If there are any Internet governance structure changes in the future, I think government rules will be more important and more respected."
Um no.. as all governments inevitably trend toward maximum control and subjugation of their citizens, it is every citizens right and duty to oppose information control as information control is the method by which populations loose their freedom.
As a thinking christian (as opposed to the new moronic version of christian) I really despair of this childish rejection of reality (science). Religion has lived with the reality of the world around them for a very long time. I believe now in this time of deep denial about the changing landscape of America and an uncertain future that the more unstable elements in many sects see the rejection of science as somehow bolstering there own flagging faith. A faith that if real in these people would easily be able to encompass science as a wonder of God and not a challenge to him.
Why arent governments proacting agaisnt these nets
on
Over a Million Zombie PCs
·
· Score: 5, Interesting
If 1,000,000 computers can be identified as being zombie machines than 1,000,000 computer owners can be contacted. This is THE major problem afflicting the internet, why dont governments form a unit to identify and at least notifiy the owners of these machines? Will it take a major internet terrorist attack like bringing down a power grid to make governments act?. As net users we should advocate government involvment in a measured controlled way rather than the reaction that will come after an attack (patriot act?)
Perhaps we will get some action now on dealing with the concept patent issue. Piss off enough of the company's that actually (unfortunalty) run this country and they might have to fix it despite themselves.
(IMHO,IANAL)
"With all the hype surrounding the recent release of MSN Search, are the search engine wars heating up?
No, the "hype" wars are heating up, untill MSN Search can be trusted to return non slanted results (ie limited linux results) there is no search engine war.
Hubble is on its last legs even with a mission it will still be on its last legs. Do you really want to risk a shuttle flight just so you can get a few more months out of old hardware? Jeez even the new groundbased telescopes like Keck outperform Hubble. Choose fights that mean something.
you print out a heart with an HP does that mean that HP owns the copyright to the heart? That's if I read my EULA right.
Please don't sue me I have no money and ment above as satire.
newspapers, tv's gonna kill the newspapers, the internet is gonna kill newspapers now its one little corner of the internet is gonna kill the newspapers. They have done ok so far they have changed they have adapted just like the rest of us. Just as long as they dont try to patent the "Idea" of classifieds (newsprint is kinda like software right?).
I've always wondered why they never put a little bottlie of compressed nitrogen on the rover with nozzels pointed at the panels. Press a switch on earth and pffftt! dust be gone!
This program is way awsome but beware if you use this to access your paypal account and paypal sees your ip as coming from outside the US your account will be closed and you will lose your money.
Ahh the great leap forward
kinda sounds like the Chinese equivalent of the 90's tech bubble (although the
tech bubble didn't have that whole widespread famine thing)
Its pretty strait forward, small to medium broadcasters have no access to the media. I don't see collage or local access radio having access to XM anytime soon. Right now its not too bad because there are alternatives that people with am/fm receivers can hear but when satrad becomes mainstream access is gone.
of a captive audiance, once again media outlets are using thier money and reach to completely control what people (at least that segment that listen to radio) hear. One source one view one world.
I beleive that there are international laws against displaying photos of prisoners of war (laws against what was done to them as well of course) so it might have been legal pressure from various non US sources.
Another thing that will draw the congresscritters to muck about with copyright (as if the induce act wasn't bad enough). I'm sure that one of the RIAA's checks is being written out right now with the note: "See we have to fix this whole limited time loophole or the evil pirates/terrorists will jeopardize our business model"
Unless there's some really radical new method of powering vehicals, I just don't see anything really new in the future for vehicals. We've had over 100 years of powered vehicals and they all pretty much follow the same pattern 4 wheels and some doors, slathering on new features or electronic controls is just a new way of marketing the same design over and over. Also speaking as a pedestrian I don't think "pedestrian recognition systems" is a good idea.
I have come to the conclusion that anything that has to do with money on the internet will eventually be hacked and exploited, why should gambling sites be any different?
"the question now is what, if anything, should be done with it?" Is it just me or does anybody think the answer to this question would be better arrived at by the US government than the "Other" people that would be interested in the device?
I can just see HMO's putting my bypass out for bid. The lowest common denominitor is that the consumer/employee will be smashed and that's what will happen if companys are allowed to pit them against each other.

more people will be killed by cigarettes today than by the wave.
