    US dollars are backed by nothing but the whims of the federal reserve, and it's this very fact that has brought about America's current financial predicament.

    It is also the very fact that created the largest economy in the world and brought this country to where it is today...which really isn't all that bad of a place despite all the doom and gloom you hear in the media.

    I really don't understand why people think things like wind, solar, and nuclear power compete with oil. They don't. If wind, solar, nuclear, fusion, or other future technologies progress to the point where electricity becomes very cheap, then people will start powering their vehicles and heating their homes with electricity, not oil. That's where I see the competition...

    Selling your own bank account number to someone else illegal? That's an interesting thought. Could be fraud against those wanting to steal from it... but IANAL.

    It has to be more than selling your bank account number...that's printed on every check you write, along with your full name and address.

    What is it that they are buying? That info with SSN? Online bank login info?

    you forgot to read the first line of the summery. These aren't typical users, they are developers, they are supposed to be working with the beta.

    ...and on top of that, they are not able to restore through itunes.

    Since the iPod touch is an iPod, and not a PDA, and since those features were not there to begin with and everybody who bought one knew that if they bothered to to do any research first, isn't $20 a small price to pay to add those features if you want them? Are you forced to spend the $20? Did Apple claim those features were there to begin with and then charge people $20 to get them?

    No, those features were not there to begin with, but people who go to the store today and buy the exact same model get those features for the same original price. Why punish the early-adopters?

    99.9% of the world isn't using his ipod, he is. Let us have our own damn folders. I have some soundtracks and compilations that have 50 different artists with one song each. When I scroll through my ipod by artist, I don't even recognize half of them. On my computer, it is quite clear which artists I listen to the most because I have set up the folders in a way that is most convenient to me. Is that so hard to preserve?

    Have you ever actually used Level II? If it was that simple to predict where a stock is going, then you could get very rich very quickly. Unfortunately there is too much manipulation by the big boys. Level II does indeed show the current orders, but they disappear just as quickly as they appear. You might see Goldman Sachs with orders to buy 50,000 shares and think that it is going up, but 10 seconds later there's Goldman on the ask with 100,000 shares. They are constantly moving orders around to hide their true intentions.

    These states ban sales of new cars that don't pass the California emissions standards. Here in Maine you can still buy a used diesel car, or buy one out of state and register it here. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

    Ignoring the sheer difficulty of doing reverse-lookups from phone number to address (which is made intentionally hard, for this very reason)...

    Sheer difficulty? If you type a listed land-line number into Google, it will display the name and address associated with that number.

    Not always. Frequently (enough) the expected payout goes above the purchase price. This is especially true of the big ones such as PowerBall.

    True, but purchasing the winning number does not guarantee you the entire payout. It is split among everyone that has that same winning number.

    But its obvious, from the make of the quarter, that this thing has been out since AT LEAST 1999, because they're using an ancient quarter with an eagle tails side. They should at least use a quarter that's in circulation

    Yeah, all quarters from 1999 or earlier have been removed from circulation. Good luck finding one.

    Also you could scare folks in amusement park rides making them think they are about to crash into stuff.

    Yeah you could also put signs before the ride saying "this ride is safe using smokescreens", but during the ride they actually crash really really hard into stuff.
