    schools are very very easy to find, just look for a parking lot / a field of some sort in a non-commercially zoned area.

    but honestly yellow pages is more of a threat than google maps.

    i grew up in an area with pretty decent drug usage, never did them. the reason being, my parents taught me about drugs and their effects. by taught i dont mean 'be afraid of drugs!' or any of that dare crap. it was explained to me how they worked and why they didnt want me taking them. we also read some historical data about events that had high drug usage.

    point is, dont count on the government to protect your kids for you, do it yourself.

    one of the old passwords on a server i managed was m37gt19s. typically i make passowrds by typing random letters and numbers with my eyes closed. then shorten the most complex part of the sequence to the password length needed. for trivial passwords, you just store them on paper and in digital format in a lock box. and by digital format i mean , external drive. pda with sd card, etc.

    so your saying google had a search engine that the chinese didnt block and then all of sudden google started censoring it for the chinese?
      i could see if
    1- google is operating in china freely just fine
    2- chinese goverment says " we want to you to censor your results now"
    3- google complies
    but as i understand it, its more like
    1 - google was operating globally and was blocked by the chinese firewall
    2- google approached china and negotiated on what they could do to operate in china
    3 - china said censor this stuff, google said hmm ok we'll do it BUT we're going to tell people its censored

    now tell me how you could do that better, and by better i mean better for the chinese people. i guess oh we just leave them with yahoo / msn that dont even mention results are censored. or better yet no search engines!

    a welder and a chem engineer are 2 totally different fields. in software this would be a software engineer and a graphics designer. a software engineers spec is not going to be implemented by someone outside his skill-set, thats what makes it so different than other fields. and i think you'd spend just as much time checking joes code as it would take you to write it yourself.

    everyone follows that rule in technical situations making the best with whats there , no offense if we said oh it must be morally perfect or not at all for everything. well we'd be no where, and remember the chinese goverment only has the power they do because americans buy their cheap stuff. else they'd be just another north korea or iraq pre-war. so unless you dont buy stuff from china at all (this is possible though hard) your part of the problem.

    china's power to censor and control is directly reliant on its economic power. they had to pay cisco yes? and i bet a pretty penny. which you and i helped fund.

    and then apple would destroy their image overnight. Apple has built things around "it just works". even if you tell people "hey this wont with X", they will try it with X and when it doesnt work say your software sucks. not the hardware you told them it wouldn't work with.

    I mean jeez we work in IT we should know that.

    razor blades == simple operating systems == complex there is no technical reason for generic razor blades not to work with gillete razors. however there is a technical reason for os-x not to work with all hardware. people pay good money for os-x and expect it to just work, they do this with windows xp too. now you see the advantages of software focused for hardware. also apples public image of just working is worth much much much much more than the minute market share they would gain from people like you.

    well you have the freedom to go make an OS just as worthy as os X and put it on whatever you want, and make it run on whatever you want. just as apple has the freedom to do what they want with what they make. when their freedom infringes on your freedom you have a valid reason for complaint.

    one problem there, your prepaid phone has some sort uid. now i just need to get that uid via rf scanning ONCE. at that point i just have to tap the cell phone and you will have no indications of the phone being comprimised.
