I see that you don't quite understand the Broken Window Fallacy. Yes, it does apply to the GP's "auto theft is good for the economy" argument, for it is the same argument.
Indeed, car theft is GOOD for car companies. Obviously, the person who has had his car stolen (and not recovered) is going to need another car, which will likely be purchased for him by his insurance company.
If the car IS recovered, theft is still good for the car company. In most instances, there is some significant damages done to the car in the act of stealing it. Replacements parts must be bought.
I presume you're being facetious, but just in case you aren't...
People have tried to tie together mysticism, quantum mechanics, and consciousness before. At best it's an interesting exercise in thinking. At worst it's nonsense gibberish. To my knowledge it's never really produced anything approaching science.
You can say that again. The movie What the #$*! Do We Know? being a prime example. That movie is so farking stupid that I nearly collapsed my left lung into a singularity from laughing so hard....
I immediately emailed the URL to all my friends (plus my sons) with the message header, "New best-way-to-die-ever!". Males responded with "COOL!" and females with catty remarks about stupid daredevil males.
I told them that if/when I'm ever diagnosed with a terminal illness, I'm gonna buy one of these. I mean, if you're gonna die anyway, might as well die spectacularly, right?
'Coz I'm sure it wouldn't take long to die in one of these things....
And I find your refusal to think for yourself even more appalling. Before you call someone else "blind," check your facts. And read Plato's parable of the Cave while you're at it.
But the "right" to not be defamed is not defined in the constitution
And according to the Ninth Amendment, neither are a whole host of other rights. Just because it wasn't enumerated in the first Ten Amendments doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
I don't think we should bash the quality of Mircosoft's code because anyones code can be full of holes when people work at breaking it.
Yeah, I guess that's why OpenBSD is so full of holes...
Apple was long toted [sic] to be virus free. That was only due to the obscurity of the system and people's willingness to write viruses for it.
No, it's due to the design. This notion that all OSen are equally vulnerable and 'Doze only gets attacked because it's the most popular -- is total M$-funded BullFUD and needs to die.
If that FUD were true, we'd be seeing many more compromised Apache servers than IIS -- and even more compromised Sendmail servers than Exchange.
But we're not. And this is because the simple truth is that 'Doze gets attacked the most BECAUSE IT IS THE WEAKEST! Hello????
I don't know about a behavioural psychologist named "Obama", one could name this effect after [sic].
Some disorders, such as syphilis, are named not after the doctor who discovered it, but a patient who had the disorder.
And the shoe does fit: we have an incompetent individual who grossly overestimates his abilities. So I predict that the disorder will soon be renamed in his honor.
the competent group accurately estimated their rank, while the incompetent group still overestimated their own rank.
Across four studies, the authors found that participants scoring in the bottom quartile on tests of humor, grammar, and logic grossly overestimated their test performance and ability.
intentionally appointing foxes to guard henhouses the same way Bush did?
WHAT foxes? WHAT henhouses? Citations, please (far-left sources, bloggers and other mentally unstable conspiracy nuts don't count) or it never happened.
It is NOT the law. The Law is whatever the Courts say it is, and the Courts have been very clear on this one.
Now, you can disagree with the Courts (as I do), but it's still The Law -- and at this point in time minors do NOT have the same Constitutional rights as adults. It has been discussed by people far more learned than you, and decided. Just get over it, OK?
We forget that minors and students are still people with the same constitutional rights as adults. Just because we force them to go to school, doesn't mean their other rights are negated at the door.
Umm. No. While maybe you think that children should have the same rights under the constitution as adults they actually do not have the same rights as an adult.
[quote that isn't even in the Constitution snipped]
Seems to me that includes children (and yes, women).
Seems to me that you haven't been keeping up on Court decisions. While I disagree with the Courts on this issue, the GP is correct in asserting that children do not have the same Constitutional rights as adults.
I see that you don't quite understand the Broken Window Fallacy. Yes, it does apply to the GP's "auto theft is good for the economy" argument, for it is the same argument.

I didn't realize that life could be built from blocks of Application Specific Integrated Circuits. Hmmmm.

There is a direct correlation between piracy and lost sales, I've seen it. Grow up.
There is also a direct correlation between the lack of pirates and global warming.
All of this piracy is saving the planet So grow up and get over it.
... on other lawyers! I bet HE won't be too popular at the next Trial Lawyers' big party.
Why? What specifically is valuable about people who know me? How does who I know affect how well I can do my job?
Because getting a job has almost nothing to do with how well you can do said job, and almost everything to do with whom you know.
isn't it possible that they might decide *not* to hire me, based on the people I know?
...which is why you should be very picky about your connections on LinkedIn. There are several on LinkedIn with whom I shall not connect.
Or maybe it is Atlantis, and it turns out to be run by the same people who are responsible for that face at Cydonia on Mars!
Nah. The place is run by Cthulhu.

A couple of those mountains look so much like Oregon's Mt. Jefferson and South Sister that I started wondering if this is a hoax.
Probably not, but the people all look strangely AMERICAN....
Nah. It's probably all real.
I ran across this item a couple of weeks ago.

...So why name it after a single person who happens to spectacularly incompetent -- AND egotistical?
There, fixed that for you.
The answer, of course, is because it's funny.
80% of all motorists consider themselves being better than average drivers. So why not call it after a person having a car accident?
Because it wouldn't be funny.
I find your willful blindness appalling.
And I find your refusal to think for yourself even more appalling. Before you call someone else "blind," check your facts. And read Plato's parable of the Cave while you're at it.

So, with the exception of Spencer Abraham, he named people with actual experience and knowledge of the industry in question to watch over it.
(yawn)
I repeat the question: WHAT foxes? WHAT henhouses?
So far, all you've provided are examples of Mr. Bush appointing competent people. Why am I not surprised?
I don't know about a behavioural psychologist named "Obama", one could name this effect after [sic].

With a mirror 1.5 times the size of the Hubble mirror....
No, it's 2.3 times the size.
It's 1.5 times the diameter of the Hubble mirror. That equals 2.3 times the size.
Some days, you just gotta wonder about the /. editors' intelligence....
ROFL!!

It is NOT the law. The Law is whatever the Courts say it is, and the Courts have been very clear on this one.

End of discussion.

I bet many people in that situation would be willing to offer a small sample of saliva instead...
I'll give a semen sample! As long as I get some "help" from the girl collecting it....
But, do they really try to force parents to sign their kids up for SSN at the hospital at birth?!?! Why?
One word: Reagan
He foisted it upon us to combat welfare fraud. At least, that's what he SAID the reason was.
So much for "getting Government off our backs" (for those too young to remember, that was the theme of his campaign).
And you know he has a few tucked away some where.
Oh, God. At first I thought you'd said, "You know he has fucked a few [unicorns] somewhere."
Aaaaack! Must... get... that visual... out of my brain....
