Well you can get programming data for most (all?) Canadian tv providers, the catch is that you have to buy the Tivo hardware in the States (or over ebay or the excellent site http://www.weaknees.com/).
Keep in mind that the series 3 Tivos should be out soon*.
i didn't mean to imply that true hardware raid controllers aren't worth it. they are, in some cases. it's the fake ata raid software driver based cards that aren't worth it.
Okay I'll ask, does anyone have examples of 'true' hardware raids? What about the Promise FastTrak cards? I would like to buy an ide raid controller card to do raid 0 and was considering one.
Project seems to be on the back burner, it was written during the 2.2.13 days, and includes a mod of the xawtv package, and only seems to work for North Amercian cable. FORTYoz you still out there? Anything you want to add?
I agree with many of the posters that if it 'ain't broke, don't fix it'.
However, over the short term what we will see are refinements. The wheel mouse is an example. The mouse was a great idea, but the wheel has become for me (and certinly alot of other people I know) a necessity.
Longer term, sure, the 3d world is fun to play in, but unless it provides a compelling advantage over the 2-d wimp interface people will not use it. Do you need a 3-d environment to compose a letter? Not really.
The command line interface provides a very effective way of getting things done, indeed provides a flexibility that is difficult (impossible?) to replicate in a GUI.
There is room for refinement of the CLI. There was a project a while back that was attached to Mozilla (I think) that presented a CLI that you could double click on a html in the window and the file opened in a broswer. The idea that I like is the transperancy btwn the CLI and the ability to concentrate on how to get at the files.
Another annoyance for me using common switches for example, personal example that drives me nuts:
ssh -l username server
ncftp -u username server
Maybe I am the only one, but I always messes me up. (u user, l login, but conceptually very similar...)
About time guys, congrats to all involved. I don't know how many WEEF (Waterloo Engineering Endowment Fund) meetings I have been in and we have given money to Midnight Sun. I was sorry to hear about the mechanical probs last year.
Of course the Mop and Pail, er Globe and Mail have details on Queens, typical. Oh and who did the CBC interview all race? Queens.
Enough of that, good job guys and gals, you deserve a few drinks at the Bomber for that race!;-)
I stumbled across this message board where the guys and gals at maxPC were testing the waters and asking for letters to the editor. I submitted the link to/., but I guess it didn't qualify as a story, it really didn't have much behind it.
I hope that it will have the same quality as BOOT had and that MaxPC has now.
If they do publish and it is as good thier other mags this is a great thing for the community and I'll be first in line for subscription.
I was at Ottawa too, the guy in the sailor suit was actually in the US Navy... Hmmm. One of the guys dumb enough to register as a CSE was a friend of a friend (no really) and I felt bad for the chump, everyone was either avoiding him or acting -really- paranoid around him. Come on the CSE only collects the info an gives it to the NSA anyway.
Interesting cross section of people at Ottawa anyhoo, and anyone else see that cute blond that was that was there? Come one you saw her too, Ouch.
I apologize for this not answering the question asked,
but I have been pulling my hair out over the past week trying to coax php to compile on my rh 6.0 box. I installed the latest MySQL rpms from the MySQL website, the freetype rpm, the apache, and apache-dev rpm, ran./configure -options and then tried to compile the php, and got to make where it promptly spat out a [language.tab.o] error. I am going back to use the source files for all the apps to start all over again, but I would be very appreciative to hear your install details.
I use the xmms and irman like Rob, and it works great for me. I also have a couple X-10 units and use the X-10 remote with the irman. Only thing that doesn't make sense to me, there is no mute for the xmms plugin, wierd. I don't have anything to do with the irman, but best 40 bucks I spent. Your milage may vary.
It should be noted that PC World Online has no independent confirmation that new Back Orifice 2000 program actually lives up to the claims of Cult of the Dead Cow.
Hmmm, if the author is running NT then perhaps one of you cDc chaps would be good enough to give him a quick demo? *grin*
Um, yea. I am aware of the icq clones and mp3 players for Be, but you completely missed my point. The market for AOL is the consumer, to whom brand names matter (for better or worse). The point that I was trying to make is that AOL wold have Branded s/w to port to what ever platform they end up on. It just so happens that they chose Be and it has some great software already.
As stupid as it sounds, the consumer market would rather using something mainstream, that they may have already used, rather than learn some new software, no mater how trivial the differences are. And in the case of the iToaster, it is not clear if it is possible to add software to it later or not.
I think that it is a great chance for Be to show off to the world how great it is, I know if it is $200 I will buy one. But this is bigger than Be, this is about AOL and it's consumer market. Hope this makes my ideas clearer.
Okay now I understand why AOL bought up ICQ and WinAMP. These are very high profile and cool apps that, at the very least, every University student uses. They aren't going to make any real money from the apps, but what if, what if, they bought them to insure that they could port them to what ever platform they decide to go with for thier AOL software. Not only do people who buy the new platforms, like the iToaster, get AOL connection, but the also get ICQ, and winAMP (therefore MP3s). Now the storage options aren't clear, but this is a pretty good strategy, and BeOS could be in the right place at the right time.
People get the internet and what amounts to brand name, popular apps that they are familiar with. And AOL gets in the door and in this case on the set-top. Just some thoughts.

What does this really mean?

not digital, it's too early in the morning to be posting...

Is there a 12 step program for Geeks? The fact that I find that hilarious says volumes about my social life! Help!

only two: blueberry and tangerine?
i'm disappointed; i was hoping for a gray. too bad.
Yeah, I was looking for a gray/black model, a little more sleek, for those of use who don't want to look like we are typing on a VW Bug.
Well I guess we can hope that new colors are introduced later in the year, that or get some paint... hmm paint.
