Gotcha. I understand more now what the story and article means about the theme song to the release.
I still don't think my comment should be sitting at -1 Flaimbait (I'll probably get modded to flaimbait for saying it in a reply under my original post, too), but my original comment didn't come out with the tone and inflection it was supposted to of. I have karma to burn though, I guess.:-P
I must've missed the memo about projects having a theme song. I'm both repulsed and intrigued by this story, both the content and the fact that it is deemed news-worthy enough to make it onto Slashdot.
So, if someone buys a computer from Dell/HP/IBM/Gateway/etc. that comes with pre-installed burning software, they can't play? I can see the protests now. The Sims might have been the best selling game ever, but with stupid copy protection B.S. like this, The Sims 2 will be lucky if it is the bestseller of the year.

We need to destroy these creatures before they evolve into something that can take over the human race! With only a 2 month lifespan, they could easily out-evolve us within our children's lifetimes!
Has anyone heard of an effort to get Linux running on any of the iRiver series of MP3 players? I know they don't have as large of a hard drive (mine has 256 for storage, but they go up to 1GB I believe), but their firmware is just plain crappy. It might be interesting to see support for the FM Radio Tuner on it, too.
My brother and I are in adjacent rooms down the same hallway. His computer is 1 wall and 15 feet away. If we even speak a little louder than usual, we can hear each other without any problems. This is why when he sends me an IM I call him a lazy bastard and tell him to come to my room if he has something to say. Every time. Without fail.
Both my girlfriend and I are poor, starving college students. I'm C.S. Major who switches between Windows and Red Hat on a pretty constant basis, so I use OpenOffice.org to avoid conflicts in file types (like using Office XP) for projects/papers/assignments. She, on the other hand, doesn't even have Office 97 and is very involved with clubs and groups, as well as taking 18 credits this semester. I gave her a copy of OpenOffice.org v.1.1 (I think it was rc3) about a month ago, and WHAM! She's hooked. She absolutely loves it, and it runs beautifly on her older machine (PII-233, 96MB Ram, Win98). She's given the CD I made for her with the install stuff to her friends with similar needs, and no complaints have made their way back to me (yet). OOo really is awesomeness! ^^
For Computer-related majors, I'd have a laptop forso you can work on your assignments in class or between classes.
For computer, math, engineering, and sciences majors, have atleast a TI-83. 83s are good for Statistics, 86s are good for Calculus and Games (;-D ) and 89s/92s are good for everything, but might not be allowed on some tests because of exactly how much they do.
Music and art majors (minus computer graphics, ofcourse), dun worry about it.:P
Your standards are too high. How are you every going to find a nice, young DVD player if you don't open up your mind a little?

consoleclassix.com/ has a free service for NES games and a pay service ont he way for SNES games. Basically, they own cartrages of all of the roms they have availible to play, and limit how many people can play a game at once to how many carts. they actually own. Pretty spiffy and legal way to play some of the classics.:)
You miss the point, I'm a CS Major, not the average user, and need to learn the terminal. By using such windows-like GUI, I think it's hindering how fast I'll progress through learning the terminal.
For other people, ofcourse a GUI like windows is going to be a good selling point if you're going for the desktop-esque visual that everyone is familiar with, I don't disagree with you there at all.

This is where the "Did I miss the memo?" part comes in. :) I guess I haven't been paying attention to it. /Was ignorant to it, isn't anymore.

Now if only we could get the Duke Nukem Forever developers to get on the bandwagon it could be out by summer!

...do you think we could /. the /. server?
"Behold! The most ultimate XBox in the whole world..."
If by ultimate you mean large and cumbersome, then yes: you have a valid arguement.
Do I accept cellphone payments? Hell no! $15 for a 40 minute call is absurd!
...errr, wait. Different kind of cellphone payments. My bad.

Would a pr0n spam message make a rap that sounds like most pr0n music?

Low humidity, eh? For once there's actually a good reason to live in Nevada. ^^
