And, let's face it... even though it's perfectly legal to file a Freedom of Information Act request, doing so for topics like this totally out of the blue is certainly suspicious activity.
So basically what your saying is, regardless of what you may actually plan on doing with that information, you should automatically be considered suspicious and investigated? Its like assuming that someone is guilty of being a terrorist until proven otherwise. That's bullshit.
God forbid someone actually USE the freedom of information act!
This will be an excellent addition to the O'Reilly books on Perl I already have.
The whole love or hate thing in the article intrigues me I might add. I love both MySQL and Perl. Why? Well, you can't beat MySQL for its cheapness facor. Let's face it, most people don't need some professional job, myself included. And as far as Perl goes, well, anyone who's used it significantly can understand how great it is for practical answers on the fly.
I agree. We call this market capitalism. If you don't like something, then you don't have to use it. No one is forcing you to use a service like GMail, and I'm sure there will plenty of comprobable others of similar magnitude which better address your "security" needs.
If that is to say GMail doesn't meet your needs; which, I'm willing to assume in the majority of cases, it certainly will.
Or you could do what two of my good buddies did in high school a couple of years ago. They were in a robot competition (much akin to Battlebots, but smaller.) Somehow (I wasn't part of the building process, but I did see the final product,) they mounted a hard drive platter and used it as a type of spinning buzz-saw weapon. While I was not lucky enough to see it in action, I heard it was very successful in the early rounds but broke at some point.
Incidentally, another funny idea we once had was, we were just sitting around playing with a 1.25 floppy drive, popping a disk in and out. Somehow this lead us to replace the ejection springs so that when you popped out a disk it would fly out at a pretty good clip. Disk wars became the game of the day.
Of course you already knew this, but being an Intel fanboy simple choose ignorance over being informed.
You're right, they do. But the AMD head-stigma lives on in my heart. Give me a break with all the fanboyism crap. I have two PCs; one is p4 and the other is Athlon XP. It was just a joke.
I was always a bit disappointed in the Fahrenheit 451 movie. I mean, the book is one of my favorites of all time, but I just don't think it did it justice. Same with Catch-22. I mean, they were good movies, but not the calibur of the books.
I think a Fahrenheit 451 remake has a lot of potential too, with all the modern camera and computer technology today, they could really recreat the world of Guy Montag to such a degree. (And perhaps show all the parallels between it and our own which is ever growing closer IMO.)
Everyday on my drive to class, I see so many idiots riding other car's asses, and its disturbing. (Especially considering the high number that I recognize as fellow students on their way to class.)
People just don't seem to grasp the laws of physics: the closer you are, the less time you have to slow down. And if they slam on their brakes and you don't at pretty much the same exact second, you're going to be at fault (best case scenario.)
The scariest thing is the semi-trucks that tailgate. That should be a felony. The person in front of you is as good as dead if they need to come to a sudden stop.
Speeding is a habit, and another related habit is that of running red lights quickly after a yellow (ie, its yellow when they see it, so it MUST be yellow when they go through it.) I've seen quite a few near misses because of people burning through a sudden red becuase they'd rather not have to slow down.
This will probably just be labelled as flamebait or trolling, but whatever.
The fact of the matter is, outsourcing is the end result of the bloated salaries of programmers and designers in the US (among others.) The fact that they can make it for HALF as much in St. Petersburg just goes to show the problem. If someone is willing to do the same job, just as well, for half the price, why would a company NOT do so?
People bitch about this, and that's fine. But at the same time, those people claim to be for free-market economy. But of course, only when it supports THEIR cause.

Apparently the apple has been mistakenly assigned to Microsoft.
This is clearly a Microsoft plot to install their propreitary software on produce world wide.
You mean, they're changing the name of the porn giveaway? Those bastards.

Ooooohhhh...
What kind of bandwidth can you get on the WiFi, measured by Libraries of Congress?
First correct reply gets a cookie.

Humor is a lost art.
Perhaps this explains why my head gets extremely hot when I do my Calculus exams.
I don't know why the accurate post is at 1 and the inaccurate post is at +5 Informative, but hey :)
This is slashdot, if you SOUND informed, you MUST be.
Thought I recognized it. I wasn't sure if I was losing my mind or if it was just getting a bit too late. (4:30am here, lol.)
Either I'm suffering deja vu, or this has been posted nearly verbatim before in a previous discussion of Java vs. C.
Astounding.

All I've got to say is, Amen brother.

Probably due to martian cows.
Probably due to Terrestrian cows taken by the Martians and hidden in their underground caves, where they plan to destroy mankind.
At least, that's what I read in the Enquirer.

I'm unfamiliar with this unit of measurement.

Such is life, I suppose.
Moderate this! *finger*
I just told someone at work about this, and he said ".sex? What would that be for...porn sites?"

Yeah, I think pretty much anyone who reads slashdot probably heard about it.
And this.
And probably a few more links I could karma whore with.
That's one of the reasons I like the open-source market. There is no de facto, its pragmatic.
At least, in theory.
Yes, my high school has one IP over the entire network as far as I know.
That's not the only low lifeforms they support.

I'm fairly certain the computers at my school have some kind of fester troll problem. Especially considering our school's IP has been banned from

Too bad I couldn't do that to AOL back in the day.
