    averaging 3 yrs per job myself. If you get along OK with the hiring man or general manager (in my case) during the interview and then follow through with good performance, the contents of your resume will become less relevant.

    That's news to me, but then I have no Deb experience whatsoever. Thanks, I might need to know that someday. As it is, the new-style rpmbuild has similar capabilities, though I like using checkinstall to do it all with one command instead. It's just a convenience issue for me.

    I've used checkinstall with great results for building RPM's from sources. It can do DEB's too, from what I understand.

    Umm, my current Fedora install uses ACL's and IIRC they had them in RH9 too. See man (5) acl, setfacl, and getfacl. Also note that both distros install libxattr and libacl.

    Probably true; long-term for me is anything greater than 5 years, but that's just my opinion.

    They probably do, and I don't blame them. It's one thing to have vendor lock-in, and another thing to have vendor lock-in with a foreign-owned company.

    I'd be very interested in seeing the results of their studies into TCO and migration, published openly after they get done. I think the OS community can use that kind of real-world feedback, and I'm *sure* that other (closed-source) vendors *will* use it. You know, so they can "Get the Facts".
