserting FOMA card into GSM phone enables to connect to telephone network. Motion picture, higher data taransfer speed were not enough to persuade me.
I have sufferd enough from dis-compatiblity between PDC(Japan's 2G service) and GSM.
Just new FOMA card has justified cost of transer(approx $230), shorter battery life(40% of before), heavier terminal weight.
Given memory price range,
it's not difficutlt to set up database avoiding
disk access in most cases. As for Oracle,
majority of tuning tips are used to keep
required data on RAM from more than ten years ago the first time I used.
The first step to tune it up is always to
check buffer cache hit ratio.
Fujitsu has 128 Sparc compatible cpu / Solaris server in its line up. Hopefully, Joint effort between Fujitsu and RedHat would improve Linux capability on that front (I mean the capability to harness more CPU). Here is a news release to announce that they will update server line-up with new SPARC compatible 1.35 GHz CPU in an attempt to take back No1 spot of TPC-C benchmark.
Fujitsu's CEO Mr. Akikusa has recently predicted that every chip will finally implement Linux.
The bad thing is Fujitsu is another Japanese company struggling to come back to be profitable.

I personally imagine, SUN will produce Intel or AMD based web-application server board(PCI or something else) which can be plugged into SUN/Solaris box.
Given the fact that application server is extremely CPU power hungry and most component are made by platform independent Java, designing PCI board to run web application server does make sense and reduce H/W cost.
Looking at Oracle's Application server, only part, which is platform dependent, is Apache itself. All others are Java. Just developing mechanism to load Intel/Linux/Apache code to designated board may be enough.
Solaris/SPARC didn't loose edge against Intel/PC as DB server. But considering price disparity, Solaris/SPARC as web application server platform does not have bright future
I'm Japanese. English is just second langugage for me and it's complicated enough for me.
BTW, I'm using Palm, actually IBM's workpad. It supports Japanes language well and came with english/japanese and japanese/english dictionary. But, it's very small and seems not to fit study purpose.
Palm OS machine sold in Japan has some HW enhance ment to make input Japanese compfatable. Missing them could make experience painful. I have used old Palm machine sold by US robotics w/o such a enhancement. It was still usable but far less than what I have.
My vote will go to Sharp's Linux, I have never seriouly used it though. Linux is Linux, anyway.I have used for almost 8 years. Since the first day, I can input/edit Japanese without any problem.
# Acutually there were small problems, but always # they exists.
I have seen the article in Japanese Newspaper reporting same announcement like, http://www.asahi.com/money/topics/TKY200303290203. html(sorry Japanese only).
Linux is on topic, but in the same time TRON-OS is also mentioned as a candidate of standard. There is another article that API of TRON OS could be merged into Monta Vista's Linux.
It's simply misunderstood. interpol has no substantial troops. Zenigata is dispatched by Japanese Police to investigate Lupin under the cover of interpol. His ID cards are issued by Tokyo Met. Police "è¦è¦-å". So it does make sense than it looks.
"åY¼çZçoeOEè¦" should be written in police car.
But problem is we can't know how he is solving jurisdiction problem.
Goemon is a descendant of famous and historical thief Goemon Ishikawa who lived about 400 years ago. Detailed information have been already missed, but some legends remain and very popular character for Japanese.
Zenigata is a descendant of Heiji Zenigata which is cration of Detective Story written by Kodoh Nomura. Both Heiji Zenigata and Inspector Zenigata are very well-known.
If you are in urban area of Tokyo, it's no problem to gete ADSL. I have 12M ADSL w/ 2,000 yen. Effective connection speed is up to 6M, though, in comparison with a friend of mine's experience in California. I have no complaint.
# The not well-knows fact is Area of Tokyo Met. includes most desolated islands in pacific ocean. be careful.
Some DSL provider are servicing VOIP phone service with very discount rate to call US(1.5$ per hour to call US in my case).
The problem is to get service by English. Every DSL provider is very domestic. The very recommendable first step is to look for Japanese speaking friend knowing ADSL.
ADSL is very popular in Japan. Most of my friend has moved from dial up/ISDN to ADSL. but it depends on segment and industory.
Sorry apparently you are saying actual knowledge of Japnanese language.
Most Japanese are able to complete newspaper.
I speak both Japanese and English. Completing English newspaper is more difficult than in Japanese. Yes we need to learn a lot of Kanji Character but it gave us edge to increase vocabulary, as character iteself has meaning. Contray to this, english vocabulary is really confusing.
How you can know mare means female horse without dicitionary.
STRATUS was doing almost same thing w/ cheaper MPUs and their propriately OS VOS/K. I have used it almost 10 years ago. executing one command simultaneously in two CPUs, comparing command, discard CPU unit if it fails.
While I don't know exactly what they are doing and supporting, I'm guessing they are doing same way w/ newer machines. STRATUS may run on XEON.
YES, Mainframe is great. It supports a lot of function I can ever imagine but it's too pre-mature all excellent features of Main Frame is beyond the reach for all other category of computers.
it's the reason why Japanese economy is in serious trouble for many years. When government officials are so stupid to include MS reps in order to study open source, how can they turn economy around?

Obviously you are the happiest guy I have ever met. I, personally own Toshiba TECRA to run Win2000 and its uptime is very miserable. I have just used it as just web browsing but it crushes very easily 1) when I'm using Mozilla 1.1 or 2) when to resume.
Operation like pushing reload button causes BSOD.
The last thing to say, your uptime can't go beyond 497days. The bug which prevents w2k machine from up and running beyond that date exists.
As for your friend, please check JENS(http://www.spinnet.jp/service/indexe.html). It costs 2000yen per month with unlimit dial-up connection. Service points are available in Okinawa. JENS is former ATT world service and its service is available in combination with NTT and a few of other ADSL provider.
I'm not sure your friend home is covered by ADSL provider, as Okinawa is relatinvely rural are in Japan. Unless ADSL is available, please give hime an adivice to try wireless flat rate internet connection. Services are provided by brand name "Air H"", or "P-in Compact". line speed is 128K.
New standards are introuduced just recently. I don't follow up these detail. but they
are called Annex.C and Annex.A.ex.
They could be HDSL or VDSL although
I don't what they exactly are. Everybody calls
12Mbps service as ADSL. As for service range,
provider are claiming 12 Mbps service range
is almost same as 8Mbps. I'm just a mile
away from POC, so I don't care much about
service range.
There is a diagram between linespeed and
distance from POC here.
Sorry for poor information.
Really? it's a new knowledge to me. Thanks Fool.
We will need to re-define what the word "traffic accident" means that day. Even pedestrian way will not be safe.
