  2. The real question ... on New DOOM III Shots · · Score: 4, Insightful

I haven't a terrible amount of innovation from first person shooters in the last few years (Other than graphics). Hopefully Doom 3 won't just be one of those "but it looks cooler" games. I'm counting on some innovative gameplay, not just the best graphics I've ever seen.

  4. Cause and Effect on Is Today's IT an Undervalued Asset? · · Score: 2, Insightful

This is the outcome of the insane IT boom of the 90's. I see many companies that purchased false promises and have nothing to show for it now. The company I work for has boxes full of software from various vendors. Most of which doesn't do what it claims, or does it so poorly its not worth running.

I don't think the attitude we're seeing the the death of IT, rather the maturing of it. There is now a need to justify purchases. The "we need it cause it's cool" attitude is long gone. People now look at a product and say, how will this help me.

Innovation hasn't slowed down, false promises are no longer considered innovation. I can envision the next few years to be some of the most innovative we've seen in quite a while. The smoke is cleared and the mirrors are gone, tis time to do real work.

  5. Might this have something to do with Nintendo on PowerPC Goes 64 bit · · Score: 3, Interesting

If I recall correctly, when Nintendo had IBM create the processor for the gamecube, IBM retained the rights to fiddle the their specialized PPC chip, then resell it. I'm wondering if the vector instructions are spillover from the Gamecube chip (I know it does a lot of fast vector math).

Here's the real question now. MS is releasing the source to some of their API's. According to their GPL bashing, using GPL code in your project is bad because RMS will sneak into your company late one night and steal your code.

Using this reasoning, MS is going to allow free access to the source of their API's so anyone can create 'quality' software and not have to worry about Bill having his goons break in on Friday afternoon and wisk the CTO away to an undisclosed locked room.

    I don't think so either.

Shut up, seriously. Who cares if Slashdot censors. From the look of your post they're not doing a very good job.

It doesn't matter, read your news somewhere else. The posts to Slashdot are opinions, if someone doesn't like them, that's their right. If the maintainers of this service don't like them, who are we to say they can't remove them (which I still don't think they do, better yet, who really cares).

Your dealing with a service that acts as a place people can share some of their feelings. None of it matters man. Go outside, look at the sun, quickly close your eyes from the pain and put on a healthy coat of SPF 300 sunblock. Maybe you could meet some people with similar non Slashdot interests, even do stuff with them...

I don't care if Malda prints off the comments and rolls naked in them at night, it doesn't matter. Maybe a more constructive use of your time would be to create a site called slashdotcensorslonglivegoatse.cx

    Just a thought.

I would recomend going to College for one basic reason, clout. I work with an MCSE right now. Before I arrived he held that certification over everyones head to get his way. He tried it on me and I politely told him his certification was shit compared to my degree (Which I think all certifications and degrees are pretty worthless, experience is the key). Needless to say the boss also saw it my way. Besides, what better time to spend 4 or 5 solid years drunk.

  17. More Importantly on Microsoft Urged Linux Retaliation · · Score: 1

We keep seeing memos like this, but they mean nothing. All they show us is that MS has to keep cleaning out its pants every few weeks. At this point in the ballgame we need to stop jumping on the table and beating our chests. Linux cannot fail (that's the part most people don't get). Patience is what the Linux community needs more than anything. Linux is like a confused youth and the people in the community get to guide it around. Someday that job will go to others, but for now we need to enjoy it while we still can.
