When my mother bought our computer with windows 95 on it she didn't know much about computers. So a couple days later she comes in and gets mad becasue the My Computer icon was named My computer, she thought I was laying claim to the computer. I told this was standard, seh wouldn't believe me, So I changed it to "A computer", and she walked away happy.

It's really sad that with all the great expanded universe material out there, Lucasarts is sticking to making games based off the movies. I for one love Knights of the old republic. That is based 4000 years before the movies. And then the are the books. I would love to see a game based on the New Jedi Order books. But no let's play on Hoth and Tatooine again.

He wasn't commenting about Seattle traffic he was commenting about Washington State and the tendency of its lawmakers to override the voting results of its citizens. Another good example of that is the citizens voting for a reduction in the price of vehicle licensing. They had that in court within a few days of voting. The funniest thing is that Washington is always complaining about the taxes lost from this. But then they let Boeing move out of state without much fight. I wonder how much tax revenue that lost them.

No freaking kidding. I was at the local safeway about an two hours ago and every doofus in the place was on his/her cell phone. One guy was even bragfging to his friend about how he just peed in the woman's restroom. He was coming from the direction of the toilets so it made me wonder if he was using in while pissing.

Look at the price of a videotape versus DVD. I can understand that right now DVD do cost more to produce but in 5-10 years the opposite will be true. But do you think DVDs will drop in price to the same level as videotape. I seriously doubt that. And the extra features added do not add that much to a DVD experience, much as I like them. I forsee the greed of the MPAA by keeping the price as high as it is.

  11. Re:Finally the great question is answered... on Hilary Rosen Defeated at Oxford Union · · Score: 5, Interesting

    You so sure about that?

The real question about the recording industry is do they have calculators?

A tape or lp at the time of the cd switch was far cheaper than an CD. But now that CD production is more efficient the cost should have come down some. But it hasn't. Cds are still in the 16-20 dollar range where as tapes at the same time were in 10-12.you think that cd's would have dropped?

Why don't we buy CDs? Because the price is prohibitive. On top of that the RIAA has made no friends with fans with the crackdowns and wacky copyright protection schemes.

Now the MPAA is doing the same thing with DVDs. And you know that the DVD won't drop either.

  16. Re:Don't bite the hand that feeds you! on Cracking Down on MP3s at the Office · · Score: 1

Basically that was my point. You work for a company. They aren't required to allow you to surf the internet or download software/mp3. It is work and not a nursery school(although sometimes it feels like it).

MP3 and video do take up a lot of bandwidth. You allow people to download and your bandwidth for actual work drops and work suffers. I know this from something I did. I transferred a file from one facility to another and the bandwidth went into the toilet for both.

And what if a peice of software you install screws up the computer. That computer is down for a while. Or worse includes a virus. And it infects the network( unlikely but the company has to consider the possible and try to prevent it).

You want Mp3s at, work buy an mp3 player. At least then they can't bitch about bandwidth and the RIAA can't bitch that your company is encouraging piracy of its property.

  17. My company's policy is to fire on Cracking Down on MP3s at the Office · · Score: 2, Interesting

My company takes a hardline view on anything to do with the computers. The IT guy who was running a pirate software and mp3 server was quickly dismissed. And even the few who have installed software have been fired. We don't have the MP3 problem because our computers sound drivers are disabled by admin. If someone was industrious enought to enable them it would be pretty obvious what you did and would quickly be without job.

Actually the 10Gb iPod lists on http://www.apple.com as $499.00 and the 5Gb lists as $399.00. I therefore used a linear forecast to detremine that a 1Tb would list at $20,299 (a little cheaper). Still, a little out of my price range.
