Not true. Carriers sell locked phones without contracts all the time. I bought an at&t motorola atrix for 600$ on amazon, and bought an unlock code for 20$.
I just wanted to buy it unlocked, but expansys was preordering it on 700$.
Not only hardware and software costs more here in Venezuela when doing a simple exchange conversion, but we have to remember that our salaries are way lower than in the US. For example, a samsung galaxy s3 here costs over 2000$ usd, yet minimum wage is 324$ usd a MONTH, which turns out to be 1.35$ usd an HOUR.
i know that symbian does it, but nokia declared symbian dead with the pureview phone, so i am not counting a "dead" platform (bb will still release os7 phones)
Are you seeing the same review as me? The crackberry review took shots on the lumia 920, iphone 5, z10 and samsung s3. Images on the z10 are the worst on every test out there.
The camera just sucks, and it proves megapixels don't mean squat.
Never mind that they removed push email support from non corporate accounts, don't have pull down notifications like every platform out there, and abysmal 1 day battery compared to previous versions.
No drop down notifications, you only get the LED to watch when the message comes. No push email except in exchange accounts (blame google for lack of activesync in in free gmail accounts). Sub par camera. Don't know if the alarm will work with the phone off (bb phones are the only smartphone that does this currently)
Not only that, the skype UI just plain sucks for IM. No tabbed chats on compact mode, and on regular mode they are vertical and weak, weak notifications, non-functional recent conversations tab and lots more. I emailed them about it and they told me that indeed they were revising their client due to missing features that are already in WLM and know lots of people like/use.
WLM may not be the best or most used out there, but at least its UI works a lot better for IM compared to skype
Seems that Hideo Kojima and the writers from Metal Gear Solid are visionaries. While i understand that guns should be reliable and actually fire when needed, it would be nice if the gun only fired from his legitimate owner. Maybe some exception for the military guns, since that wouldn't work on warfare.
With windows 7, you just anchored the app to the taskbar and ran it with one click. Or you just could make a desktop icon. Much faster than the menu itself.
Metro just hides everything and makes things confusing. Two IE versions?
compatibility mode is for different windows versions rather than architecture. I have a problem with a 32 bit app, i am sure it's not a 16 bit one and doesn't work on win 7 x64, but works fine on x32.
yet %APPDATA% and the user profile is where the data the user actually cares about, so viruses actually do a lot of damage. I don't ware if a virus wipes out Office or some app, i would prefer to reinstall an app rather to start generating the data from scratch.
Same deal on Linux. I wonder why people always gives out the "viruses can't hit / , linux is secure" excuse.
We are in Venezuela, and have branches in 20 cities all over the country. Our wan (frame relay) speed is between 1 and 2 Mbit/s and all users authenticate via active directory on our servers located in our main branch. As you can see, we don't have much to work with.
I showed your post to our servers guy and he was awed. We know what you can make.vbs scripts and get called after the installation, but never something like this.
do you have this process documented somewhere? We are a small insurance company (570 people or so) and at most we use windows deployment services to install via network PXE. We do the backup manually using windows easy transfer.
the real question is that if i can go to a verizon store and buy one without having an account and without contract for people like me that don't live in the US but sometimes visits.
i know that you eventually will be able to buy it online and unlocked at the apple store, but for example in Venezuela you can't spend more than 400$ over the internet in a year.
We are currently considering switching AV vendors from Kaspersky (our license renewal is coming soon). So the boss contacted Sophos and they sent a guy yesterday to install a demo and got hit with this bug.
Needless to say the guy was pretty embarrassed.
I like ESET nod32 myself, but it seems that the administrative console is not as good as Kaspersky (K's allows to deploy software, turn off machines, send messages to users and lots of other non-AV stuff we actually need)

motorola razr maxx has a 3000+mAh battery.
jailbreak and install ncsettings. It's exactly what you want

The real purpose is to eliminate free spam.
Which, in turn, would decrease spam. It may not be ethically correct, but it may just work.

Maybe call it USB SuperSpeed 3.1?
I am waiting for USB SuperSpeed 3.11 for Workgroups.
Funny thing, printer drivers defaulting to A4 and i have never seen an A4 sheet of paper in my life (i live in Venezuela)
Weird enough, i went to the states and asked my stepfather (a gringo) and somehow he uses letter.

it's documented on the wifi service that streaming sites like netflix don't work, so i don't know if someone tries it will affect other users' speed.

it seems you don't remember the simple file copy bug. no one would dare calling it a stable os at launch. Now, at sp2, it's another story.
vista was a new os and demanded more testing that win7 because win7 is built on the vista architecture.

That's irrelevant. All computers are sold with it, therefore it isn't a matter of IF, rather than WHEN.
My bet is that win8 will have more market share that linux by july 2013.

You know there is an iPhone model for free under contract right?
i have 5 pants and wear each one a day of the working week. I pick the shirts on the left. When i wash them, i put them on the right.

Me? Nothing. But if everyone increases their speeds, older/slower ISP's will be forced to at least try to catch up.
I live in Venezuela, and the standard connection is 1Mbps. I can't even watch youtube at 360p any more, and 240p also stops while buffering.
