I think its great that everyones shifting over to LCDs, that way I can keep buying 21 inch CRTs for 35 bucks. Nothing like a 6 monitor array for Unreal tournement 04. With this many CRTs it lowers my heating bill in the winter and gets those infared equiped growlight detecting helicopters hovering overhead in the summer.
Isn't this the same group of companies that have been producing shows since the advent of the VHS recorder? I have a feeling that just the absence of new restrictive anti copying laws wont stop them from producing shows. This argument doesn't really have the ring of truth to me, TV is what they do what are they going to do stop producing shows and convert their companies over to real estate or something?
The federal id system as proposed is a continuation of the process by which the government has been seeking to destroy the underground economy and stratify society to an even greater degree. The id system combined with the coming cashless society, educational divide, locking in of resources from the elimination of the inheritance tax can only end in a resumption of the feudal system or something very much like it. When our economy crashes (who thinks the current walmart economy can really last?) the elimination of the middle class will be complete. At this point the plan put in place by the patrician class will have come to fruition and their power will be unchallenged.
Say what you want about Dan Quayle he at least had a really solid plan for space exploration. And although he had his problems ( a few, ok more than a few,this post is about the message not the messenger:) this was the only espoused program that would have really had a chance to "get us off this rock". He at one point even talked about the "conversion" of 1/2 of the military budget to the space program (who would do that now?) we need to take this seriously, it sucks being at the bottom of a gravity well..
Its not like MS can win a fud war against a free / quality product, this they showed Netscape. MS can slow Linux adoption but this by itself wont stop it, but if they combine a campain to slow linux combined with patent blanketing and file format lockin they may be able to marginalize linux.
This has always been an option for ISPs. I can see keeping IP info for a week or so in case there was an incursion but after that the only thing that it could be used for is informing (whether it was coerced or otherwise) on your customers ! As customers we must demand that our ISPs no keep long term IP records. There are plenty of options to connect to the internet and we as consumers must tell our ISPs that we will make this an important part of our bandwidth purchasing decision.
Hmm, one form of welfare has people sitting around watching tv and surfing porn the other keeps Americans working and keeps up our tech edge. I choose the latter.
What we need is a version of knoppix that looks just like windows (or a way to choose between the various os looks so that your screen will blend in with the other cafe surfers)

Its time to crush this 30 year old unholy alliance between the IRS and the 3 party tax prep companys. The tax system has become like the legal system - a systematic exploitation of the American people to keep an elite in business, in this case IRS agents and retired IRS agents.
Isent this having the desired effect? I mean thats whats is for isent it? To keep the unwashed masses (or washed as the case may be) out of IT as much as possbile. That was why latin was chosen for the church sort of like a private code that only the initiated could understand.
