One thing I found out recently is that the tabbrowser extension plugin for Firebird comes with a very serious performance hit. I used to install that immediately every time I installed firebird and I just thought Firebird was slow. Then someone told me he thought Firebird was faster than IE and I was thinking "what??". So I uninstalled the tabbrowser extension and sure enough, firebird is an extremely fast browser. You may want to check if you have that installed.
The problem I had with the extension is that every page came with a 2-4 second hang in which the entire UI stopped responding. This was a SERIOUSLY annoying problem, and I was almost to the point of switching to IE when I found out what was causing it. *whew*:)
But my whole point is that they WILL get caught. All it takes it one sysadmin to trace their spam back a virus-infected computer. And using viruses to spread spam (or using viruses for any other purpose) is clearly illegal. Even if the company being advertised can't be prosecuted ("we just contracted out these people, we didn't know..."), they will still lead investigators to the people who created the virus. It's just too risky.
The "illegal" things you just mentioned are illegal businesses(/scams), not illegal distribution methods (except maybe the porn one, but that's very hard to enforce these days). So far spam laws have been pretty weak and rarely enforced, so there's not much to lose by doing it. But with viruses, there's no doubt that it's illegal and there's a VERY good chance that they will be investigated/prosecuted.
There's plenty of good music that comes from people who can't sing. I can imagine technology like this greatly improving the diversity of music because now people who can't sing well naturally can still make good music.
I'd much rather listen to someone using one of these with original, creative music than listen to someone with great singing talent, but singing crappy cookie-cutter music.
So let's start putting this in the hands of the creative people who can't sing.
I don't think many businesses would want to be associated with a virus spam scheme. Even if most people wouldn't know it came from spam, the truth would come out eventually, and that company would be investigated, and then whoever wrote the virus would be found (and jailed). This would be a horrible plan for any business.
I'm prefectly ok with watching a movie that is unrealistic, as long as it's SUPPOSED to be unrealistic. Sci-fi, comic-book movies, etc..these are all meant to be kind of an alternative reality. It's action movies that pretend to be realistic that piss me off. I can't sit through a movie like that.
Exactly, and this is pretty ironic considering the complaining MS did when they tried to hook into AOL's servers. They would link the servers and AOL would close the hole, then MS would find another way around, and AOL would close that one, and so on...
Now they'll pretend that never happened and act like people trying to circumvent their protections are some kind of criminals.
I'm not sure when you tried gaim last, but you might want to get the latest version. They've made a LOT of improvements in the past 6 months, including a switch to gtk2. It's pretty stable, it looks MUCH better, and it has a lot of features (useful ones, unlike most of the aim ones).
The windows one last I checked (which was admittedly 4 or 5 months ago) may not be up to par, but the linux version is great.
Riiight..I don't think cross-platform is on their mind. Last I checked, the Linux version of AOL IM was horribly out of date. I don't think the Mac version is very good either, but I can't say for sure. Open source has been the only way to go for IM on linux for a long time now.
A breathalizer doesn't have the same rules. Failing to allow a breathalizer can be enough to get an automatic fine for DWI. At least in Texas. It's like an admission of guilt (according to the law).
"My word against students'" can't be addressed simply by the administrators trusting the teachers. With the huge amount of lawsuits being filed against teachers I think this will become more and more important. In a lawsuit, your word is likely to be less valuable than the child's (regardless of how right or wrong that is, it's true). If you truly are doing nothing wrong, than cameras can't hurt. So think of it not as the admins not trusting you, but as the admins wanting proof for the courts should you be accused.
I think your last comment about sums it up. I don't know where those numbers came from or if any of them are legitimate. I haven't met anyone who would listen to online media streams and don't have either realplayer, quicktime, or winamp. I think people who don't know how to install a program are also unlikely to be listening to streaming media. It does happen, but it's not the target audience.
Am I the only one who doesn't know who Salvador Dali is? This is probably in the article, but...you know...who reads those anyway?
You left out:
Friday September 12, @03:58PM: Server goes down due to unusually high traffic.
I think the problem is that bringing an outside magnet near the MRAM will corrupt data, not that the MRAM will be corrupting other things.
Oregon trail...I remember that...I never could finish it...i always had an axle break or something retarded like that...hmmph...

And it was scary...*shiver*

Maybe not legit, but so far they're legal. Using viruses for spam is not legal and it's easily traceable back to them.

So I'm not sure I buy that explanation.

Ex: Bad Boys 2...drove me nuts!
Is this becoming the latest /. karma whoring method?
Is it just me, or has this been posted before? Or does Microsoft just do so amny stupid things that it all just blends together?
Yes, that is what I meant. Thank you.
I can only see 3 schools listed. Why post the article if we have to pay to see more than 3 schools in the list?
Am I missing something?
What does James Bond have to do with debugging??

Ah, ok. That makes sense now. That is indeed retarded.
It's not possible that they BOTH killed their father?? How so?
