Then I imagine the speeding fines imposed for trying to cover 2200 odd miles in a day will probably negate the prize fund for the winners and put everyone into serious debt for at least a year. Maybe this is why its a biannual event

  7. I know this is not popular round here on Evangelizing OSS in the Caribbean · · Score: 4, Insightful

Not only that, OpenOffice and other Open Source programs can be customized and modified at will -- by local programmers instead of by companies overseas

But one of the reasons MS is achieved so much success is because they made their stuff very easy to extend a long time ago, witness the gazillions of VB coders out there who use MS components in their apps, for example its a doddle to stick another button on to IE and code whatever you want behind it in C++ or VB taking advantage of almost all MS office functionality/disfunctionality depending on your point of view. Jesus the number of people I have seen working in major corps who depend on their self built spreadsheets to get anything done alone defies belief.

I always find this a very disingenuous argument for OSS as it implies MS software cannot be customized when it obviously can. Yes you dont have the source code but the occasions where the OS source is required are few and far between for application developers.

should some of this information be classified?

whats really needed is a campus along the lines of Camp X-Ray to deal with this sort of thing. This way the Govt can controll what the studenets research and who can distribute this information to. The new open wire cage format for the dorms will have the added avantage they it will be easy to immediately identify students sharing files illegally thus saving the RIAA money to track them down

God knows both these countries could spent the money elsewhere and while a moonbase is a nice idea, how much use is it really?

Secondly, and this is not a troll if Iraq was invaded because they posed an 'imminent threat' how do people think the US will view asian nuclear powers developing more sophisticated ballistic technology capable of delivering nuclear playloads to the US.
