Undelete was unquestionably the single greatest feature of netware (circa the 3.1 days) that I've not seen anywhere else.
It's still better than windows for file and print services. I don't miss trying to get the BTrieve settings for ArcServe and Solomon to play nicely together, though.
Ron Paul is actually a crazy right winger, not the salvation wingnut Slashdotters seem to think he is.

There are a lot of Chinese people, and they want their industrialized economy. And, for that matter, so the billion or so people next door in India. That's two good reasons to start looking at whatever kind of mining can be done in space.
The military junta running Myanmar has been doing so, with Chinese (and Russian and Indian) support, since 1962.
In that time, they've wrecked their environment, brutally oppressed dissent, and generally been a bunch of assholes. Why do you suddenly feel bad about it because some monks are involved?
Don't get me wrong. They're evil fuckers and should be wiped off the earth. But you're a little late to the "giving a shit" game, and refusing to buy a laptop from a Chinese run company is kind of like pissing into a forest fire.
Machine translation has been making great strides in the past few years. You might not see it with sites like babelfish or google translate, but some of the upcoming research systems do quite a good job of accurately translating between langauges. The output might not flow as well as you'd get from a human, but the ideas do get reliably translated between languages. I think it's quite reasonable to think we'll see really usable machine translation software in common use within 10 years.
Now getting the computers to understand what's being communicated beyond stupid keyword recognition - that's a big problem.
Linux desktop users are a small segment of the market. Developing tools costs money, and there needs to be a large enough payoff for the development costs to make it worthwhile.
And some things about development of commercial apps for Linux are bit of a pain. What widget set do you use? How do you determine if the appropriate libraries are installled, where does the OS mount devices, what device numbers do you get, etc. Nothing insurmountable, just more complexity than with Windows or OSX.
I've got no problem connecting the physical layer. I'm talking about software that does meaningful stuff with the connection.
I've never seen bitpim, so that's interesting. Unfortunately, I do a bit too much international travel for it to be practical for me to use a CDMA phone. Looks spiffy, though.
Most "smart" phones (and most phones in general) don't have support for syncing with Linux. Try syncing any series 60v3 phone with linux, using even development code and it just doesn't work.
The problem was less that he was wrong, and more that he just reported what SCO said without being skeptical or attempting to suss out how full of shit they were. And from day one, there were plenty of indications that SCO had nothing.
A reporter's job isn't to be a stenographer for whatever anyone wants to say. We have press releases for that. Reporters are supposed to get stories, sort out the various facts, and if someone's feeding them bullshit, point that out. The tendency for reporters today to be "balanced" in reporting on an issue really just means that people with nothing to back up what they say are put on even footing with people who have facts to back up their claims.
Let's hope Lyons learned that he actually has to do some, you know, reporting, as part of his job.
BTW: I never quite understood the sentiment that if someone says that a place has some good points over the USA, they're somehow not worthy of being an American. Having a citizenry that acknowledges its country's faults makes that country a better and stronger place, since they talk about the faults and strive to correct them. Blind acceptance serves no one.
It's called jingoism. It's a form of stupidity which is exacerbated by a lack of education and frequently exploited for cynical political ends. And, it is by no means exclusive to the US or its citizens.
No, I do understand - blood alcohol levels are for what an average person's impairment is like at a given alcohol concentration.
But, as I stated, I'm not a danger at 0.08. I drink a lot, I have a high tolerance for alcohol, and I'm a generally good driver, sober or not. Drugs affect people differently. I don't lose my coordination with alcohol until I'm rather drunk, but I get a loose tongue fairly quickly. You may be different.
But what's the difference? I won't convince you, and you will most assuredly not convince me. The only thing that's left is for you shut the fuck up and eat a dick. So off with you, and have at that, and try not to choke too loudly.
Yeah, but the Bible's mostly just a bunch of self-contradictory bullshit anyway.
It's not perfect, it's not infallible, and it's not inerrant. It's been repeatedly translated and transcribed, and countless alterations and errors have crept in over the years. And then there's the councils that have been held to decide what gets included in cannon and what doesn't.
That's not the word of God, buddy, that's a document that's been warped and altered whenever politically necessary, over thousands of years.

I mean, holy shit, that's possibly the stupidest thing I ever heard.

I'd be nice to eliminate the source of the problem, rather than have to litigate over the after-effects.
A person with poor reading comprehension skills blames the text.
I suppose I can say that woman is a terrorist and an enemy of the United States, and should be thrown into Gitmo forever.
Making a supposition, however, isn't the same thing as proving one, nor does it constitute a good prima face argument in its favor.
You need to start taking yourself a little less seriously.
Why not make stew out of you and your family? Y'all are significantly less rare and important in genetic diversity terms.
If nothing else, the gorillas are classier than you are.
Will it last as long as a standard hard drive?

Which still doesn't fix the issue syncing with any Linux app.

Or make up your own. At least they'll have to work for it.
Seriously, though. People that go for this are dumbshits.

Yeah, but then you have to use Perl, and then you're just an asshole.
Eh. You eat penis.
No, really, who fucking cares? Is there nothing better to post as a story, anywhere on the intarweb?
Will you take remedial spelling lessons?
